The Jungle Book (Blu-ray Review)
Disney presents the live-action epic adventure The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “Chef”) and produced by Favreau and Brigham Taylor (executive producer of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” “Tomorrowland”), “The Jungle Book” is a live-action epic adventure based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories, inspired by Disney’s classic 1967 animated film and centered on Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. This week in our continued Friday dissection of past De Palma ditties I’m heading down a controversial road with a film that even the man himself has distanced himself from – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! Destined to be one of the most discussed and disagreed with selections to date (it was after all nominated for five prestigious Razzie Awards!), my choice this week is a film I (and my movie loving father!) consider to be one of the most notable in the areas of black comedy. Though short on signature style, there’s a distinctively devious and delicious over-the-top humor that cannot be ignored. And for those who claim “it’s not like the book” remember this is a movie – a movie called…The Bonfire of the Vanities.
Oh yeah! You can almost hear the fire-breathing front man, Gene “The Demon” Simmons, scream watch this once-in-a-lifetime event on the Blu-ray format. And who am I to argue with his wisdom? I’m a nobody in regards to Mr. Simmons, but one thing you can’t question is my undying discipleship to the legendary, finally in the Rock Hall of Fame, rock band KISS. They have been like a religion in my life and my coverage of certain KISS related events 
I’m in love with my post title up above. Get it? The Legend of Tarzan “SWINGS” onto Blu-ray. LMAO. Anyway, I have some news for you here. Follow along please. The King of the Jungle returns when The Legend of Tarzan arrives onto Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD. From Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures comes the action adventure The Legend of Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgård (“Diary of a Teenage Girl,” HBO’s “True Blood”) as the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. 
While big movies seem to be scraping the bottom of the low expectations barrel this week, there’s no shortage of surprising smaller film fare. (How about that?!) “Ash vs Evil Dead,” the 10-episode half-hour STARZ Original series, is the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film The Evil Dead. The series is executive produced by Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, The Grudge), Rob Tapert (The Evil Dead, The Grudge), and Bruce Campbell (“Burn Notice,” Oz the Great and Powerful, The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness), the original filmmakers, and Craig DiGregorio who serves as executive producer and showrunner. The cast also includes Lucy Lawless as Ruby (“Parks and Recreation,” “Spartacus” franchise, “Battlestar Galactica,” “Xena: Warrior Princess”), a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks, Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar (In Time, “Raising Hope,” “Dexter,” Meet the Fockers), an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick, Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell (“Impress Me,” A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas), a moody wild child trying to outrun her past and Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher (“Sleepy Hollow,” “Girlfriends”), a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner. 
Coming to Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on October 11th from Lions Gate Entertainment, Blood Father is directed by award-winning director Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precinct 13) and written for the screen by Peter Craig (The Town) and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) from Peter Craig’s novel.
