A Dog’s Story Highlights ‘The Secret Life Of Pets’ (Movie Review)

secret life of pets thumbIt seems like a movie like this requires a reviewer to be upfront about their pet situation. I take care of a tarantula and teaching him to fetch has been tough. With that out of the way, The Secret Life of Pets is certainly a film that will tap into many things pet owners can somewhat relate to in the film’s opening moments. The rest of the movie plays like a mix of Toy Story and madcap adventures seen in old Chuck Jones cartoons. This kind of lunacy has been the general tone of films from of Illumination Entertainment and while this one is humorous, I wish there were better attempts at being clever.

Eddie The Eagle (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

Eddie the Eagle 4KI can assure you that before I opened my door to the UPS man delivering a package from Fox, I knew absolutely nothing about Eddie the Eagle other than Aaaron Neuwirth reviewed the regular Blu-ray version of it over here.  I asked several friends via text if they ever saw this film or knew anything about it.  While everyone basically said no, one did say yes and said he remembered actually watching Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards in the Olympic Games back in the late 80’s.  He’s nostalgic like that.  So that made me want to do my own research, of course via a Google search box. ‘The Legend Of Tarzan’ Fails To Swing To Great Heights (Movie Review)

tarzan thumbFor all The Legend of Tarzan has going for it, which includes big stars, big budget effects and a proven director, the resulting film is a bland misfire. Attempting to create new interest in a 100+ year old pulp hero is not a terrible idea, but this film has seemingly no ambition to do much more than supply all the basic parts needed and hope it all works. Well, with $180 million put down to launch a new franchise featuring the King of the Jungle, it’s a shame this film has nothing to offer beyond the bare minimum of story, perfunctory levels of excitement and the abs of Alexander Skarsgard.
