Come this March, the title of the post may need to be altered to “Best Picture Winner”, but regardless, one of the best and most important films of 2013 comes to Blu-ray on February 18th. 12 Years A Slave tells the true story of Solomon Northrup, a man kidnapped and forced into slavery in the south. This harrowing journey, based on Northrup’s actual memoir, directed with incredible precision by Steve McQueen, and featuring a tremendous cast, the film has been rightfully given heaps of praise and while it can be a tough film to watch, it is certainly one worth investing time in. Continue on to learn more about this upcoming release.

Millennium films brings you Life Of A King, the true story of Eugene Brown. A man who opened up a chess club to help troubled inner-city youths in the Washington DC area. The film boasts a cast with Cuba Gooding Jr, LisaGay Hamilton and President David Palmer himself, Dennis Haysbert. There are also some young actors that put in some good turns and maybe we’ll be seeing more of them in the future. Its directed by Jake Goldberg. The only other film he directed is a film called Don McKay. Funny as it is, that film is also about a janitor. It’s a small film that debuted at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year. The film features a man’s ability to connect to these kids using chess to open their minds and help them to become better kids, stay off the streets and plan for a better future. Here’s a title I’m excited to check out since there was no press screening in my area. All I know is from the trailers, things look intense here! I did a little reading on the background of this production and whatnot so I’m eager to see the final product on the big screen, in my living room, of course. So this morning comes news that Out of the Furnace will be getting the Blu-ray treatment on March 11th. I’m marking that date down in my calendar and so should you. Wait! No! You should pre-order this title now and check out the full press release below courtesy of Fox. Enjoy! Continue reading ‘Out of the Furnace Ignites on Blu-ray March 11th’

Originally slated for December, Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition of Sam Raimi’s Darkman finally arrives on Blu-ray. For good reason, too. They got Liam “I will find you and I will kill you” Neeson to sit down for an interview exclusive to this release. And, to be honest, this release was PACKED before they even cherry topped it with that impressive get. This may be its 2nd release on Blu-ray, but that previous release had absolutely nothing in the way of bonus materials. But, luckily for you, people who actually care have got their hands on this film and delivered enough reason to double dip or to reward those who have waited and hoped for something more substantial to get released. For its 18th DC Universe Animated Original movie, they have adapted Justice League: Origins. This feels kind of like a timely “plant the seeds for later” type release as we all know their ultimate goal is to make a live action Justice League movie. Justice League: War is the name and bringing it to life with their voices are notables Michelle Monaghan (Wonder Woman), Alan Tudyk (Superman), Sean Astin (Shazam), Justin Kirk (Green Lantern), Shemar Moore (Cyborg) and Jason O’Mara (Batman). Its one of those “non-stop thrill ride” type movies that starts with a boom and keeps on exploding throughout its runtime. It also features some cool newer takes on the heroes outfits as well. Alright, you knew this moment was coming and I cannot wait to ring the new year in officially now that we are in it with a Blu-ray screening of American Hustle! You know what I be saying? That’s right! In my world, the coveted picture of the year is going to come down to this, Gravity and unfortunately 12 Years a Slave, but thou hast no fear…it’s going to be American Hustle all the way. I’m as sure of it as I was the 2013 Denver Broncos losing by 40 points in the biggest game of the year (does that instill confidence or what?). Actually, I stand more of a chance with this prediction! Haha. So without further ado, let’s join Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in talking everything American Hustle below…and oh yeah…don’t forget to get your pre-order in! Frozen audiences were invited to join the act – literally – this past weekend as more than 2000 theaters nationwide introduced an all-new sing-a-long version of Disney’s Oscar®-nominated, Golden Globe®-winning big-screen adventure. Josh Gad, who voices the character Olaf, surprised audiences at the Sing-A-Long Screening this Sunday at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood.

