The Horseman (Blu-ray Review)

Every few years a low budget thriller will come along and blow away even the most polished, cliched, mindless pieces of crap out there with its heart and simplicity.  I’m quite pleased to say that Steven Kastrissio’s The Horseman is one of those films.  Having financed the film by himself with the help of family members, The Horseman is a four year journey in the making.  Believe me when I tell you, it wasn’t all a labor of love. Comic-Con 2010: Starz’s ‘SPARTACUS’ Returns!

It’s that time of the year again.  The time we start blitzing you with all the happenings that will be going down this July at Comic-Con 2010.  The fever is in the air and I could not be more excited about it, especially when you are talking about the Starz original series Spartacus.  Few TV shows have touched me like Spartacus has this past year.  Not only did I never expect to like it, but my cheap arse also subscribed to a premium cable channel just so I didn’t miss a heart pounding moment. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Starz’s ‘SPARTACUS’ Returns!’

Interview with MMA Fighter Mike Maderitz

Maderitz competes in the lightweight class and, like Brandon Vasquez (see last week’s story), is drawing his focus toward the fast approaching date of June 26th when he will match skills with opponent Stephen Harness. Enter to Win a Copy of The Horseman on Blu-ray!

Ever since a few weeks ago I have heard nothing but stellar comments and positive buzz about a revenge film from Australia called The Horseman.  I have yet to check the film out yet, but it’s number 1 on my list of Blu-ray films to watch this week.  It has been getting rave reviews from just about every movie news site I read daily.  I have even included a review below from Quint over at Ain’t it Cool News.  I mean, you can’t go wrong with that site, can you? Continue reading ‘Enter to Win a Copy of The Horseman on Blu-ray!’

The Illusionist (Blu-ray Review)

I’ve always loved movies about magic so I was looking forward to reviewing The Illusionist which I missed in the theaters.  I remember this movie came out around the same time as The Prestige so there were dueling magician movies just like volcano, Wyatt Earp and asteroid movies, which usually ends with the first movie doing well and the second one suffering. Showgirls: Sinsational Edition (Blu-ray Review)

ShowgirlsShowgirls will always be a cult classic favorite of mine.  I have owned this film on all available video formats as they have been released.  I imagine when holographic movies are released; I will be the first person standing in line eagerly awaiting this title.  I remember having to sneak this VHS rental home from Blockbuster back in late 1995.  I gave it a very quiet basement viewing after my parents went to sleep one night. Grade A for The A-Team

Love or hate the 80’s, it became a pop culture mecca, spitting out one frame of success after another.  As a kid, the The A-Team was one of my favorite television shows.  I didn’t know anything about melding as a group back then or what good acting or bad acting was.  I did know that show had lots of action with some good guys that were framed and they drove around in a really wicked van…with a spoiler!  Then, earlier this year, I saw the trailer to…could it be…an A-Team movie?! Continue reading ‘Grade A for The A-Team’

The Karate Kid – No Wax Required!

The Karate Kid is no doubt a re-imagining of the 1984 film, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why they changed the original title of the film, The Kung Fu Kid.  Other than a very quick reference or two made in dialog, the film has nothing to do with karate.  However, it has everything to do with the good old original film that we all intimately know and love.  But we’ll cover that shortly.  For now, rest assured, the film is not a blatant rip-off.  Ralph Macchio will always be the “Karate Kid.” Continue reading ‘The Karate Kid – No Wax Required!’

Inteview with MMA Fighter Brandon Vasquez

Until recently, my interaction with mixed martial arts fighters was pretty much nonexistent.  After the good folks at CageStars and Chu To Bu West Gym showed me around, I was an educated man.  As photographer Scott Morrison and I first walked into the gym, a Jiu Jitsu class was well under way on one end of the room, while the other featured the MMA athletes hard at work, attacking the punching bag with lightning-quick jabs and high-flying knees.  The first fighter I had the opportunity to sit down with was the 185-pound Brandon Vasquez from Lorain, Ohio. Life (Blu-ray Review)

When it comes to documentaries, the British Broadcasting Corporation, otherwise known as the BBC, strives to not only to provide a high quality production, but the best that can be offered.  The 2007 release of Planet Earth was truly a sight to behold and up to that point, was arguably the greatest nature documentary of all time.  Not only did the crew manage to capture the beauty of nature, they also managed to grab footage never before seen, ranging from highly endangered creatures to behaviors of desperation. Twentieth Century Fox has just announced USA Network’s newest hit original series, White Collar Season One, will be made available on Blu-ray July 13th.  Season Two premieres that very same day on USA Network.  I never caught the show before, but the synopsis I provided below seems pretty intriguing.  Actually, anything about the FBI usually catches my eye.  So I’m hooked!  Pre-order your Blu-ray copy of White Collar Season One today! Want Some Kick-Ass Blu-ray News?

Would you settle for just the announcement that Kick-Ass (my #4 movie of the year so far) is coming to Blu-ray on August 3rd?  That’s right!  Lionsgate Home Entertainment made the official announcement yesterday.  The Blu-ray combo pack will feature a 1080p AVC MPEG-4 video presentation and an arse-kicking 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio surround track.  And if that’s not enough, well then there’s a whole bunch of extras and goodies slated for the release too. Lost Boys: The Thirst Official Trailer

Wow!  I never saw this one coming.  I know they set it up in the deleted scenes of the 2nd Lost Boys film, but with the untimely death of Corey Haim, I never thought a third film would ever come to fruition, not to mention so quickly.  Well folks get ready for some more vampire slashing.  The official trailer for the third film in the franchise, Lost Boys: The Thirst, hit You Tube a little over a week ago.  I’m just now catching wind of it.  The synopsis and full length trailer are posted below.  Enjoy! Cage Stars & The Rise of MMA

If you told me that mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting was the fastest growing sport around, I’d be hard-pressed to disagree with you.  There is no denying the impression MMA has left on the public not just in the States, but around the world.  The competitors come from around the globe to match not only their strength, but their wits against their fellow fighters.  With personalities such as the Shamrock brothers, Chuck Liddell, and current powerhouse Anderson Silva, the landscape features an array of fighters from all weight classes, each with their unique arsenal of fighting styles.
