Filled with electrifying dancing, memorable music and timeless spirit, the contagious celebration of youth FOOTLOOSE arrives on Blu-ray for the first time ever and in a new Deluxe Edition DVD, both featuring more than 30 minutes of all-new special features, on September 27, 2011 from Paramount Home Entertainment. In this beloved fable about teen exuberance overcoming rigid, misplaced morality, Kevin Bacon lights up the screen as city-boy Ren, an outsider who finds himself in an uptight Midwestern town where dancing has been banned. The film’s sensational soundtrack spawned two #1 hits: “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”, and, of course, Kenny Loggins’ rocking anthem “Footloose”, along with enduring classics such as “Dancing In The Sheets”, “Holding Out For A Hero”, “I’m Free (Heaven Helps The Man)” and the love theme “Almost Paradise”. FOOTLOOSE also stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lori Singer and Chris Penn. Continue reading ‘Get Your Groove On With ‘Footloose’ on Blu-ray, September 27th’

It has been quite a while since I’ve actually seen a film with one of my favorite actresses in it. When I got word that I would be reviewing Ceremony on Blu-ray for Why So Blu, I was pretty excited, if only for justice. I didn’t know what Ceremony was about, or who else was in it. It was just Uma! I’m easily amused. The cover art gives it that chick-flick kind of appearance, but I can honestly tell you that it is not a chick-flick in the traditional sense. In fact, even in the traditional sense, I wouldn’t classify Ceremony as a chick-flick either. Blame it on whoever created the photoshopped artwork, I guess. Anyways, enough about that, let’s get to the review! Continue reading ‘Ceremony (Blu-ray Review)’

In Italy, it was considered the ‘unofficial sequel’ to DAWN OF THE DEAD. In England, it was known as ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS and banned as obscene. In America, it was called ZOMBIE and advertised with the depraved tag line “WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU!” Tisa Farrow (THE GRIM REAPER), Ian McCulloch (CONTAMINATION), Al Cliver (CANNIBALS), and Richard Johnson (THE HAUNTING) star in this worldwide splatter sensation directed by ‘Maestro Of Gore’ Lucio Fulci (CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY) that remains one of the most eye-skewering, skin-ripping, gore-gushingly graphic horror hits of all time! Easily one of the most anticipated films due out this summer is none other than Cowboys & Aliens, starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. Also appearing in this awesome marriage of old west and sci-fi is none other than Brendan Wayne. Wayne, who is quickly tallying the westerns on his resume’, spoke candidly about his work on the film in addition to his other projects, life outside of movies and the history of acting in his family, including grandfather John Wayne. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm on my end wreaked havoc during the first few seconds of the interview, so you’ll notice an abrupt beginning. Nevertheless, Brendan saved the day dishing out his experiences on the upcoming blockbuster and other interesting avenues. Continue reading ‘Interview with Actor Brendan Wayne – ‘Cowboys & Aliens’’

While watching various Magnolia and Magnet releases they would always show a preview of a tire that killed a bird using it’s telekinetic powers. I always dismissed it, because it really didn’t say anything. It was amusing, but never caught my attention. As all of these conventions started to come to my area, and fellow staff member Aaron Neuwirth reviewed its theatrical release, I became kind of curious. I loved the poster artwork. It was pretty stylish and outrageous. Then the Blu-ray came in the mail and I got antsy. How would I go about reviewing a Blu-ray whose main star is a killer rubber tire with destructive mind powers? I’ve done my best in trying to explain and review Rubber in the following article. Enter at your own risk. Continue reading ‘Rubber (Blu-ray Review)’

I guess Tom Hanks could at least receive a “Thanks For Trying” award. Back in 1996, Hanks made his directorial debut with That Thing You Do, a film that oozes likable charm. Now, he has made Larry Crowne, a film that oozes something else. I am not sure what it is that drove Hanks to co-write and direct this film, but I can only assume that he had a lot of fun making it, because the end results don’t match up very well. One would think it would be tough to make a bad film about ostensibly nice people, all nice and having a good time, complete with a happy ending, but Larry Crowne manages to do just that. I was happy to be able to revisit Cedar Rapids. I thought it was a very charming comedy that was unfortunately only able to be seen in limited release, during its theatrical run. Fortunately, the Blu-ray for this film is now available and many can now buy or rent this sweet-natured, raunchy comedy. It helps that the disc looks great and packs a nice set of special features as well. I am not about to say that this is the best comedy of the year, but the film does have a lot of good laughs and all of the actors share great chemistry here. Certainly worth a look, so scroll on down and read a bit more about the film and this disc. Continue reading ‘Cedar Rapids: The Super Awesome Edition (Blu-ray Review)’

