You Were Never Really Here (Blu-ray Review)

Crafting some buzz and nabbing up some awards (Best Screenplay, Best Actor) at the Cannes Film Festival, You Were Never Really Here comes all the way to Blu-ray from Lionsgate. Lynne Ramsay’s film is fashioned as a “Taxi Driver for a new century!” with a lot of praise coming for the performance of lead actor and Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix. Unfortunately, this release is looking pretty hollow in terms of bonus features being included, so you’ll have to take it all on the movie alone. If you’re a big fan of the movie or you’re just gonna go charging in with that Blu-ray fan tradition of blind buying, you can use our Amazon link at the end of the review to pre-order yourself a copy. You Were Never Really Here will make its debut on Blu-ray July 17th. Continue reading ‘You Were Never Really Here (Blu-ray Review)’

The Endless (Blu-ray Review)

For all the praise given to horror films such as A Quiet Place and It in recent months, there have been plenty of smaller voices staking a claim on the genre as well. This month just gave us Ari Aster’s brilliant debut horror film Hereditary, but we also had another very well-reviewed horror film come out the same day as John Krasinski’s horror blockbuster. That would be The Endless, the latest film from the directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. The two have been quietly directing some interesting underground genre features, and this is their most recent dive into trippy territory on a low budget, which is now available on a solid Blu-ray disc.

‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Gives The Dinosaurs A Fighting Chance (Movie Review)

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Movie ReviewJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom…just what the world needed, eh…another Jurassic Park film?  One could say that yes Jurassic World came with little new to offer longtime fans of the franchise and left us in a very familiar fashion as well.  One could also say the only thing it really did right was left us with two bankable stars, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and one hell of a likable Velociraptor, Blue.  Regardless of how you felt about it I was still a fan of the fourth entry and I can honestly say after four viewings I still have fun with it.  And for what it’s worth you can see how I personally rank the previous four films in this franchise here in my 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray review of the collection.  So getting back to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, hell yes I was excited to see where they were going to take this one.  I purposely read no reviews prior to my first watch of this and all I knew before going in was the trailers pretty much only showed Acts 1 and 2 meaning they saved the good stuff for inside the theater…the way it should be.  Count me in.  I am all about that! Blockers (Blu-ray Review)

Winding down the spring into summer movie season, there was the big hit move, A Quiet Place, which proved to be no joke. But, making the jokes was another solid film, Blockers. While it didn’t do gangbusters, the film proved to be a pretty solid hit financially. Add to that, it was very much well liked by the critics (Which seemed to apparently come as a surprise to most). It was the second solid comedy in 2018 with good box office take and critical response (The other being Game Night). Blockers also appeared to be the first attempt at a comedy with John Cena as a leading man, having shown some chops in Trainwreck and Sisters. You’ll be able to check it out, or own the film if you liked it, on Blu-ray on July 3rd! Pre-order your copy from Amazon using the link below! Continue reading ‘Blockers (Blu-ray Review)’

Jack Reacher (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

Jack Reacher 4K ReviewI’m not sure where I’ve been since 1997, but I’ve never heard of the name Jack Reacher until I heard news of the film being developed some years ago.  Turns out Jack is quite the popular character from literary author Lee Child’s wildly “popular” series of novels.  Heck, back when I wrote my original Blu-ray review of this here in 2013 they were getting set to release the eighteenth novel in the series.  Where have I been?  So when I was asked if I wanted to see this film with a friend in December of 2012, I kindly turned down the many offers because I simply had no prior insight as to what the film was about nor did I have any interest really in spending hard earned money on something I felt unsure of.  After the film garnished some praise I guess you could say curiosity got the best of me.  I wanted to see what I have been missing out on all this time and more importantly…who is this Jack Reacher guy?  My inquiring mind wanted to know.  And now I’m here to tell you all about him once again as along with the Mission Impossible films reviewed by Brandon Peters starting here this one’s also getting the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray treatment June 26th.  It’s a Tom Cruise day fo sho!

Force Out Hate – A Star Wars Battle Beyond the Films

There will always be a debate as to who likes which Star Wars film more, why their opinion should be validated and what we all would have changed in whichever film. We all have different tastes and varying points of view on the movies. Honestly, I no longer feel the need to tell anyone why I love Attack of the Clones or Return of the Jedi. I’ve found such discussions often go nowhere, especially when someone says they dislike The Last Jedi because of porgs or the fact that Laura Dern’s Holdo character is in a gown. If that’s how you judge a film, I’d stay away from movies in general. However, as time has gone on, the criticism tossed around Star Wars content has gone outside of the realm of scenes or character actions. Rather, it has become nothing short of vile as some so called “fans” have verbally attacked anyone associated with the films on a grand scale.
