This year’s Super Bowl gave everyone there first glimpse at the fourth Transformers film from director Michael “Boom Boom” Bay. Now we have a full length trailer that provides just about everything one either loves, hates, or loves to hate about this franchise. That said, we also get a new cast to deal with as well, along with Dinobots. There are sparse details on the plot of this film, but if anyone was hoping Transformers would finally fine a way to fit in an overprotective father played by Mark Wahlberg, well they have just that to work with. Will he bond with Grimlock? I have no idea, but there will surely be lots of explosions. Continue on to get a look at the full trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction, along with the brand new Wahlberg-centric poster for the film and some others too.

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Oliver Stone’s epic historical drama Alexander, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Alexander: The Ultimate Cut Blu-ray™ on June 3. Because the film’s original 2004 theatrical release required a running time of less than 3 hours, within strictly defined codes for violence and sexuality, the director felt he was unable to achieve a vision that stretched beyond the boundaries of an ordinary film. Stone now feels that by adhering to the outline of his original script, he is finally able to bring this improved Ultimate Cut, 31 minutes longer, to home viewing audiences. Once upon a time there was a boy, who in the early nineties became infatuated with the world of martial arts. As a small, skinny and frail boy, who grew up in a culture with heroes like Chuck Norris and even Ralph Macchio in the Karate Kid films with bullies abound, he wanted nothing more than to protect himself and most importantly, be respected. His whole world changed when a meat butcher at his part time grocery store job asked him if he ever saw Bloodsport. Being the naive and gullible kid he was, constantly protected by his parents, of course the kid’s immediate answer to that question was no, what is Bloodsport? Well thankfully, Billy (R.I.P.) let him borrow his copy on VHS and history was written as the boy went onto to fight in tournaments and earn belts in Kenpo karate, kick priests in tae kwon do and flip college students in aikido, which by far was my favorite one to practice. Hours ultimately will be known more for being one of the final films of Paul Walker, the first of which to get a release in wake of his passing. It was released back in December, just weeks after his accident. However, the film had been screened at the South By Southwest Film Festival much earlier in 2013, giving itself a fair run of critical praise and reaction. The film’s material and nature lends itself to giving Walker a kind of one man show. Lionsgate will be releasing Hours this Tuesday on DVD and not Blu-ray. So if you’re wanting to physically own the film and are looking for the it on Blu-ray and passed up that DVD, turn yourself around and go back and grab the DVD because that’s seems to be what we’re getting. Lame and baffling, I know, you’d think this would easily get the Blu treatment. Continue reading ‘Hours (DVD Review)’

There are demons so terrible that no mortal man of God could successfully drive them back to Hell. The only option is for the exorci st himself to invite possession and then commit suicide, dragging along the demon to damnation – so the Augustine Interfaith Order of Hellbound Saints – or Hellbenders – was formed. A group of elite, highly-trained exorcists, they live in a constant state of debauchery so they will be ready to go to Hell at any moment. When an infernal Norse demon called Black Surtr escapes into New York City intent on cracking open the gates of Hell, the Hellbenders must use every ounce of their debauchery to battle the demon and save the planet from eternal damnation! In the late 1960s, DC Comics took to Saturday morning cartoon-style animation with their Justice League heroes. In what is referred to as the “Filmation Adventures”, the likes of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, The Flash and others were displayed for kids in a one hour format of a television program sporting many different adventures with a variety of their favorite superheroes. While the program remained relatively the same in content, its title changed seemingly almost every year when it was broadcast. Sometimes it was known as The New Adventures Of Superman and then the following year it would be The Superman/Aquaman Hour Of Adventure. If you’re of my generation, while you may have seen these before, their familiarity may come from that of a different source, which I will get into a little later. While Scream Factory likes to boast “Rate R For Retro” as a tagline, once in a while they do offer up a piece of modern horror to shake things up. This year, so far, they already have four of them slated for release, three of those leading up to summer. The first of the these 2014 modern outputs is Larry Fassenden’s Beneath. I had heard a pretty solid buzz about this one from horror circles around the web, but it didn’t play anywhere near me (it’s a very small film), so I was patiently awaiting it on the home format somehow. I kind of kept in the dark, aside from knowing it was a giant fish movie. To my pleasant surprise, Scream Factory got their paws on it and made it a part of their 2014 slate. Scream Factory and I tend to have a lot of the same tastes, so when they select a modern title for release it instantly grabs my attention and has me pretty excited to check the title out. After seeing the trailer a couple months back I will admit that I was really looking forward to this one. I mean who doesn’t like space exploration movies, right? I am a huge fan of those myself. When I found out The Last Days on Mars was on the front doorstep today I couldn’t wait to get home and watch it. My boyfriend, however, did not share my same level of excitement for the movie after he read so many negative reviews. In fact, that is to put it mildly. He was down right upset about having to sit through it, but of course he would sacrifice 90 minutes for me. So with that being said I should have known from the moment the Blu-ray jammed up our PS4 for the first time ever before we even hit play, causing him to have to reboot the whole system, that this was going to be a disaster. I guess I am not very good subtle hints, huh? However, I didn’t let that little mishap damper my spirits. As of late I have been trying to be a cup half full kinda person. Okay, lets get into it shall we? Continue reading ‘The Last Day on Mars (Blu-ray Review)’

The Nutty Professor, one of Jerry Lewis’ most celebrated comedies, will be released on Blu-ray™ by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) June 3 in a brand-new 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. Lewis directed, stars in, and co-wrote (with Bill Richmond) the parody of the classic “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” tale which was selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2004. WBHE is releasing the four-disc Collector’s Edition with personal input from Mr. Lewis, who has helped compile lots of entertaining extra content for this release. Highlights include a new featurette, Jerry Lewis: No Apologies, an intimate look at “The King of Comedy”; a 48-page book of the film’s original story boards; a 44-page book of excerpts from Jerry’s cutting script with personal notes; and a recreated “Being a Person” book, written by Jerry exclusively for the film’s crew. Adding to the offering is the very funny CD collection, Phoney Phone Calls, 1959-1972, with private prank calls secretly recorded by Lewis during those years.