Transformers – Headmasters represents the missing link in the Transformer mythology for American audiences since the show only aired in Japan. The toy-line was made by the company Takara, were originally known as the Diaclone and Microman’s Micro Change toy-lines, which were re-branded as “Transformers” by Hasbro when the toys were brought to the U.S. market. Takara imported the original series to sell their toys until they felt they could do it on their own and created their own series known as Transformers – Headmasters which took place after the events of Generation 1 (More Than Meets the Eye) that aired in America. While most of the continuity from the original show was retained, there were some differences between the two such as how the Headmasters were created. Why So Blu hasn’t done a lot of coverage on gaming lately, but hopefully with the help of Wizards of the Coast, that will change quite a bit. I am thrilled that a new Matthew McConaughey movie has arrived at my door. While I love Matthew McConaughey in a completely superficial way (he’s hot), I’m glad to see that this isn’t the millionth Matthew McConaughey romantic comedy. While he does a great job as a romantic comedy lead, most of those movies are identical, and I do think that given the chance, he can really shine in a dramatic role. This movie is based on the best-selling novel by Michael Connelly which focuses on an attorney named Mitch Haller (McConaughey) that has spent most of his career defending gutter-variety criminals, until he takes on a case that could land him a real office, instead of running his practice out of his old Lincoln. Haller reaches a crisis of conscious, though, while working on the defense of Beverly Hills playboy Louis Roulet (Phillippe).

Throughout time, as far as Autobots are concerned, it has always been important to fight for what is right. I think Michael Bay believes in what is right, I really do. His more is more approach has proven to be poison from a critical standpoint, but I truly believe that he enjoys being able to deliver satisfying action and mayhem to audiences around the globe. These Transformers films have certainly given him the opportunity to do things that have not been done before and it stands to reason that the fun element has been embraced by many. This latest entry is pure spectacle through and through. It delivers (especially in the final hour) a ridiculous amount of momentous special effects, all very shiny and presented in glorious 3D. I am terrified of bugs and all things of the creepy crawly variety. In addition I have a completely irrational fear of flying things (especially bees), particularly those small enough to fly into my ear canal. A quick google search reveals that my abnormal and persistent fear of insects is called entomophobia. As a life long entomophobe, the fact that I am a loyal viewer of Billy the Exterminator just goes to show you how entertaining Billy Bretherton and family can be. I watch every single episode – event the ones with spiders and cockroaches confident in the knowledge that those scurrying little devils will soon meet their maker when Vexcon is called. They always say that films featuring the identical subject matter come in two’s. This happened in the mid 90’s with To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar and Australia’s The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. A little over fifteen years have passed since Priscilla made her debut in cinemas and she is now ready to be unleashed on the Blu-ray format! How will it fair against its contemporaries? The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert is not a traditional musical, but does feature performances by men in drag. These things are only a side note, because The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert is a lot more than just drag queens. Get on the bus and find out what all the fuss is about! Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese teams with Academy Award winners Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro in this splashy, flashy musical spectacle celebrating the glorious days of the Big Band Era in the Big Apple! Jimmy is a joint-jump in saxophonist on his way to stardom. Francine is a wannabe starlet who dreams of singing in the spotlight. When they meet, sparks fly and when he plays and she sings, they set New York on fire! It’s the beginning of a stormy relationship, as the two struggle to balance their passions for music and each other under the pressures of big-time show biz. Clear the theater, the heavyweight champ has arrived! Transformers: Dark of the Moon returns just in time to remind us just what a Hollywood Blockbuster looks like after a summer of mediocrity. Transformers: DOTM arrives in a tour de force, staying true to its cheesy comic relief, PG-13 language and sensuality, but delivering on action, action, action for those of us who can’t get enough of the hot cars and industrial vehicles morphing into warriors while driving 100mph.
