Gemma More! Give me more Gemma Arterton that is. I know that’s a pretty lame attempt at humor, but it works for me. Gerard is probably rolling his eyes right now reading this. Ha ha. My exploitation of Gemma Arterton continues with the upcoming Disney release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The film hits theaters everywhere on May 28th. I was generous enough to devote my time today to scouring the web and sharing with you the very best Gemma images I could find from her upcoming performance as Tamina. Continue reading ‘Gemma More! My girl is back! That’s right! The sexy hip-shakin’ Colombian superstar Shakira is back this May with a brand new track and this #1 fan here in Cleveland (please come here Shaki…please come to C-town on your tour) could not be happier about the news. Much like she did years ago with her World Cup remix of “Hips Don’t Lie,” Shakira is back again in support of FIFA’s 2010 World Cup. The song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” will be released to digital retailers the week of May 11th with a music video to follow shortly. Here’s a flick I remember with fondness from my 1980’s childhood. I remember like it was only yesterday when G.I. Joe: The Movie made its debut on television. I remember checking to see if I had the right television channel on because during a battle sequence Duke got shot and there was actually blood. WTF! There was never blood in G.I. Joe, not to mention anybody ever getting hit by a laser or stray bullet before. And who can forget about Cobra Commander’s horrific demise? Continue reading ‘‘G.I. Joe: The Movie’ Declares War on Blu-ray’

As MMA (mixed martial arts) matches seem to dot the fighting landscape at every turn, there is no denying the boxing will forever remain the classic fighting favorite among fans. There is a certain grace, class, and strategy to boxing that separates the sport from its MMA brethren, making it much more than a caged street brawl. Talent continues to pour from every corner of the U.S. as young boxers lace up the gloves for their love of the fight and their hopes of a successful career in the ring. This is kind of old news by now, but it’s worth mentioning in my opinion. My hat goes off to James Cameron and his newest achievement in life. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that the Blu-ray edition of Avatar has sold 2.7 million units by this past Sunday. This record number of Blu-ray sales surpasses the lifetime sales of the previous top-selling Blu-ray, The Dark Knight, which took over a year to sell 2.5 million units. I was looking through the iTunes trailer page today and look what I found. I thought that beautiful face looked familiar. Leave it to me to find more news on Gemma Arterton. The beautiful vixen seems to be everywhere nowadays and I’m not complaining. Are you? In addition to her upcoming Prince of Persia role Gemma will be starring in the British thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed this August. I can’t wait! Continue reading ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed (More Gemma!)’

From the moment I saw the trailer back in January, I was instantly convinced that The Losers was going to be a fun-filled action flick with moments of over-the-top action, a little naughty Saldaña, and a whole lot of happy triggers. Now it’s three months later and opening weekend for the film and as for all those assumptions I made back in January, they were pleasingly true. Continue reading ‘The Losers Come Out Ahead’

Our love and admiration for Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures is no secret here on Why So Blu (see our other stories here, here and here). After all, any friend of Rob Zombie is a friend of ours. Last week, we broke a very exciting and insightful interview here on the site with Captain Clegg’s go go dancer Mistress Clegg (see here). So why would we depart from the Clegg train now? The answer is we WON’T. Continue reading ‘Adventures of Captain Clegg & The Night Creatures’

Don’t let the movie’s name deceive you. If you are looking for a wild romping good time this weekend with no brain power required, then look no further than your local cinema to check out Dark Castle’s adaptation of the Vertigo and DC Comics comic book series of the same name, The Losers. The film features very improbable and intense action sequences, frequent comedic relief moments, the sensuality of the beautiful Zoe Saldana and a very funny villain. Continue reading ‘The Losers are Really Winners IMO’

District 13: Ultimatum is the sequel to the French film District B13. I’d wager they dropped the “B” from this film, because of that “other” film involving aliens in South Africa. In my opinion, District B13 was the first film to truly bring the urban Parkour style to the main stream. Who do we have to thank for all of this? None other than the hardest-working man in France: Luc Besson. Luc wrote and produced it. He did that with the first one as well. Continue reading ‘Disctrict 13: Ultimatum (Blu-ray Review)’

I’m sorry. I could not help myself. Ever since I saw Clash of the Titans, the only actress I have had on my mind is Gemma Arterton. I probably don’t even have to tell you why, but just in case, check out her photo below. She’s the only reason why I want to see The Prince of Persia. Sony Pictures Classics has chosen Facebook to debut Gemma’s first image as the title character in the upcoming romantic comedy Tamara Drewe. I’m not much of a reader. I probably only read about one piece of fiction during any given calendar year. I know. It’s sad, especially coming from a guy who calls himself a writer. It’s not that I hate reading, but I’m usually too busy juggling so many projects and efforts that I simply don’t have the time to commit to a full blown epic-sized novel. However, that all changed the minute I heard about Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Continue reading ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Review)’

The 1980’s were definitely a memorable time. After all, that was my childhood. While I may not have grasped the full meaning of films like The Breakfast Club or Fast Times at Ridgemont High when they came out in theaters, I was definitely onboard with others such as Gremlins and Ghostbusters. These films may not have been Oscar-worthy, but they all staked their claim in the hearts and minds of an entire generation and their success at the box office didn’t hurt either. This one was announced a few days back, but I wanted to get this out for all the Depp fans out there. While I did not get a chance to catch Alice in Wonderland theatrically two of our reviewers did. You can see their reviews here and here. So without further ado I wanted to let you all know that Disney has announced a June 1st release date for the Blu-ray debut of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Oni. Rakshasa. Yautjas. The highly intelligent alien race that has been visiting our planet for eons is known best as the Predator. Ever since their film debut alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987, the space-travelling bipeds have achieved success in film, novels and comic books. I’ve made no secret that Dark Horse’s Predator storylines are what drew me into comic book collecting back in the early 1990’s. It was Predator: Race War that became my first exposure into the print foray of the dreaded hunters. Continue reading ‘Top 10 Predator Comics of All Time’

There hasn’t been much promotion for John Cusack’s latest work, Hot Tub Time Machine. If you are expecting an incredibly ludicrous premise for this film based on that title, then your expectations will be met. The story focuses on four guys; Adam (John Cusack), Nick (Craig Robinson), Lou (Rob Corddry), and Adam’s nephew, Jacob (Clark Duke). After Lou nearly does himself in after a night of drinking, on-again off-again friends Adam and Nick decide to take Lou to an old alpine lodge where the trio used to live up their younger days. Every once in a blue moon you come across some unlikely artistic pairing that just makes you wonder how the two ended up together. The funny thing is, these odd combinations can somehow come together and pull it off. Call it fate, call it the planets being in alignment, or just call it two different forms of talent gelling with one another. There was Nelly and Tim McGraw, Def Leppard and Taylor Swift, but how about the 1960’s flavor of go-go dancing and the smooth sound of rockabilly?
