The Games Continue With ‘The Do-Deca Pentathlon’ On Blu-Ray In September

The Olympics may be over, but the games will carry on!  The Do-Deca Pentathlon went in and out of a limited amount of theaters and was available on VOD, but now it is headed for Blu-ray and DVD.  Earlier in the year, the Duplass Brothers film Jeff, Who Lives at Home came out in theaters and now they have followed that up with The Do-Deca-Pentathlon.  ‘Do-Deca’ was actually made a few years ago, but between ‘Jeff’ and 2010’s Cyrus it would seem that the Duplass’ have been given the chance to put out their much smaller and more personal movie.  ‘Do-Deca’ is a minimalist sort of feature that doubles as a high stakes sports film and an exploration of sibling rivalry.  It is certainly small scale, but also well done (Review).  The film will be released on September 18th.  Read on to learn more about this upcoming Blu-ray release. Archer & Armstrong Back with a Vengeance

We’re well into August now which can only mean one thing…it’s my dad’s birthday soon. Yes, well that and the fact that Valiant Comics is relaunching the final title of its first wave with issue #1 of Archer & Armstrong. The series was a big hit among readers back in the early 90’s. I will say this, it didn’t attract much of my attention then, but it sure as heck does now.

Dexter: The Sixth Season (Blu-ray Review)

I didn’t get into the Showtime series Dexter until about its fourth season.  It’s not that I had anything against it, actually I heard quite a bit of positive buzz about it (namely from my ex co-worker Sandy), but it was that I was too cheap to subscribe to the premium channel.  Needless to say, that all changed once I snatched up seasons One through Three on Blu-ray for a good deal on Amazon one fine day and overnight I became an instant fan of the American crime series and even turned others on to it too.  I mean what’s not to love about a “good” vigilante who takes the law into his own hands and is also a serial killer?  I know!  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.  While the character of Dexter is lovable, quirky and weird, he should be feared as bad as any worst nightmare you can ever possibly dream up.  If your mind is as sick as mine, then by all means…read on! The ‘Bourne’ Renner

I remember hearing how The Bourne Identity was not an easy movie to make, with various production issues that caused the film to go over budget and be pushed back several months, before finally hitting theaters.  Before that film became a success, it was also stated that a sequel seemed unlikely, due to the difficulty in making the first film, let alone not thinking it would be possible to match it.  Three films later, ‘Bourne’ is a huge action franchise and now it is time to revisit that universe, but with a new lead actor.  Unfortunately, despite the presence of Jeremy Renner and a solid supporting cast, The Bourne Legacy does not fully capitalize on the potential of this series.  It instead finds trouble with balancing its story and action, while trying to keep it all interesting and lead into even more eventual films.  The first Bourne had charm and worked as a standalone film, only to find success in its sequels.  Legacy wants too much too early and suffers because of it.
