Hi, I’m Brandon Peters and I am not an A.C.O.D. My wife is also not a member of the Adult Children Of Divorce. So, I really don’t know what that whole thing is like, even though growing up I’ve had friends and dated women that have had divorced parents. I’ve only witnessed things as an outsider, so I’m not gonna tackle this review pointing out the accuracies and inaccuracies of the topic at hand. Why? I’m not the expert and I’m not gonna act like I am. The stuff in the film seemed real enough to me, but I can’t weigh in on experience. I suppose my experience in life is more closer to Lauren in the film’s, but my parents and grandparents have never celebrated really odd numbered anniversary dates. Continue reading ‘A.C.O.D. Wow! You don’t know how long I’ve been patiently waiting for Knights of Badassdom to be released! I first met Joe Lynch at the premiere of Chillerama at Comic-Con 2011 along with his cohorts Adam Green and Tim Sullivan. The very next day I talked to the man again at the press only conference for this film. Some two years later the film has yet to be released. Just when I was about to give up, late last year, word broke of its eventual release in 2014. However, I do hear rumors sadly that it’s not the cut Joe Lynch had in mind. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to some serious LARP action with Peter Dinklage and Ryan Kwanten. The film will be made available via TUGG on January 21, 2014 and on VOD February 11, 2014. So while you wait for those dates, why don’t you check out a special clip released online today along with the flick’s synopsis and poster. Enjoy! Are you hungry? I hope so because the Parker family would love to have you over for dinner. However, let me provide a word to the wise. If you are squeamish at all when it comes to gory moments in horror films, make sure you fill your belly first before viewing We Are What We Are as it may be awhile before you eat again, particularly red meat. Honest to God, I have not taken in a single piece of red meat since viewing this feature On Demand several weeks ago. I suppose I’ll be healthier for it, but this movie conjures a lot of memories in my mind every time I see a silver cooking pot, a soup bowl or a hunk of beef. So maybe I should be thanking the filmmakers here for making me a healthier eater, huh? I suppose I should, but I digress. So today, without further ado, we are here to talk about one hell of a shocking horror film finally making waves on the Blu-ray format after being available On Demand and digitally for weeks now. Ladies and gentlemen…We Are What We Are or as I like to call “We Are What We Eat.” Continue reading ‘We Are What We Are (Blu-ray Review)’

Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announce the simultaneous theatrical and VOD release of writer/director Ben Wheatley’s original psychological horror film, A Field In England, on February 7, 2014. Director Martin Scorsese said A Field in England is”audacious and wildly brilliant – a stunning cinematic experience.” The story takes place during the Civil War in 17th-Century England and follows a small group of deserters fleeing from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by an alchemist (Michael Smiley), who forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field. Get the Top 10 Blu-rays of 2014 lists ready, we’ve got a potential suitor. William Friedkin’s kind of “lost” film Sorcerer is making the leap to Blu-ray. The film is one that wasn’t very well received upon released, but in the previous year has been gaining steam and has been reevaluated as an unappreciated gem. I think its exciting when there’s some secret or newly discovered piece of any legendary director’s history. This will be getting a 4K restoration treatment. If its anything like the restoration for The Exorcist and the 2nd iteration of The French Connection, we’re in for a real treat here. For many it will be like watching the film with fresh new eyes for the very first time. There’s been an excitement building for it for years as Friedkin struggled to find who had the rights to the film and then went through the courts to get those rights back. Now, he’s got it and he’s overseeing the whole thing. Hopefully if this does well, maybe we’ll see that Cruising movie of his on Blu-ray that I put as a part of my wishlist last year. Hot off the success of the shared-world vampire prose anthology,V-Wars, IDW and New York Times best-selling and multiple Bram Stoker award-winning horror author,Jonathan Maberry conspire once again to continue the battle that rages between humans and vampires in the all-new ongoing comic book series coming this May. V-Wars is set in a world transformed by a global pandemic caused by a millennial-old virus that, once triggered, affects individuals differently depending on their DNA. The result is vampires as unique as their cultures and a response from those unaffected humans like never seen before. “The vampires people used to believe in weren’t charming romantic antiheroes. They were monsters,” says writer Maberry. “Each culture had their own legends, and each of these vampires was completely different from the others; and all of them were different from the vampires in pop-culture. We went directly to the source: the myths and legends of vampires around the world and throughout history. Old-school, scary, and complicated.” Continue reading ‘‘V-Wars’ Makes Its Comic Book Debut!’

While I’m a huge Stephen King fan, Carrie is oddly one of his novels that I’ve never read for some strange reason as I think about it now. Well, that’s definitely going to get added to the bucket list. I can’t die with that on my conscious. But anyway, that kind of preludes as to why we are all gathered here today to discuss the “re-imagining” of the 1976 film I guess you can say. Now hold up! I know how people feel about the subject of re-imaginings or reboots. We’ve all been there and done this countless more times than we care to admit in the horror genre so that’s why I’m going to forgo making any and all references between this and the 1976 film that horror fans adore so much. There’s no sense in getting into any heated arguments or debates about the taboo topic. Whether you are okay with it or not, you just have to get over the fact that it’s already done and in the can so to speak. ‘Carrie 2013’ has happened and there’s nothing you or I can do about it now. Of all movies to ever take your parents to see theatrically when they are in town visiting you after having not seen you for almost a year, Bad Grandpa prevailed. I have to say. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I took them there. I was expecting the feature, judging by its trailer, to be a little bit of Jackass mixed with a true, somewhat semi-serious narrative. And I know my parents secretly were laughing at the guys’ antics when I showed them Jackass 3 before so I was just hoping they would not be disturbed or repulsed by what they were about to witness onscreen. And you want to know the kicker of it all? I believe they laughed harder than me. Ha! Go figure! Regardless of how I felt about it several months ago, the day is finally upon us when Bad Grandpa is coming home to the Blu-ray format courtesy of Paramount Media Home Distribution and now the burden lies with me to carry the cross and guide you through the following trek of a Blu-ray review. You ready? Continue reading ‘Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (Blu-ray Review)’

When John Moon (Sam Rockwell) accidentally shoots a young woman and discovers a bag full of cash, the isolated hunter becomes the hunted. His struggle to conceal both the death and the money triggers a cascade of events and encounters that ultimately escalates into a battle for survival. Here’s a film that sort of caught me of guard in that it has a great ensemble cast of actors that I like. I like every single one of them there on that cover art. Let’s hope the film delivers on the epic casting. Continue reading ‘A Single Shot (Blu-ray Review)’

44FLOOD’s first project developed with IDW Publishing is LIBRETTO, a 9×12” anthology presenting emerging and world-class artists as they explore a single theme using diverse mediums such as comics, oil painting, photography, sculpting and more. The libretto refers to the part of an opera or a musical that is the words or lyrics, and is distinct from the music. 44FLOOD’s LIBRETTO will be the “text” to the “music” that is a central theme, starting with LIBRETTO Volume 1: Vampirism coming this April. LIBRETTO Volume 1 is curated/edited by Kasra Ghanbari and has the theme vampirism, being the misuse of power, as well as the objectification and exploitation of others. Featured contributors give their unique perspectives on this theme, with many sections including an interview of the contributor conducted by another artist.
