CW’s The Flash continues to be the top show of the Arrowverse as well as on the network itself in both popularity and ratings. The show returns to Blu-ray boasting a “complete” sixth season, however as anyone knows that it isn’t quite as whole as it was supposed to be. Another one taken down early by COVID-19 precautions, the show was halted in the middle of production of its 20th episode and decided to finish the season on an underwhelming closure with the 19th installment. Its a shame, but they do what they have to do. In its latest Blu-ray, it features the normal deleted scenes, gag reel and San Diego Comic Con hub bub that gets spread across all the Arrowverse Blu-rays. And its original release, like the others, it comes with a disc featuring the complete Crisis On Infinite Earths cross over event. To boot, there is a noir version of an episode done in black and white as well. The Flash: The Complete Sixth Season is available now, available by order below on the paid Amazon Associates link.

By now, a new Judd Apatow movie means a film working to balance humor with pathos, while pushing the limits of its story via a lengthy runtime. For a comedy, The King of Staten Island is most certainly another Apatow flick requiring the viewer to determine whether or not 2+ hours were essential. As it stands, however, while ‘Staten Island’ does take its time, there is a lot to like about this salt-of-the-earth city and the characters from this film who reside there. The film opened on VOD this past June and has now arrived on a packed Blu-ray full of extras, in addition to a terrific transfer.

Waxworks (Das Wachsfigurenkabinett) was the final film Paul Leni directed in Germany before striking out for Hollywood, where he made such classic genre films as The Cat and the Canary, The Man Who Laughs, and The Last Warning. Its sophisticated medley of genres was in fact what inspired Universal s Carl Laemmle to invite Leni to come to Hollywood, as Laemmle was hoping to capitalize on the emerging comedy-horror craze of the 1920s. Stylistically, Waxworks was celebrated as a late example of German Expressionism. Its stylized sets (designed by Leni), fantastical costumes, chiaroscuro lighting, and startlingly bold performances are characteristic of that cinematic movement and contribute to the film’s lasting appeal. As the original German version of Waxworks) has not survived, this newly restored English edition – a joint effort by the Deutsche Kinemathek and Cineteca di Bologna, L Immagine Ritrovata (with funding from the German Commission for Culture and the Media) – is composed of vintage exports prints and additional film materials from archives around the world. The elements, including English intertitles, were scanned in 4K resolution and then restored in 2K. Presented by Flicker Alley and Eureka Entertainment in a Blu-ray/DVD dual-format edition, there is an option of two scores to accompany the film: a new piano score by Richard Siedhoff and a new instrumental score by Bernd Schultheis, Olav Lervik, and Jan Kohl, commissioned by ZDF/ARTE and performed by Ensemble Musikfabrik. Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers is a classic horror story that takes a perfect Normal Rockwell town and turns it inside out. Brian Krause, Mädchen Amick (Twin Peaks), and Alice Krige (Chariots of Fire) star in this terrifying tale of modern-day vampires who move from small town to small town to prey on virtuous young women. Imperceptibly inhuman to everyone except for felines, these vicious shape-shifters have their eyes on a new victim: Tanya (Amick), who has fallen for Charles, the new boy at her school. Making its debut on Blu-ray in the UK, Eureka Classics is proud to present Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers. Continue reading ‘‘Sleepwalkers’ [Eureka Classics] on Blu-ray October 19!’

Unhinged will go down in the record books as the first new studio film to open with a wide release since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down everything five months ago. While I am just perfectly fine with my #10 movie of all time, Birds of Prey, taking home top honors this year at 2021’s Academy Awards it was the trailer for Unhinged that had me hook, line and sinker. Call me a sucker. Call me what you want. When you throw in an addictive cover of a Nirvana song such as “Heart-Shaped Box” in the film’s trailer, you got yourself a sucker here. They say one’s born every minute so that makes me your sucker of the minute here. However, fret not because Solstice Studios feels confident in what they bill as an “edge-of-your-seat” thriller here will remind you what you’ve missed about seeing movies on the big screen. Let’s find out if that’s true or not down below. Continue reading ‘Russell Crowe Gets ‘Unhinged’ In This Fast & Furious Vehicle (Movie Review)’

Walt Disney Studios isn’t the only animation department crafting fairy tale princess franchises these days. Sony Pictures has had their own animation and own princess franchise going for a while now. Granted, its much less high profile and well, its very much straight to video on demand services, but it exists nonetheless. I’m referring to The Swan Princess. Through my research, since rebooting the film with new animation in 2014 (Originally a Sony hand drawn animated film back 1994), there have been a handful of entries in this magical world of a princess that once took the form of a swan. This latest entry, The Swan Princess: A Royal Wedding, arrived for consumption on August 4th. This latest entry give focus less on our Swan Princess and introduces us to a Japanese princess Mei Li and her struggles against sorcery and transformations.
