Breeders director Tim Kincaid AKA Joe Cage is the Grabby Award-nominee for Men’s Room: Bakerfield Station. The film stars Lance Lewman (Riot On 42nd Street), Teresa Farley (Bad Girls Dormitory) with co-stars Frances Raines (Disconnected) and Natalie O’Connell (Bad Girls Dormitory). The film was given a limited release theatrically in the United States by Empire Pictures in May 1986. Naturally, the film was panned across the board by those who saw it, citing it for reasons that it can be enjoyed now in an unintentionally entertaining and whacky fashion. It was subsequently released on VHS by Wizard Video. The film was officially released on DVD by MGM in 2001. Now, the folks over at Olive Films have carried this one over to Blu-ray, making its legacy leap forward to another format. Continue reading ‘Breeders (Blu-ray Review)’

Mirroring its subject, the documentary Original Copy takes its time to show the attention that Sheikh Rehman puts into crafting hand-painted movie banners for a small theater in Mumbai, India. With this careful examination, the viewer is treated to not only a look at one man’s passion for his nearly obsolete craft, but also a reminder of the enchanting power that film can have on people. While it takes a little while to get going and perhaps spends a little too much time on the ancillary figures, the ending of Original Copy more than makes up for any slow spots with a jaw-opening and heart-wrenching final few minutes. Watching the first 99% of Second Coming is a somewhat pleasant experience. The cinematography is beautiful, with some excellent, tense long takes and a tight, cramped focus in a small apartment that accentuates the intensity of the lives of the three main characters. The performances are strong and full of passion or subtle and full of nuance whenever appropriate. And the viewer is moving along, thinking that this will be a pretty solid drama with just a few lulls and some issues with the main character’s meekness, but still worth it for Idris Elba. Then, in the last 15 seconds of the film, the entire experience is destroyed. The final shot of Second Coming is so infuriatingly unnecessary and poorly set up, that when it shifts the meaning of the entirety of the film before it, one cannot help but wonder if the filmmakers had no idea what they were doing. A film that could have been about something immediately loses its topic. A film that may have been trying to say something immediately loses its voice. Continue reading ‘MVFF Review: Second Coming’

Based on the short story by Stephen King (The Shining),Sometimes They Come Back, stars Tim Matheson (Animal House). Matheson (two-time Primetime Emmy-nominee for Best Guest Appearance in TV’s The West Wing) gives what Entertainment Weekly called a “truly moving” performance in the “well-acted and skillfully produced”Stephen King’s Sometimes They Come Back. Director Tom McLoughlin’s chilling Stephen King’s Sometimes They Come Back is adapted for the screen by Lawrence Konnor and Mark Rosenthal (Planet of the Apesco-writers) and co-stars Robert Rustler (Thrashin’), William Sanderson (Blade Runner) and Nicholas Sadler (Scent of A Woman). This film would actually go on to spawn its own franchise of films with clever takes on the title. They were all straight to video, but there were multiple nonetheless. Well, Eli Manning and Sam Bradford are making halftime adjustments, but I’d like to think both rushed through the tunnel and asked someone to get the halftime show on because something more important than the game they were playing was happening! YES! Our newest look at The Force Awakens is upon us! Hopefully this trailer can make your Fandango woes go away for a short time. Or maybe it made them worse, I dunno. That crash is just INSANE, if you ask me. The hype for the film and Star Wars fandom is soooo HUGE right now. We at Why So Blu are excited to bring you this last (Hopefully, I’m actually a fan of the “mystery box” with this movie.) trailer for the film. Will this be the Star Wars film we’ve all been waiting for? Is the hype bigger, less or similar to The Phantom Menace back in the late 90s? It feels massive, but I think time has made us forget just how excited we were waiting on a film that delivered us pod racing, Jar Jar Binks, Yippee, confusing politics and performances made of sycamores. Maybe I’m a blind optimist, but I just feel like this one is going to deliver. Its in my gut. But, I’m not as hard on Star Wars shortcomings as others (I feel my childhood virginity is still intact). For now, we have this hype, we have this new hope and we have this new trailer! Good luck with your ticket purchases! In 1992, Marvel Comics was the #1 publisher of comic books in the world, largely due to its dynamic artwork. At the height of this popularity, in response to what they believed to be years of mistreatment toward creative talent, a small – but influential – group of artists left Marvel Comics to form their own company, Image Comics. Led by the outspoken Todd McFarlane (Spawn), this group kicked off a revolution that not only changed the comic industry forever, but has had an indelible influence on mainstream pop culture that continues to this day. But with great power came great turmoil, as Rob Liefeld (Deadpool), Jim Lee (X-Men), Marc Silvestri (Wolverine), Erik Larsen (Savage Dragon), Whilce Portacio (X-Factor) and Jim Valentino (Guardians Of The Galaxy) almost immediately began to unravel the very bond that united them.
