Universal Studios has just dished out some of the final specs for Clint Eastwood’s film Changeling, which is scheduled for a February 17th release date. Technical specs will see a 1080P BD-50 disc with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track. I have not seen this movie as of yet, but I have heard many good things about it. Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond film, finally has a release date on the Blu-ray format. This is my 2nd favorite film of 2008! MGM has just announced a March 24th Blu-ray release date for the latest 007 film. We will see a BD-50 disc with a 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video encode. The audio track of choice will be a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 surround track. The following special features, all presented in High-Definition (YES!), have been announced. One of the most controversial and critically acclaimed films of the year, W., will be released this February from Lionsgate. The film is about the life story of George W. Bush and is directed by Oliver Stone. The Blu-ray will be released day-and-date with the DVD on February 10th. The Blu-ray will feature the usual 1080P widescreen video with a 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio soundtrack. The rated PG-13 film includes the likes of cast members Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Banks. Ellen Burstyn, James Cromwell, Richard Dreyfuss, Scott Glenn, Ioan Grufford, Thandie Newton and Jeffery Wright. The full press release from Lionsgate can be found below.

The teen vampire sensation taking the nation by storm, Twilight, will see a March release date on the Blu-ray format. Summit Entertainment has recently announced that Twilight will see a Blu-release date on March 21st. Twilight is a PG-13 film that is based on the first book of Stephenie Meyer’s young adult novel series. Twilight became a big hit at the box office last year. As of right now, other than the known release date, there is no confirmation of any technical specs or of any of the included supplemental materials. Keep it tuned here for any emerging details as they become available.

Warner Home Video has announced that all four of the Batman films, made between 1989-1997, will be released in a Blu-ray box set on March 10th. The Blu-ray box set, which includes the films Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, will be released under the name Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology. Technical specs see each film receiving a BD-50 1.85:1 presentation with a 1080P VC-1 video encode. The chosen audio format will be a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround track. There is no official word yet on what special features we can expect, but the word on the street is to expect a lot. Stay tuned for further coverage as details emerge.

Let’s try this again. After Sony teased us last year with their announcement at Comic Con about the Ghostbusters’ Blu-ray release date, only to see it indefinitely delayed, they are at it again. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring Ghostbusters to the Blu-ray format on June 16th to mark the 25th Anniversary of the film. The film will be digitally remastered and will be presented in a 2.20:1 aspect ratio with a 1080P AVC encode. The film will also boast a new 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Everyone’s favorite transporter is coming to the Blu-ray format again this March. Lionsgate has just announced that Jason Statham’s Transporter 3 will be arriving on the Blu-ray format March 10th. We have no technical specs or knowledge of what special features will be included as of yet. I imagine Lionsgate should be announcing those very soon. We just wanted to let the Blu-ray public know when to expect the latest in the three part Transporter franchise. As soon as we get the full press release of what to expect from this Blu-ray release we will post it up here. In the mean time keep that black Audi clean if you have one and keep your eyes here for the latest!

2008 was an important year for the Blu-ray technology front. It was the year we were victorious in the, what seemed like forever, Hi-Def Format War. Let’s see George Lucas make a movie or television show about those 2 years. Since 2006 Blu-ray fought tooth and nail against rival Toshiba’s inferior HD DVD product. The only reason that the inferior HD DVD disc lasted so long was because they were cheaper to produce. I know this has been a pretty slow week in the land of Blu-ray news so let’s try to shine a little light on an upcoming new release we are excited about. Warner Home Video recently announced an April 7th release date for the infamous teen horror flick Final Destination. Final technical specs have just been announced. Final Destination will get the usual 1080P VC-1 video treatment on a BD-25 disc. The aspect ratio will be presented in 1.85:1. The audio soundtrack of choice is a prime cut 5.1 Dolby TrueHD offering. Disney has announced a February 17th Blu-ray release date for the kids of High School Musical 3. This is the very same day that High School Musical: Remix hits the Blu-ray format too. We will see a BD-50 disc with 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 surround track. Known extras include featurettes, deleted scenes, bloopers and “Cast Goodbyes.” Exclusive to only the Blu-ray are cast profiles, a “Senior Awards” featurette, a Digital Copy of the film and BD-Live interactivity. Last night I got the exciting opportunity to participate in the Warner Brothers’ BD-Live screening of The Dark Knight with director Christopher Nolan. I really did not know what to expect. I was just ecstatic to be one of the lucky ones selected to be part of this once in a lifetime film screening. I am not shy in admitting that The Dark Knight was my favorite movie of 2008. The film and its amazing levels of depth really took me by surprise. In fact, it now possesses a cozy spot on my mantle, within my top 10 list of all-time movie favorites. April 7th will big a busy day for Blu-ray and the folks over at Warner Bros. Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring not 1…not 2…not even 5…but 10 popular catalog titles to the Blu-ray format on April 7th. These titles include The Wedding Singer, American History X, Final Destination, Point of No Return, Taking Lives, Tango & Cash, 2010: The Year We Made Contact, Above the Law, John Q and Collateral Damage. Technical specs of all releases are sketchy at best. We will keep you updated as full technical specs are released. I am particularly looking forward to The Wedding Singer and Taking Lives on the Blu-ray format!

This is kind of old news in the Blu-ray world but recently Paramount has announced that the South Park gang is headed to the format for the very first time this March. On March 17th, Paramount will bring the complete 12th season to the Blu-ray format. We will see all 14 uncensored episodes on a 3-disc set presented in 1080P video (1.78:1) and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound. Extras announced thus far include 3 featurettes: “Six Days to South Park: Super Fun Time,” “Six Days to South Park: The Sixth Day” and “The Making of Major Boobage.” It sure sounds like a rockin’ time for South Park on the next gen format!
