The Blues Brothers Are On A Mission From God And Will Appear on Blu-ray July 26!

Comedy icons John Belushi (National Lampoon’s Animal House, “Saturday Night Live”) and Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters, “Saturday Night Live”) star in the outrageously funny musical comedy The Blues Brothers. After the release of Jake Blues (Belushi) from prison, he and brother Elwood (Aykroyd) take their blues band back on the road in an attempt to raise money for the orphanage where they were raised. Havoc ensues as the brothers seek redemption on their “mission from God.” This soul-stirring comedy classic features unforgettable musical performances by blues legends Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway. Toga! Toga! Animal House Parties Its Way to Blu-ray this July!

Starring comedy legend John Belushi (The Blues Brothers, “Saturday Night Live”), National Lampoon’s Animal House is the ultimate college movie filled with food fights, fraternities and toga parties! Follow the uproarious escapades of the Delta House fraternity as they take on Dean Wormer (John Vernon, Dirty Harry), the sanctimonious Omegas, and the entire female student body.  Directed by John Landis, the most popular college comedy of all-time also stars Tim Matheson (Sometimes They Come Back, “The West Wing”), Donald Sutherland (The Eagle, M*A*S*H), Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Kevin Bacon (Mystic River, Footloose), and Thomas Hulce (Amadeus), along with music legends Otis Day and the Knights performing their show-stopping rendition of ‘Shout.’ Continue reading ‘Toga! ‘Priest’ Has Committed Many Sins

I want to know what happened behind the scenes during the production of this movie.  It would have to be more interesting than anything that happened in this film.  The film is based off of a very popular Korean comic series, so I would like to think that someone brought in a presentation to Charles B. Hollywood and his staff of budgeters, gave some thoughts on how he could turn this comic series into a surefire winner, and was then promptly escorted out of the building, while the execs counted the ways to make this film work to their benefit.  As a result, you have this messy piece of work that delivers many things that are “hot right now.” Continue reading ‘‘Priest’ Has Committed Many Sins’

‘Bridesmaids’ Showers You With The Funny

Bridesmaids is a very funny movie.  It is not because it tries to make chick flicks “cool” by adding a raunchy side so guys can laugh too.  It is also not because I feel I need to support this film for the sake of making women feel appreciated.  That is all bogus.  This movie is simply very funny because it has a great cast of very funny people and it is well written and put together.  Kristen Wiig, who stars as well as co-wrote the film, does great work here.  Coming from the Judd Apatow school of comedy, which has also provided us with films such as Knocked Up and Superbad, this is a film that follows in that sort of trajectory, hitting big with some great signature moments, but also having plenty of little character moments, as well as the sentimental factor. Cougars, Inc. (Blu-ray Review)

What is a “cougar,” besides being  a large cat of the feline variety that will rip you to shreds?  Well, as defined in the latest edition of the Urban Dictionary; An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man.  The cougar can be anyone from an overly surgically altered wind tunnel victim, to an absolute sad and bloated old horn-meister, to a real hottie or milf.  Cougars are gaining in popularity — particularly the true hotties — as young men find not only a sexual high, but many times a chick with her stuff together. And on that selacious note let’s get the party started, yo!  *cue the trance music* Continue reading ‘Cougars, Inc. (Blu-ray Review)’

Black Death (Blu-ray Review)

Black Death is the latest film acquired by Magnolia Home Entertainment and its Magnet (genre pictures) releasing company.  I’m starting to be a really big fan of these offerings.  They’re usually shot overseas independently and then the domestic rights are bought up.  Cool!  Black Death had already been released in Europe on Blu-ray many months ago and why I didn’t grab it then is certainly a head scratcher now.  Well, all of that has been rectified with this domestic release.  Did I mention Sean Bean is in it, too?  Sean Bean is everywhere these days and that’s a good thing.  Sit back and relax and let us fill you in on what Black Death has to offer.  Continue reading ‘Black Death (Blu-ray Review)’

‘Priest’ Offers Few Blessings

During a recent discussion with a like-minded comic book aficionado, my conversing counterpart referred to vampires as ‘cupcakes’, citing the popularity craze over both in mainstream media. Apparently cupcakes are the current hip dessert, and vampires, likewise, are the current hip supernatural flavor. With that in mind, the latest fang-bearing craze to arrive in the cinema is Priest starring Paul Bettany.  Bettany seems to be a magnet for being cast in religious films which include The Da Vinci Code and last year’s Legion.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (Blu-ray Review)

So this is an interesting situation to be in.  I feel like I am both in the best position to review the concert film/documentary about pop sensation Justin Bieber, as well as one who does not have any business to be doing so.  Similar to something like the ever-so-popular Twilight series, Justin Bieber is not someone I have any opinion about, before having seen this film.  I could recognize maybe one of his songs and knew enough from the way he is brought up in pop culture, but I do not care to hate on something for no reason.  Bieber is just not my scene.  That being said, I jumped at the chance to review this disc for a number reasons.  I am open-minded; I do have some curiosity about Bieber’s popularity, let alone how he emerged to superstar status; And I am a fan of the director of this film. Farewell (Blu-ray Review)

Farewell (L’affaire Farewell) is a 2009 French film based of off events that transpired in or around 1981 at the height of the Cold War between the United States and the former Soviet Union.  It is 2011 and Farewell, courtesy of Neo Classics Films,  has now seen the light of day on Blu-ray and DVD.  For all intents and purposes Why So Blu will be reviewing the Blu-ray release.  It’s been a very long time since we’ve reviewed a dye in the wool spy thriller, if ever, but I will go on record and say that Hollywood (or whoever) need to get back on the spy-espionage bandwagon, because if Farewell is any indication, the genre is ripe with new possibilities.    Continue reading ‘Farewell (Blu-ray Review)’

Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 5 – Kitana & Mileena (Part 2)

This week’s episode of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series continues where episode four left off. The story is still set in the realm of Outworld, continuing to deal with the backstory that surrounds Kitana and Mileena. Since this is “part 2”, the episode continues with a similar style from last week, which includes a visual style that is different from the previous episodes (particularly the low-budget grittiness of the first two), by incorporating animated visuals into the series, in order to better establish the world of Outworld, without worrying about the low budget of the series as a whole. It is a neat way to handle things, but it helps that the story is intriguing enough to have kept me entertained. This episode is unfortunately very brief, just as the second episode was, with plenty of time spent on the opening recap and end credits, leaving room for about 6 minutes of an actual episode. Still, I am continuing to enjoy what this web series has to offer, so here is this week’s episode: Continue reading ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 5 – Kitana & Mileena (Part 2)’

Don’t Judge Until You See The Lincoln Lawyer on Blu-ray

Here’s a film I don’t know much about other than the fact that I thought its trailer looked good and I was upset that I was away on a business trip when I had a chance to attend the press screening for it.  So I guess it’s redemption day when the movie of the moment hits the Blu-ray format on July 12th.  The movie I am talking about, of course, is the Matthew McConaughey law thriller, The Lincoln Lawyer.  I don’t know how many countless times my father has asked me if I saw this one yet.  I guess come this July I will finally have a “yes” answer for him.  Check out the full press release below from Lionsgate and pre-order yours now!
