When legendary classic rockers Bad Company performed at the historic British venue Wembley Arena in London on a beautiful April 2010 spring night, high-definition cameras captured the whole evening in all its glory. On June 28, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Live At Wembley simultaneously on DVD, Blu-Ray and CD, through its Eagle Vision and Eagle Records imprints [Pre-book Order Date June 3, MSRP $13.98 for CD, $14.98 for DVD, and $19.98 for Blu-ray].  There was magic in the air as all three original Bad Company members—vocalist extraordinaire Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke—are augmented by bassist Lynn Sorensen and guitarist Howard Leese. (Original bassist Boz Burrell died in 2006.)  The set list is packed with every major hit, fan favorites and seldom-heard deep album cuts. Hall Pass (Blu-ray Review)

It’s been a while since we reviewed a dye-in-the-wool raunchy comedy here at Why So Blu.  Hall Pass is the latest comedy film by The Farrelly Brothers starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis.  This is not just Hall Pass, though.  This is Hall Pass: ENLARGED EDITION.  Will the Blu-ray promise to be…enlarged?  Okay, I feel weird now.  Hall Pass also features Christina Applegate, and a bunch of familiar folks in supporting and cameo roles.  I love my raunchy comedies like you wouldn’t believe, but it’s been a while since The Farrelly Brothers have done something worthy of note.  Did they succeed with their latest flick or has Judd Apatow and his gang of misfits stripped The Brothers out of their raunch title belts?  Read on and find out.   Continue reading ‘Hall Pass (Blu-ray Review)’

LIMA Invades Sin City!

Greetings from the beautiful, sun drenched city of Las Vegas, Nevada.  I love it out here if you can’t tell.  Anyway, I’m writing in from the international merchandising convention, LIMA (Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association), going on now through Thursday this week at Mandalay Bay’s convention center.  Like Comic-Con, this convention floor is remarkably huge.   It took me hours to get around the floor itself.  This may not be everyone’s proverbial cup of tea, but the fanboy in me is loving every minute of it.   I can go on and on and talk about my experience here today, but I don’t want to bore you all.   I truly believe that in most cases pictures speak louder than words so I will shut up and share some that I snapped today (Tuesday) on my phone of choice, my iPhone 4 (I’m also an Apple fanboy in case you did not know that about me). Glee Live! In Concert!

What happens when you have the hottest musical/comedy show on television? You take your act on the road! Glee was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, which, believe it or not, was originally intended to be a film. Murphy, however, had other ideas and eventually proposed Glee as a weekly TV show instead of a big screen production. With two seasons in the history books and an ever-growing fanbase, the only logical thing to do next was turn Glee the show into Glee Live!  In Concert!

Unknown (Blu-ray Review)

Liam Neeson, one of the most likable human beings in Hollywood, is back in the thriller-adventure known as…Unknown. *snare*  Unknown stars Liam Neeson, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Aidan Quinn along with Bruno Ganz, and Frank Langella.  Off the heels of the action packed Taken feature (which I loved) Unknown was set to keep Neeson going as the badass taking out the trash.  Did Unknown succeed in that department?  Continue reading to find out.  Oh, and Unknown was shot in Germany.  Das ist gut!  Unknown will be released on Blu-ray June 21st, 2011.  This is another early review.   Enjoy!  Continue reading ‘Unknown (Blu-ray Review)’

The Island (Blu-ray Review)

The Island was a bit of a surprise, because I wasn’t really expecting it when it arrived.  I’m not complaining, mind you.  The Island is a futuristic science fiction film directed by Michael Bay.  Yes, that Michael Bay.  The guy that directed Bad Boys, Transformers, The Rock, etc.  I missed it in theaters upon release.  It wouldn’t be until DVD and later on via HD-DVD (German import) that I would have the chance to experience the grand scope and splendor of The Island. Paramount Pictures has finally brought The Island to Blu-ray which will be released on the high definition format on June 21st, 2011.  This is an early Blu-ray review.  Now sit back and hold on tight, because we’re going to The Island!   Continue reading ‘The Island (Blu-ray Review)’

