This reference may be slightly dated at this point, but before the rise of redneck comedy occurred in America in the form of entertainment such as The Blue Collar Comedy Tour in 2000, there was an early comic persona fulfilling that role. That persona belonged to Ernest P. Worrell, the rubber-faced goofball, who was a seemingly good natured fellow, despite being accident prone and constantly mugging at the camera. Originating as an advertising tool, the character (played by the late Jim Varney) would go on to become popular enough to headline a series of films that revolved around his latest situation or predicament. Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly and Cam Gigandet lead a hot young cast in the year’s most dangerously sexy thriller. Or at least that’s how the film is billed. I’m holding my judgment until I see this one. The terror of The Roommate moves in on Blu-ray and DVD May 17th. Blu-ray bonus features include deleted scenes, movieIQ and more! Check out the full press release below from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and pre-order your copy today! Continue reading ‘‘The Roommate’ Moves In & Terrorizes Blu-ray’

Louie offers a glimpse into the life of a comedian which is basically a slightly fictional version of his own life. He plays Louie, a somewhat successful comic, who is trying to raise two daughters and survive in New York City. It’s a funny show that includes many other comics and guest stars who are always there to give Louie a hard time. Continue reading ‘Louie Season One Arrives on Blu-ray June 21!’

Leading up to the film’s release it has been very interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts on Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. I have people in my life that very much oppose the film, going as far to say its subject matter is an abomination of the screenplay format, and others like me who can’t wait to get it on with the all-female cast. Although I heard about the production some years ago, my first exposure to the world of Sucker Punch was at last year’s Comic-Con (see here). The exclusive footage Snyder screened to the packed to capacity Hall H audience was riveting, mystical and orgasmic. Continue reading ‘Don’t Get “Sucker Punched” Into Buying a Ticket!’

So this movie was a big sandbox of ideas, ambition, and disappointment. In terms of editing, style, and structure, watching Sucker Punch was like watching a day’s worth of programming on MTV, crammed into a long, two hour movie. It begins early with a couple music videos; it then gives us shallow, underdeveloped, yet beautiful (skimpily dressed) teenage girls – dancing, fighting, and getting into one ridiculous situation after the other; then, finally, the film tries to hit us with a deeper message, while raising the stakes to help us feel the turmoil of the main character; we also get a hip dance number at the end. Nintendo and George Lucas have two things in common. Both are innovative and both will market something to death as long as customers keep flocking to the product. There’s good news and bad news with mentioning them. The bad news is the rest of this article has nothing to do with George Lucas. The good news is tomorrow the newest edition of the Nintendo DS will be released in stores as the video game giant is the latest company to jump on the 3D bandwagon.

Why So Blu may not be a sports site, but we do love our MMA, or mixed martial arts for those unfamiliar. We’ve covered three events and have interviewed several fighters in a matter of months. A first for us, however, is interviewing a professional fighter one-on-one. Meet Micah Bender. This Pennsylvania native already has 14 fights to his credit with another on the horizon in the near future.

It was almost two years ago to the date when Ghostbusters: The Video Game arrived in store shelves. Both Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray had active roles not only as voice actors, but in the game’s creation. In the end, it was a sub-par game that had its moments. Recently released on the Playstation Network is another Ghostbusters title. How does it measure up to its predecessor? It’s not an even match-up as the experiences of both are vastly different.

Imagine in the year 2027 we are living in a country where all the freedoms we have fought so hard for were eliminated by a unification of North and South Korea. Then imagine being forced into camps similar to those used in WWII by the Germans. If you are lucky enough to not be in one of these camps, then you have to live with the fear of knowing that any moment one of the newly empowered Korean soldiers could kick in your door and take you into custody. How do you feel about that? Continue reading ‘Homefront (PS3 Game Review)’
