In the tradition of heart-warming films, such as Bambi and Dumbo, comes Disney’s classic tales that taught us the power of friendship in The Fox and the Hound and The Fox and the Hound II, in this special 30th Anniversary 2-Movie Collection. For the first time ever in high-definition, audiences can now experience the brilliant, humor-filled adventures of best friends Copper and Tod in an all-new digitally restored version of the original 1981 film with this new Blu-ray. The Fox and The Hound, Disney’s 24th animated feature released in 1981, marked a changing of the guard from the legendary nine old men to a new generation of animators including Ron Clements, Glen Keane, and John Musker, who would kick off Disney animation’s renaissance that started in the 1980’s with new landmark animated films such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and later Aladdin. Much like many horror movie franchises that carry on to have a ridiculous number of sequels, the Final Destination series seemed to have passed the point of parody at this point; or at least so I thought. While I have been indifferent to the series that I refer to as Death’s Mouse Trap, as it tries its hardest to fit into the world of Rube Goldberg, I have to admit that I was surprised as to how much I appreciated this fourth sequel in the series. While still over the top in how elaborate the deaths in the film are presented, the film actually handles its tone with a level of seriousness that I could get behind, while reveling in some of its dark humor. Maybe I should have been eating pizza while watching the movie. For a breezy “action-comedy” that only lasts 83 minutes, I really don’t think there should have been as much down time as there was. 30 Minutes or Less has the kind of high concept premise that seemed good for a fun flick. It is a simple enough story and has enough talent within the cast to have made for a solid summer comedy. Unfortunately, the film is kind of all over the place in terms of its tone and the performances. There are some very funny parts and there are also some exciting parts, but unfortunately, there are also slow parts and weak parts. In a summer that has had a lot of solid R-rated comedies, 30 Minutes or Less lands in a decidedly “meh” sort of realm, as it is quite late in its delivery. Kenny Powers, the washed up former Major League pitcher, is back with more of his self-destructive behavior and penchant for profanity in Eastbound & Down: The Complete Second Season. When Beavis and Butt-Head first appeared on MTV in 1993, critics railed against the idiocy of two idle teens who did little more than watch TV and make snide comments. Featuring creator Mike Judge’s 20 all-time favorite cartoons, this must-own collection is chock full of outrageously dumb-ass entertainment, plus bonus material that doesn’t suck including the “Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head” featurette; “Frog Baseball”, the original, uncut short that started it all; and scenes from the all-new season of Beavis and Butt-Head debuting on MTV in the fall. Mars Needs Moms arrived at my door and I was thrilled to see a computer animated movie that my son and I could enjoy together. It’s hard for me to wait until he goes to bed at night to watch movies and the movies him and I watch together get old quickly. I put in the Blu-ray disc and after seeing the Disney logo my son is insistent that he wants to get in the car and go to Disneyland and then, based on the previews, all he wants to watch is The Lion King. After retrieving the remote and skipping the rest of previews I have my son calmed down and focused on Mars Needs Moms and we’re ready to begin. Mars Needs Moms is the story from Disney and Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis of a young boy’s intergalactic adventure to find his Martian-nabbed mother which came as kind of a surprise until I realized that this wasn’t a G-rated movie like I thought it was. While everyone was going to the theaters to see Cowboys & Aliens the last week of July another movie was released on DVD called: The Dead and the Damned the original title was Cowboys & Zombies but was changed because it was being released the same week as Cowboys & Aliens. I found out about this movie while I was at Comic Con this year. I had the pleasure of meeting Rick Mora after the Breaking Dawn panel. Rick played a Native Werewolf Tribe #1 – in the flashback sequence of Twilight in 2008. As we spoke he told me about 2 of his projects that he was excited about, the above captioned movie and another called Yellow Rock which will be released later this year. I promised him I would do a review for the movie, and who doesn’t love a good zombie movie? The Dead and the Damned was written and directed by Rene Perez. It’s not every day that the stars perfectly align and A), you meet a writer/director/actor from Ohio, B), you get to interview a writer/director/actor that you have mad respect for and C), you get to attend a film’s red carpet premiere with that said writer/director/actor. Did I lose you yet? I know that was a lot of variables I just threw at you in the very first sentence of this review, but I’m pretty confident that you can handle it. However, just in case you cannot, I’ll dispense with my vague poignancy and lift off the proverbial cloak of disguise. You can thank me later. In the meantime, we are gathered here today to chat about writer/director/actor Marcus Dean Fuller and his feature film, the very touching, sincerely warm hearted and emotionally moving, One Fall. So like most things in my life, events happen and transpire unexpectedly and generally for a reason…at least I tend to always cling on to that hope they do. Such was the occasion when not only did I get to attend the premiere screening of Chillerama at Comic-Con with one of my favorite directors, Adam Green (listen to my full interview with him here), but also got to meet and converse with directors Tim Sullivan, Adam Rifkin and Joe Lynch, as well as the fabulous ensemble cast that was on hand to meet and greet fans and press alike. Among such talent was an actor named Anton Troy. Along with my San Diego DJ friend, Lauren Winston, we got the exciting opportunity to attend the film’s after party at an upscale nightclub called Stingaree. We ended up enjoying a beautiful evening with the cast and crew of “I Was a Teenage Werebear,” the second segment in the horror/comedy anthology Chillerama (see the full review here). Bellflower is certainly one of the more unique and original films that I had the chance to see this year. As I described in my review (found HERE), the film is about two guys, a girl, and flamethrowers. Medusa, a muscle car equipped with flamethrowers is a major symbol of the film, but it is also a relationship drama of sorts, as writer/director/star Evan Glodell’s character deals with the journey of tormented love, mixed with some surreal imagery that channels the apocalyptic stakes that this film throws at the viewer. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview the entire cast of the film, which is what will follow below. Continue reading ‘Interview With The Cast Of ‘Bellflower’’