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011: The 3D Experience (Blu-ray Review)

Sometimes it really sucks being a Blu-ray reviewer, especially when it comes to titles like this.  Relax!  I’m kidding folks.  I took one for the team when I chose to review this title.   I mean come on, what kind of dude really wants to review a Blu-ray disc full of Sports Illustrated models running around the beautiful landscapes of Hawaii half naked? This dude!  And let’s be honest here, Sports Illustrated magazine isn’t exactly known for its sports coverage (in this day and age of the Internet it’s old news by the time it hits the newsstands)…it’s known for its annual swimsuit issue, baby!  So that’s why I got so excited, like a fat kid still drooling over ice-cream cake on a cold winter day, a month ago when I found out the 2011 edition would be coming to the Blu-ray format, donning the official title of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011: The 3D Experience.    Seriously, how could one go wrong? 61* (Blu-ray Review)

Taking a nostalgic look at one of the greatest baseball teams and most memorable seasons in the game’s history, 61* spotlights the summer of 1961, when Maris and Mantle chased one of the  most hallowed baseball records ever – Babe Ruth’s 1927 single-season mark of 60 home runs.  In the spotlight of the press and at the mercy of public opinion, Maris and Mantle paid a high personal price for doing what they did best, when what should have been a season of triumph turned into a nightmare.  Ultimately, it was their deep friendship and mutual respect that saw them through their historic pursuit.  61* refers to the asterisk that baseball commissioner Ford Frick affixed next to any season record set after 154 games (by 1961, the American League has expanded to a 162-game schedule). The “distinctive mark” showed that it had taken Maris 162 games to break Ruth’s 154 games record.  It was not until 1991 that the qualifier on Maris’s achievement was lifted. Leverage Season 3 (DVD Review)

We’ve got more television antics to bring you here on Why So Blu.  On deck we have Leverage The 3rd Season on DVD.  This is the complete 3rd season of the hit television show which airs weekly on TNT.  Again, as with Being Human I was thrown into the review mix without knowing what the show would be about, so I had to go back into the Netflix queue and request the first two seasons on DVD to better acquaint myself with Leverage. The other buzzwords that I was hearing prior to watching Leverage was that it was an American remake of the British television show Hu$tle. I adore that show.  There was only one way to find out and that was by tackling the Leverage series all at once.  Here’s our review for Leverage The 3rd Season.  Enjoy.   Continue reading ‘Leverage Season 3 (DVD Review)’

Wonder and Thrills Delivered in J.J. Spielberg’s in ‘Super 8’

Before the J.J. Abrams directed film, Super 8, begins, the film is stamped with the Amblin production logo.  Amblin is a production company created by Steven Spielberg back in 1981.  When that logo began to appear on the outset of not only Spielberg films, but films directed by other filmmakers he had influenced, it would imply that the film would fall into a particular category that holds a sense of wonder that could skew towards all audiences.  Super 8, which has Spielberg on board as a producer, certainly evokes elements of films like E.T, Gremlins. and The Goonies, but is also a product of modern cinematic sensibilities. Being Human Season 3 (Blu-ray Review)

So my fellow editor and writer Brian White put out the call asking the Why So Blu crew if they wanted to review something called Being Human Season 3. I initially thought someone else would grab it, but luckily no one did.  After I looked it up on the internet and found out what it was I knew I had to make tracks and scoop it up.  I was victorious in that department.  This left just one small problem, though.  I had not seen the first two seasons of the show, so some reconnaissance was in order.  To the Netflix queue!  I went through a mini marathon of sorts to get all caught up on Being Human and I am now well versed in the tragic world of these monsters.   Here’s our review of Being Human Season 3 on Blu-ray.  Enjoy!  Continue reading ‘Being Human Season 3 (Blu-ray Review)’
