On July 30th, everyone will get a chance to see an all new DC Universe Animated Original Movie. I already had the chance to see the upcoming Superman: Unbound, which I found to be quite good (Review HERE) and frankly, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has been putting out some quality features in this department for quite some time now. Getting a chance to see a story that revolves around Flash and fellow members of the Justice League already has me excited. Here is some of the press release: The world is turned upside down as one of earth’s greatest super heroes – Flash – wakes up devoid of his super powers in the all-new Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox – the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Original Animated Movies. Produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, this all-new, PG-13 rated film arrives July 30, 2013 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-Ray, DVD. and Digital Download. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

On June 4th Escape from Planet Earth makes its Blu-ray debut. I did not catch this film in theaters and I do not believe I have actually seen a recent animated film in theaters so far this year. It is still early, of course, with Monster’s University and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (yes!) looking quite promising, but there hasn’t been a whole lot in the way of animated, family-friendly features. Not sure about this movie, but here is a press release about: This fantastic, comedy- adventure crosses all galaxies to entertain the entire family with an all-star vocal cast including Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker, William Shatner, George Lopez, Craig Robinson, Sofía Vergara, Jane Lynch, Steve Zahn, Chris Parnell, Brendan Fraser, Rob Corddry and Ricky Gervais. Read on to learn more about this film and its upcoming Blu-ray release.

To speak about Oblivion to those who have not yet seen the film and do not want to be spoiled on what is in store for them, I have to not mention the many different films and sci-fi concepts that it lifts from. A film I can mention, in comparison, would be Prometheus. It is not because the films are related from a story standpoint in any way, aside from them both being gorgeous sci-fi features, but more due to expectation versus results. While Ridley Scott returning to sci-fi, via Alien, to a loose degree, was much more exciting in concept, both Prometheus and Oblivion set up a certain level of expectation, only to both fall victim to familiar plot devices and concepts not as fresh as some may have hoped. That said, Oblivion manages to accomplish a number of things that are quite refreshing to see. It looks great (in 2D!), it is strongly acted, and it works as a standalone film, as opposed to one expecting to be a new franchise. This ‘original’ sci-fi property may not feel excitingly new, but it still delivers in many areas where it really counts.

Earlier today, Aaron Neuwirth posted the final Star Trek trailer before next month’s spectacle and if that wasn’t crowd pleasing enough, moments ago on the Why So Blu chat line we all received a text from Gerard Iribe saying he was sitting in warm poo after watching the just released trailer #3 of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, debuting in June. So naturally, when someone tells me they are sitting in warm poo I go into a state of alarm and my mind instantly wants to know why and what caused that. So I immediately checked out the trailer, and while I can’t say that I feel the same pooish way that G does, I can say this. I’ve never been more excited before in my life about a Superman flick since Superman 2 in my childhood. So rah rah! I’m ready to kneel before General Zod this June and you will be too after you check this trailer out below.

I know I am in the minority of not being as excited as many others for the new Star Trek film, Star Trek Into Darkness, but here is a post with several new posters and the latest trailer. Additionally, here is a plot synopsis: In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Continue on to see the posters and trailer.

I recently watched Blue Valentine for the first time. This was the 2010 anti-romance/drama that first brought together writer/director Derek Cianfrance and star Ryan Gosling. There was a lot of good to be found in that film, particularly from co-star Michelle Williams, but the film was not without its issues. That said, Cianfrance left a good impression of a director I was curious about seeing more from. The Place Beyond the Pines is Cianfrance’s follow-up effort to Blue Valentine, and it really feels like a fantastic accomplishment from a director who is even more confident in what he can bring to the screen. It is a film that has an ambitious story to tell and it does so with enough confidence to unfold slowly, mixing in high moments of tension and emotion. Add to that some truly great performances from some of the film’s key players and you have what is already one of the great dramas of 2013.

There was a golden era of baseball that has long since passed. It covered a time that spanned the years before and shortly after World War II. The teams of this age consisted of rosters that held the names of some of the greatest that ever played the game. There were those dangerous with a bat like Ted Williams and Babe Ruth and those who shut down the opposition from the mound like Dizzy Dean and Bob Feller. While these men and their teammates had their highs and lows, none of them faced the struggles and hurdles like the late, great Hammerin’ Hank Greenberg.

Django Unchained, My favorite film of 2012 arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on April 16th and for people in Los Angeles, who are interested, they will have a chance to go on a bounty hunt revolving around this release. My love for Rob Zombie (his movies, music, art, etc…) should come as no surprise to anyone here that reads Why So Blu on a frequent basis, but shame on me for taking so long to post his newest music video, “Dead City Radio,” that made its debut on Vevo this past Monday. However, it does give me a chance to try out my first post using the latest version of the iOS WordPress app on my third generation iPad. So here goes nothing. Without further ado, check out the video below, pre-order his newest album coming out April 23rd, check out Lords of Salem in theaters April 18th and last but not least, check out Rob on the Rockstar Mayhem Music Festival coming to a city near you. Enjoy!

I don’t acknowledge this very often, but I like to bookend my reviews with quotes from the film. Sometimes they sum up the film in a sense and other times they are just quotes I enjoyed the most. The two I have chosen for 42, a film that chronicles the introduction of Jackie Robinson into Major League Baseball, are featured in the film, but are also actual quotes from the men who said them. They are not the most inspiring words I have ever read, but 42 also isn’t the most inspiring movie I have ever seen. Regardless, it is a film that I have wanted to see, as the subject matter is important. While the film is only good, as opposed to great, it is occasionally quite moving, well made and acted, and a fitting tribute for a man who mainly just wanted to play baseball.

So I’ve heard mixed things about the Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones 2013 crime thriller, Broken City. Sadly, I missed the press screening when it was previewed in my area and I altogether missed the theatrical release so needless to say I was thrilled when I recently offered the chance to review the DHD version of it. For those of you that don’t know, DHD stands for Digital HD, Fox’s early access to newly released blockbuster films you can watch anytime and anywhere weeks before the film’s Blu-ray and DVD release, often with a discounted price of $14.99 or so. But like I was saying, I accepted the chance to check this movie out in advance before all the Blu-ray and DVD critics get their colloquial paws on their respective review products and be one of the first, the elite, to tackle this one on the World Wide Web. So without further ado, let’s take a private eye look at Broken City, through the eyes of yours truly…me! Continue reading ‘Broken City (iTunes HD Digital Download Review)’
