If ever there was a divisive filmmaker over the last 20 years, perhaps it be that of Rob Zombie. His output has been very much of the love it or hate it mold. Regardless, he’s proven he can be one of the more interesting creators and definitely has a vision and voice. Which in the corporate algorithm, safe moviemaking landscape, that’s something I’ll always take a chance on for better or for worse. His latest effort is an update on the classic television show for which he is a big fan – The Munsters. And those who scoffed at him doing the film clearly don’t know much about the guy as he’s a huge fan of the series and if you listen to the commentary track on the Munster, Go Home! Blu-ray, you’ll see just that. I’ll admit skepticism after seeing the trailer, but I still wanted to remain optimistic on the film knowing Zombie’s passion for the material. The Munsters arrives on Blu-ray on September 27th and comes with a commentary and one-hour making of documentary. Paid Amazon Associates link is at the bottom if you’re interested in owning a copy.

Image just released their newest series from writer Donny Cates titled Vanish. Having no prior knowledge of this series’ debut issue, I went purely on the recommendation of the fine folks at my local comic book store. First off, let me say those guys know what they’re talking about. Secondly, Donny Cates (God Country, Hulk) is the man with a plan. But what is Vanish all about?

Imagine learning George A. Romero, acclaimed horror director and godfather of the zombie genre, had shot a horror film that became lost, only for it to now be uncovered. About a year ago, I became aware of such a thing, and now The Amusement Park is upon us. Following an elaborate restoration process, this lost Romero film has been given a new life, and finally premiered on Shudder. Now the feature has a pretty packed Blu-ray release to help further fill out the details concerning all anyone would want to know about this short but creepy film.

While a few of Tarantino’s films have already crossed over in the 4K UHD Blu-ray space, we are certainly due for more when it comes to his most celebrated films. We’ll have word on his game-changer, Pulp Fiction, along with its brilliant follow-up, Jackie Brown, soon enough, but for now, we’ll have to settle for the independently-made cult classic Reservoir Dogs. The stylish. dialogue-heavy, non-linear crime drama is coming to 4K for the first time in honor of its 30th anniversary on November 15, courtesy of Lionsgate. See the showdowns between Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, and other stars in stunning 4K (complete with standard and steelbook options) this fall!

Coming this December: A tender portrait of Black teens in 1960s Chicago, Cooley High, directed by Michael Schultz; a dazzling doc about one of the most iconic rock groups in history, The Velvet Underground, directed by Todd Haynes; and three films each from two provocative voices—long-overlooked Swedish pioneer of feminist cinema Mai Zetterling and Austrian auteur Michael Haneke, who probes the void of modern existence.

One of the summer’s bigger success stories with no tie to some IP franchise was that of Baz Luhrmann’s return with ELVIS. The film finished the big money season just outside the top 5 at #6, which looks pretty impressive as it clocked ahead of stuff like Lightyear. It may have some Oscar aspirations with the successful run when next year rolls around. But for now, you can pick it up on home video on the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray format. Elvis was released on September 13th and comes with an Atmos track as well as a slew of extras to dig into after the film finishes.
