This is amazing! From the wonderful world of enjoyably trashy horror cinema comes the Ghoulies movies! They also introduced us to the lovely Mariska Hargitay. There was a trilogy of them, but Scream Factory is giving us a double feature release of the first two on Blu-ray. You hear that James Cameron? We are getting GHOULIES on Blu-ray before True Lies or The Abyss. Silly right? But, I’m pretty excited to go back and revisit these films. These were during the times when everyone was trying to grab at that Gremlins fortune with the likes of stuff like Critters and the like. Make no mistake about it. I wanted to see Foxcatcher for one main reason. Never mind all the Academy Awards nominations it got. We’ll talk about those in a minute. I wanted to see it because for the first time ever that man I saw in the film’s trailer was not Steve Carell, but someone possessed, almost evil looking. I wanted to find out who this man was. I could care less about wrestling. I needed to find out how the heck Carell looked so sinister, the why and most importantly, did he pull it off. Considering he got nominated for the Best Actor this year, I think the consensus is in that he did, but nonetheless I had to see Foxcatcher with my own eyes. And now that I did, here’s my full Blu-ray review to tell you all about my HD experience. So lace up your wrestling shoes ladies and gentlemen. Ding! Ding! That’s the bell! Kiss Me Kate — Cole Porter’s 1953 hit musical filmed with the most advanced 3D technology during the medium’s “golden era” – will be released in a newly restored Blu-ray edition by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Viewers will now be able to experience the classic starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and Ann Miller exactly the way it was seen in its 3D release in theatres 62 years ago. Kiss Me Kate will be part of WBHE’s Blu-ray Musicals Collection, which will also contain a 2D version of Kiss Me Kate, and Singin’ in the Rain, along with The Band Wagon and Calamity Jane, both making their Blu-ray debuts. Leave it to director David Cronenberg (The Fly, A History of Violence) to spend decades making studio films outside of Hollywood, only to finally shoot a film in Hollywood that looks to take it down. Of course, it would help if this acerbic, satirical take on Hollywood culture was a little more attuned to the world of today, but that does not mean it isn’t fun. Maps to the Stars is an entertaining drama that follows a few privileged individuals, as they deal with the culture they have thrived in, with lots of setup for disastrous results. There is not a whole lot to take from the punches supposedly taken from the skewering of said culture, but there is enough in the way of the performances and odd touches that made it worthwhile in a weird, Cronenbergian kind of way.

Scream Factory have proven to be the experts when it comes to the works of Vincent Price. In the last two years, they’ve release two super freaking awesome boxed sets. Now comes a standalone release which is a bit of a surprise. I sort of worry about a third box set this coming October as Kino Lorber has been announcing a flurry of Price titles as of late (Leave Scream Factory alone, you! We want more Price Collections!).