Be Cool stars an unbelievable all-star cast, including John Travolta, Vince Vaughn, Uma Thurman, The Rock, André 3000, Steven Tyler, James Woods, and Danny DeVito. This is a hilarious tale about a mob enforcer who became a movie producer before deciding to become a music mogul and discovering what it takes to be number one with a bullet. When Chili Palmer (Travolta) decides to try his hand in the music industry, he romances the sultry widow (Thurman) of a recently whacked music exec, poaches a hot young singer (Christina Milian) from a rival label, and discovers that the record industry is even more dangerous and treacherous than Hollywood!

The true story of Norway’s biggest traitor gets a hilarious and thrilling reimagining in the no-holds-barred NORWEGIAN NINJA. Created by the producers of the Norwegian cult hit Dead Snow, about Nazi zombies, the movie will thrill both ninja action fans and (alternative) history buffs when Dark Sky Films releases it on DVD, via MPI Media Group, on August 30, 2011. The disc has an SRP of $24.98. In 1984, high-ranking Norwegian diplomat Arne Treholt was tried and convicted of acting as a spy on behalf of the Soviet Union. But what if the courts got it wrong? What if the case against him was a sham? What if – dare we consider – Treholt was not a spy at all but a patriot of the highest order and the leader of a secret ninja force created by King Olav? A ninja force locked in a secret battle against all who would challenge Norwegian sovereignty? Continue reading ‘‘Norwegian Ninja’ comes to DVD on August 30th’

They say that things always happen for a reason in life, right? Well I got to tell you, I have had some pretty remarkable events occur in my lifetime and everyone of them seemed to have had a purpose/higher calling in serving as a stepping stone to further my career. And all of them were a result of a certain catalyst or coincidental stimulus in life that I was unaware would happen. So yeah, I truly believe things happen for a reason in my life…especially the good ones…and this past Thursday afternoon was no exception to that rule. It was a day that I will always remember in my budding movie career. It’s the day that I had the pleasure and honor to interview, what may have been one of the most influential, candid and down-to-earth people I have ever met in the industry, writer/director/actor Mr. Marcus Dean Fuller.
