And you thought it was the final piece of his puzzle. Oh wait! Maybe it might be? Until we get the official word that Saw VII is greenlit and apparent for another Halloween release date in 2010, you can always relish in the joy knowing that Jigsaw will be back again for another Blu-ray treatment this January. I am probably one of the last people on Earth who has not seen this year’s smash hit film Zombieland. I would also be lying if I said I was not looking forward to checking this one out on the Blu-ray format…Day 1! Yep ladies and gentlemen…this is a Day #1 Blu-ray blind buy for me. I am going in with high expectations and I am not planning on being disappointed. I mean how could I? Continue reading ‘Zombieland Invades Blu-ray!’

It’s the end of the year and we’re beginning to see the usual “best-of” lists. Seeing as this is 2009, some of these may even be “best of the decade.” Now, let’s be honest, some of these will be spot on, some will be terrible, but ultimately, they’re all subjective. That’s the beauty of cinema; there will never be two people who fully agree on everything a film has to offer. Continue reading ‘1939: Hollywood’s Greatest Year’

One of the perks of attending the Cinema Wasteland mini-convention in Strongsville, Ohio, besides the convenient locale for me, is being able to discuss various horror projects with their creators. Of the several attendees at this past autumn’s gathering, Director Emil Hyde was on hand to promote and discuss his latest work, The Landlord. Continue reading ‘Cinema Wasteland ’09 – The Landlord on Blu-ray’

Dream it…Earn it…Live it…with Fame this January on Blu-ray. The Blu-ray disc with Digital Copy will take center stage in your living room on January 12th from MGM Home Entertainment featuring an Extended Dance Edition not seen in theaters. Despite what most critics might have thought, I actually liked the film (see here). It’s an underdog tale of making your dreams come true. Everyone can use a little of that in their lives. As the Oscar season begins to heat up, there are always a few winter blockbusters thrown into the mix to help relieve some of the public’s apprehension of going to a movie with the fear of seeing something “too smart,” aka boring. This season is no different, with James Cameron’s new special effects epic Avatar. To some, such films are a welcome release, for the audience can sit back in a theater chair and just watch without thinking too much about the plot, but rather enjoy the action. Continue reading ‘Restoring Cinema’s Past’

Last we met, it was but a movie, now it is a concert. On December 3rd, a very unique event landed in Cleveland, Ohio…Star Wars: In Concert, performed by the amazing talents of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and their accompanying choir. However, you know that if Star Wars is the sole focus of the evening, this will not be your average concert. Continue reading ‘Star Wars: In Concert’

With an all-star cast of Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal, how can you go wrong? Well, let’s stop right there because Everybody’s Fine sported the likes of Robert De Niro, Kate Beckinsale and Drew Barrymore and that movie was a sloth-like downer. Fortunately, the same does not hold true for Brothers which made its box office debut this past weekend. Continue reading ‘‘Brothers’ Slow But Powerful’

The press tagline reads…”Ditching the beauty pageant circuit, a rebellious teenager finds her own ‘tribe’ and uncovers an unshakable bond with her mother.” And here I was hoping Whip It would be about girl-on-girl physical confrontations, bumping and tumbling in the world of roller derby games. Despite my forecasts, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring the roller derby drama home to the Blu-ray format on January 26th. Continue reading ‘Whip It Rolls Onto Blu-ray This January…’

Unlike the film’s trailer, I am not going to mislead you with the heading of this article. Everybody’s Fine starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale, comes out in theaters this Friday. Thank goodness I am here to save your wallets so your ten-dollar bills do not commit suicide at the box office. The trailer led me and a few others to believe that this movie was a nifty, smile-inducing, heart-felt piece about family and bringing everyone together. Being the big proponents we are of Rob Zombie here at Why So Blu I thought it would be only fitting to officially announce the US release date of his upcoming CD. Finally, after a short delay in release plans (see here), I am ecstatic to announce a February 2nd release date for Hellbilly Deluxe 2. February 2nd cannot come fast enough! After already hearing two songs from the CD, I have high expectations that this will be Rob’s best effort yet. Continue reading ‘Zombie’s Hellbilly Deluxe 2 Gets A Release Date!’

Do you see the look on Matt Damon’s face in the image to the left? That pretty much sums up my expression when I first read the following news. Supposedly, Universal thinks that it is a good thing to bring back something I hated about the dead HD DVD technology. With the release of the individual Bourne movies on Blu-ray, they will be bringing back their combo flipping technology. What does that mean? Continue reading ‘Universal Introduces Blu-ray Flipper Combos’

OK…Well I changed the tagline just slightly. This January get ready to be terrified once again by the murderous Michael Myers as Rob Zombie’s Halloween II scares the sh#$ out of you in HD. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be bringing the summer horror film to the beautiful Blu-ray format on January 12th. The Blu-ray will be presented in a 1.85:1 apsect ratio with a 1080P AVC encode and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Continue reading ‘Rob Zombie’s Halloween II: Blu-ray is Forever’

The creative team (consisting of writer Rick Remender and comic book artist Tony Moore) that brought us the very cool Fear Agent from Dark Horse Comics is back, and this time they’ve taken Frank Castle, The Punisher, in a direction you’d never thought you’d see. In fact, here’s the conversation I imagine Rick Remender had with his editor. Continue reading ‘The Punisher a.k.a. FrankenCastle’

Once a fabled Sith mentioned only in passing, Darth Bane has gained significant notoriety with fans of the Star Wars universe and we have none other than author Drew Karpyshyn to thank for it. The accomplished wordsmith is the man behind the pages of these Old Republic-timeline novels that showed readers a new perspective in the world of Star Wars; life through the eyes of the Jedi’s deadliest enemy. Rather than try for a slavishly faithful adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book The Fantastic Mr. Fox, director Wes Anderson has opted to reshape it to suit his own distinctive style and themes. The basic premise, that Mr. Fox (voiced by George Clooney) steals food and beverages from three mean and nasty farmers, is the same. However, Anderson has added new characters and plot elements to the tale that give the movie a flavor unmistakably his own. Continue reading ‘Absolutely Fantastic!’