I thought I would try something new here on the site with a hardware review since it’s not every day you make a simple run to Target for a baby shower gift and end up coming home some five-hundred seventeen dollars lighter with a new, hard-to-find PlayStation 4 in tow. I kind of felt the same guilty way I did when I came home with PlayStation 3 way back in 2006, except this time I didn’t buy it as an alternative for the lowest cost Blu-ray player. My oh my, a lot has changed in the past seven years. Seven years ago, I never dreamed I would be the owner and editor of one of the most established Blu-ray websites, nor that I would have all the opportunities I have been afforded because of this site. So in a way, I kind of owe my existence and accomplishments thus far in the entertainment industry to the magic of Blu-ray. If you want my honest opinion, there’s nothing better than a good old fashion revenge flick, especially with a strong female protagonist upping the ante. And the Bard once wrote: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Isn’t that the truth? LOL. Okay. I better shut my mouth before I stick my foot in it. On February 4, 2014, Anchor Bay Films will be releasing Scorned, a story guaranteed to make any man eternally faithful! Directed by Mark Jones, director and writer of the cult favorite Leprechaun series, Scorned will be available on both Blu-ray and DVD. It will also be available On Demand across select cable providers and for digital download across iTunes, Xbox and VUDU. And best of all, my favorite press person in the world gave me two Blu-ray copies to give away to 2 very lucky readers here on WSB. Read on below for more information about Scorned and how you can enter to win! Continue reading ‘Anchor Bay’s ‘Scorned’ Blu-ray Giveaway Contest!’

Here’s the last trailer I plan on posting for now. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a Super Bowl spot, but rather than post that, I went for the 4-minute extended trailer, which basically highlights that this big summer sequel is going to be all about Oscorp throwing everything they’ve got at Peter Parker. Will it work or will it be too crowded? I don’t know, but it is a new Spider-Man movie and he has a colorful rogues gallery, so it will at least be neat to see a few of them on screen, going after the web head. Continue on to check out this extended look at the upcoming film.

Continuing on with posts for all these big Super Bowl movie spots, we now have Noah, the latest from director Darren Aronofsky. I am not sure how “untold” the story of Noah may be, but Aronofsky making a biblical epic is enough for me. This teaser certainly puts plenty of emphasis on the impending doom for the world, while Russell Crowe’s Noah scrambles to protect his family, as well as, y’know, save all the animals via a giant ark. Should be something of a spectacle. Continue on to check out this mini trailer.

Not being much of a fan of all these “trailers for the trailers” that has become a “thing” these days, I was pretty happy to be looking forward to the first teaser for the new Transformers trailer of all things, during the Super Bowl, given how it didn’t resort to a “5-second look at the official spot” or any of that nonsense. Now that I have seen it, I can’t say I was disappointed. Transformers: Age of Extinction is the next stop for Michael “Boom Boom” Bay and while he has basically traded in the old cast for Mark Wahlberg and Dinobots, I cannot say I was expecting much more than what I got. This film may not win over many new fans of this big, explosion-filled franchise, but it will surely satisfy those who contribute to the colossal massive box office results, or at least give those that don’t like them, yet see the films anyway, plenty to talk about. Regardless, the spot from the big game is online now, continue to to check out the teaser.

After this trailer, I’m thinking this film looks like a lot of fun. We’re all Breaking Bad and Aaron Paul fans, so I’m sure that’s enough to get most of us to watch it. This film may fill that Fast & Furious void present this year. And if you dig car chases, this looks like one giant chase. I hear it features a lot of practical effects and tremendous stunt work. If it includes great filmmaking of said stunt work, then this could be quite the spectacle. Need For Speed hits theaters on March 14th. Zoom zoom ahead to watch the Super Bowl trailer!

Marvel Studios leveraged America’s favorite sporting event to debut the world premiere of the new full-length trailer in an unprecedented cross platform partnership with Fox and Marvel. Fox broadcaster Joe Buck introduced the special look to the Big Game spot, which directed viewers to FoxSports.com for a complete CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER takeover and the brand new full-length trailer.
