Man v. Food Season 3 (DVD Review)

Adam Richman and his seemingly bottomless stomach conquer food challenges across America. Get ready to watch Adam defeat the most monstrous food challenges to date.  The five pound grilled cheese challenge at Melt Bar &Grille in Cleveland, Ohio and the insanely spicy ludicrous wing challenge at Chicken or the Egg in the Jersey Shore, and a lot more.  I have a friend named Drew Maguire who would have been perfect for this type of show, since he’s never sat down to a meal he didn’t finish, regardless of the portion size, spiciness or time frame in which he was required to finish.   Watching him eat over the years definitely prepared me for this show so it’s no surprise that I enjoyed watching this.

Tekken (Blu-ray Review)

It is now time for a little video game to live-action-film adaptation…in high definition, of course.  We are here to review Tekken on Blu-ray.   I still remember playing Tekken all those many years ago (1994) when it was at the forefront of the one-on-one fighting game platform during the whole Street Fighter II craze.  The characters were different and so were their moves.  Geez, fast forward it, at this point, to almost TWENTY YEARS later and here we are with Tekken, the live action film!  Will it do what many others have tried in vain to not do: Suck?  Keep reading and find out!   Continue reading ‘Tekken (Blu-ray Review)’

World War I in Color (DVD Review)

World War I claimed the lives of 10 million soldiers and shaped an entire century. Narrated by four-time Academy Award nominee Kenneth Branagh, this extraordinary documentary brings the war’s horror and heroism to life in a way never before revealed. Rare archival film—meticulously colorized under the guidance of expert historians—makes the past fresh, relevant, and alive.  In addition to these newly reclaimed sights and sounds, surviving WWI veterans share their experiences, personally testifying about life in the trenches, the terror of “going over the top,” and the courage and sacrifice of battle.  Analysis by military historians, detailed maps, and excerpts from the diaries and letters of men and women in the struggle offer a full range of perspectives on this unimaginably brutal, bloody clash of empires. ‘Harry Potter’ 8: Live and Let Die

So finally, after a decade’s worth of film, we have now reached the end of the Harry Potter movie franchise (minus potential spin-offs or whatever).  This is a pretty major event as far as large film series go.  Never has a major motion picture series managed to maintain all of the key actors for every major role as well as maintain a consistent level of quality all the way through.  While some of the films are better than others, this is a rare feat to have seen be accomplished.  Now, with the series finally coming to a close, one can only hope to relish in how aptly this film series manages to wrap itself up.  This is certainly one of the best made films of the franchise, when accounting for several aspects such as the look of the film, the use of special effects, the acting, and for the most part, the film’s narrative drive to the finish. So Long, Harry Potter

Ten years ago, it was easy to be skeptical of the Harry Potter movie franchise.  The prepubescent leading characters were completely new to the world of filming despite being amongst some of the UK’s greatest actors and actresses like Alan Rickman, Jason Isaacs, and Maggie Smith.  Not only were they wet behind the ears but sadly, how could one expect this large group of very young actors to imbue the strong characters they would need to become?  There were even some that considered the franchise “easy money” – expecting effortless blockbusters given the books’ world-wide phenomena. Season of the Witch (Blu-ray Review)

I was recently disappointed in Nicolas Cage after viewing Drive Angry.  That combined with a growing history of dissatisfying films like Ghost Rider made me think that Nicolas Cage just doesn’t turn down movie roles anymore.  This makes me sad to say because I’ve been a fan of Cage for a long time.  When I received Season of the Witch I was hoping to be blown away, and that it would be so good that I would owe Nicolas Cage an apology for doubting him.  After all, I am one of the few people that enjoyed The Wicker Man, so I’m always hopeful that his movies may turn out to be good.  Was this another disappointment, or was this movie actually good?  Read on to find out… Continue reading ‘Season of the Witch (Blu-ray Review)’

I Saw The Devil (Blu-Ray Review)

There are a lot of revenge films that currently exist out there.  While I am always up for a sweet revenge tale, it does excite me much more when it is a film coming out of South Korea.  Over the course of the past decade, South Korea has continued to prove to me that some of the best, stylish, and most ambitious films are coming out of that area.  Now I have gotten a chance to see one of the latest treats from South Korea, I Saw the Devil, which is a wonderfully bloody, but stylized, revenge film.  This is a film that warps the idea of a cat-and-mouse thriller and benefits heavily based on the way this film handles familiar aspects of this sub-genre. The studio today debuted gripping pre-production concept art of Paz De La Huerta in character as Abby.  Shot by Lionsgate’s Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen, it will serve as a style guide and character inspiration for all stages of filmmaking. The story was originally inspired by previous photography of horror tastemaker Palen, who explored the intersection of caretaking and punishment in an ongoing series of fine art photographs of beautiful, fantastical nurses used by the studio.  *VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED* Continue reading ‘Paz De La Huerta To Star In The Psycho-Sexual 3D Thriller ‘NURSE 3D’’
