Terminator Genisys (Blu-ray Review)

Terminator GenisysTo say the Terminator franchise has been a troubled one these past two entries would be like saying there’s a distinctive taste difference between vanilla and chocolate ice cream.  It’s simply that apparent.  Just when you thought Terminator Salvation was going to reinvigorate the franchise, production of a fifth film went right down the toilet slapped with bankruptcy forcing the property to once again go up for sale.  The question was who’s going to buy it?  You?  Me?  Why not Annapurna Pictures with distribution help from Paramount?  And then there’s that spelling of “Genisys” in this film’s title to deal with.  Oh well!  You can’t win them all.  I suppose in the end we should all be thanking the Gods for even letting a fifth film in this troubled Terminator franchise to exist, right?  Absolutely! Southpaw (Blu-ray Review)

SouthpawSouthpaw is defined in the sport of boxing as the stance where the boxer has his right hand and right foot forward, leading with right jabs, and following with a left cross right hook.  Southpaw is the normal stance for a left-handed boxer.  Fictional boxer Rocky Balboa, for example, was a southpaw.  Therefore, I think you can pretty much conjure up that Jake Gyllenhaal’s character in Southpaw is a southpaw.  You picking up what I’m dropping here because I’m pretty much lost on what point I want to make.  So now that you know what a southpaw is I guess we can move on to talking about the 2015 sports drama film, Southpaw.  Just out of curiosity how many times did I mention my keyword in this first paragraph?  If you said seven times, have someone in the room where you’re at clap for you. Mannequin (Blu-ray Review)

Mannequin1987 was a fantastic year for movies.  Lots of great stuff came out; Robocop, Lethal Weapon and The Princess Bride all debuted in ’87.  Some other stuff came out too, the highest grossing film was Three Men & A Baby…and that’s more along the lines of where we could probably fit Mannequin into in terms of quality.  Mannequin itself was a pretty big success.  Not only did it go “over the top” of Stallone’s film that debuted the same weekend (yok yok yok), it finished out with $42 million on a mere $6 million budget.  The film also sold a good chunk of soundtrack records too.  After a delay, Mannequin is finally making its debut on Blu-ray from Olive Films.  The second one already beat it to the punch, but this is the one people were more than likely waiting for and probably didn’t want to have the delay.

Breeders (Blu-ray Review)

BreedersBreeders director Tim Kincaid AKA Joe Cage is the Grabby Award-nominee for Men’s Room: Bakerfield Station.  The film stars Lance Lewman (Riot On 42nd Street), Teresa Farley (Bad Girls Dormitory) with co-stars Frances Raines (Disconnected) and Natalie O’Connell (Bad Girls Dormitory).  The film was given a limited release theatrically in the United States by Empire Pictures in May 1986. Naturally, the film was panned across the board by those who saw it, citing it for reasons that it can be enjoyed now in an unintentionally entertaining and whacky fashion.  It was subsequently released on VHS by Wizard Video.  The film was officially released on DVD by MGM in 2001.  Now, the folks over at Olive Films have carried this one over to Blu-ray, making its legacy leap forward to another format.
