And now for another late night edition of The Daily Blu. We have a few things to cover before I call it a night. First up, Twentieth Century Fox has issued a January 26th Blu-ray release date for Drew Barrymore’s Whip It. Second, Paramount Home Entertainment has declared the next 2 titles in their Blu-ray Sapphire Series. They are The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II. The Blu-ray releases will be identical to the ones in The Coppola Restoration box set. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…November 4, 2009’

I am sure it seems like we are on the Rob Zombie bandwagon here. I respect the hell out of the guy for all he has brought to the world of music, movies, comics and more. That kind of fits our slogan here at Why So Blu if you think about it. Anyway, the latest news I dug up today comes as quite a shock to me. It has to be a great thing for Rob, or I am sure he would not have done it, but its the fans who are going to have to suffer a little longer while we anxiously wait for his Hellbilly Deluxe 2 album to drop. First of all, Happy G.I. Joe day! One of my favorite films of the year, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, made its Blu-ray debut today and I could not be happier. Fans of the film, or peeps wanting to learn more about the Blu-ray edition, should check out our own Brian White’s Blu-ray review of the film over at Into The Blu. While it was not a winner at the box office this summer, please extend a very warm welcome for Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 releasing on the Blu-ray format January 12th. Before the world of High-Definition and Blu-ray ever existed the majority of my life was devoted to music. Not only was I an avid fan of my favorite musical acts, but I also participated and dabbled in the lifestyle as well. Yes, in my past life I fronted a few bands. So it gives me great joy, from time-to-time, to revisit my roots and bring to this site some current music news and happenings. Continue reading ‘Shakira Brings Sexy Back with She Wolf’

How was your Halloween? Did you all survive the time change? Well, to kick off the work week we got some new “Blu” news to deliver so let’s take a moment to recap the Blu-ray announcements that were made public today. It seems like the rumors last week were true. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will be bringing the Diablo Cody, Amanda Seyfied and the Megan Fox vehicle Jennifer’s Body to the Blu-ray format on December 29th. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…November 2, 2009’

I would like to spend some time talking about a subject that really has me rubbed the wrong way as of late. I’m talking of course about Wal-Mart’s Big Screen Blu-ray edition of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. If the film wasn’t a let down enough as it was, compared to its predecessor, then rest assured as this Blu-ray release definitely sinks the Titanic for the world of A/V enthusiasts like myself. We haven’t had any posted deals in awhile so that’s why when I stumbled upon this deal I just had to post it up. Leave it to Amazon to have such an unbelievable low pre-order price on what can easily be called one of the best movies of the year. Yep, that’s right folks. The Todd Phillips smash hit comedy of the year, The Hangover, is available now for pre-order at the ridiculous low price of only $17.99. If you walk out of the theater thinking what you just watched is the world’s longest music video, then you just don’t get it. For those of us who have had any kind of connection to Michael Jackson over the past four decades, you will appreciate this film and revel in its sights, sounds and emotion. When I was just a kid growing up in Highland, Indiana, my first exposure to Michael Jackson as I remember it was the ‘Billie Jean’ video. Continue reading ‘Michael Jackson’s This is It…A Farewell’

The evil returns! Rob Zombie is back with another a#$-kicking batch of songs coming November 17th. The album is titled Hellbilly Deluxe 2 and the first single “What ?” has been unleashed and is available as an mp3 download on Amazon today for only 99 cents! It’s a rare occasion for me, but I actually fell in love with the song after my first listen. It very well could be attributed to the fact that I have been listening to Zombie non-stop over the past couple months, but I must admit that it’s refreshing to see Rob Zombie is not showing any signs of slowing down or going soft as he ages. Judging from the rehearsal footage of Michael Jackson’s This is It, the concert would have been a spectacular showcase for Jackson’s music. The audience during the Tuesday preview screening could hardly contain themselves after each song, clapping and cheering wildly as if they were witnessing the final concert rather than just rough dress rehearsals and sound checks. We have an enormous amount of Blu-ray announcements to make today so put your seatbelt on as I accelerate the Blu-ray bus with no precaution. I have announcements from just about every major studio today so let’s start with my favorite news of the day from Fox. The Diablo Cody horror/quirky comedy Juno II, sorry I meant Megan’s Body…ugh…there I go again…Jennifer’s Body will make its rumored Blu-ray debut on December 29th! Gamer is another movie that totally slipped past my radar, this year, during its theatrical run. If only I had more time in life to accomplish everything I want to. I bet we all say that at one point or another. Anyway, enough excuses! My time to see Gamer in glorious High-Definition will be here before I know it. Lionsgate has announced a January 19th Blu-ray release date for the action packed thriller starring everyone’s favorite Spartan, Gerard Butler, Dexter’s Michael C. Hall, Ludacris and Kyra Sedgwick. What a twisted film. I loved it. There is no sense in hiding my feelings for Law Abiding Citizen starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. I really can’t remember that last time I’d been to the theater two days in a row, but after the draining monotony of Amelia yesterday, I needed some cinematic Listerine to wash the taste out of my mouth. I really don’t know where in the world to begin with this movie. Continue reading ‘Jamie Foxx & Gerard Butler; Law Abiding Citizens’

My favorite publicist over at Spike TV dropped us a line yesterday and provided some additional video clips to share with our readers in anticipation of tonight’s broadcast of the 4th annual Scream awards. We also have some exclusive Spike TV press photos from the event to share with you below. Unfortunately, a picture of the show’s opening host, the lovely Jessica Alba, is sorely missing from their press photo package. Continue reading ‘Spike TV’s Scream 2009 Airs Tonight!’

While attending the 2009 Spike TV Scream Awards, I had the privilege of meeting one very unique person. Her resumé is quite diverse and is only outmatched by her intense drive to succeed and reach the top. Tara Cardinal is a self-proclaimed stunt diva as well as a scream queen, entertainment analyst, actress and creator/producer of Legend of the Red Reaper. With the kind of schedule any one of those occupations has, it’s a wonder how Tara balances the aspects of each, but so far, she’s done so successfully. First you’ve got Oscar-winner Hilary Swank. Next, add in some Richard Gere and then throw in a little Ewan McGregor for good measure. What do you have? An extremely talented cast, that’s what. Amelia is a film about the professional and private life of famed aviator, Amelia Earhart. I will sheepishly admit, even as someone who is interested in history, I knew little of the woman, other than she disappeared on what was to be a record-setting flight. Saturday, October 17th, 2009…It was a night I will never forget. The filming of Spike TV’s fourth annual Scream 2009 awards will go down as one of the most memorable nights of my life. Not only did fate play a crucial role as an opportunity to provide red carpet coverage presented itself during my already planned vacation time in Los Angeles, but destiny intervened as the stars aligned and I suddenly found myself surrounded by all the actors who have meant so much to me over the years, for better or worse. Gaming has changed quite a bit since its beginnings in the 1970’s with Magnavox’s Odyssey and its first steps into mainstream pop culture in the mid to late 1980’s with Nintendo’s NES. Games have gone from tests of skill with steep learning curves such as Deadly Towers and Ghosts and Goblins to more cinematic titles such as Halo and Heavenly Sword. Developer “From Software” has produced a title that attempts to bring these hard-boiled games of yore back into the modern spotlight with Demon’s Souls.
