Don’t Get “Sucker Punched” Into Buying a Ticket!

Leading up to the film’s release it has been very interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts on Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.  I have people in my life that very much oppose the film, going as far to say its subject matter is an abomination of the screenplay format, and others like me who can’t wait to get it on with the all-female cast.  Although I heard about the production some years ago, my first exposure to the world of Sucker Punch was at last year’s Comic-Con (see here).  The exclusive footage Snyder screened to the packed to capacity Hall H audience was riveting, mystical and orgasmic. ‘Sucker Punch’ Aims High, But Is Really A Low Blow

So this movie was a big sandbox of ideas, ambition, and disappointment.  In terms of editing, style, and structure, watching Sucker Punch was like watching a day’s worth of programming on MTV, crammed into a long, two hour movie.  It begins early with a couple music videos; it then gives us shallow, underdeveloped, yet beautiful (skimpily dressed) teenage girls – dancing, fighting, and getting into one ridiculous situation after the other; then, finally, the film tries to hit us with a deeper message, while raising the stakes to help us feel the turmoil of the main character; we also get a hip dance number at the end. Nintendo 3DS Arrives Tomorrow!

Nintendo and George Lucas have two things in common. Both are innovative and both will market something to death as long as customers keep flocking to the product. There’s good news and bad news with mentioning them.  The bad news is the rest of this article has nothing to do with George Lucas.  The good news is tomorrow the newest edition of the Nintendo DS will be released in stores as the video game giant is the latest company to jump on the 3D bandwagon.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime (PSN Game Review)

It was almost two years ago to the date when Ghostbusters: The Video Game arrived in store shelves. Both Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray had active roles not only as voice actors, but in the game’s creation. In the end, it was a sub-par game that had its moments. Recently released on the Playstation Network is another Ghostbusters title. How does it measure up to its predecessor?  It’s not an even match-up as the experiences of both are vastly different.

Homefront (PS3 Game Review)

Imagine in the year 2027 we are living in a country where all the freedoms we have fought so hard for were eliminated by a unification of North and South Korea.  Then imagine being forced into camps similar to those used in WWII by the Germans.  If you are lucky enough to not be in one of these camps, then you have to live with the fear of knowing that any moment one of the newly empowered Korean soldiers could kick in your door and take you into custody.  How do you feel about that? First There Was Sharktopus, Now There’s Dinoshark!

A Talk With Joseph Kosinski – Director of Tron: Legacy

Today I had the chance to talk with the director of Tron: Legacy and was able to ask a bunch of questions that definitely fall into major spoiler territory.  If you haven’t seen Tron: Legacy, you might want to watch it before reading this interview! Mr. Kosinski was kind enough to answer questions for three hours and his answers helped clear a lot of plot points that I wasn’t clear on.  He also talks about what changes he made to the movie for its Blu-ray release!  Read on Programs! 25 Years Later…Platoon on Blu-ray!

I often get heckled about my love for movies and having not seen some of the films considered essential classics.  One such film has always been Platoon.  Well things are about to change in my life.  No, it’s not that I can’t get enough of Charlie Sheen as of late, but instead I’m actually looking forward to not only finally seeing this movie, but reviewing it too.  How do you like those apples?  But seriously, MGM has just announced a May 24th Blu-ray release date for the movie that kick started Sheen’s career some 25 years ago. Slam Bolt Scrappers (PSN Game Review)

I have owned a PlayStation 3 for a little over a year now and this has been my first experience with a game from the PlayStation Store.  As you all probably know, some games are heavily advertised on the home pages of Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network and thus give an excellent insight into how the game will be.  Unfortunately, Slam Bolt Scrappers was not one of these heavily advertised titles and therefore I was a bit skeptical, but nonetheless, thanks to our kind PR person at SOE, I was up for the challenge.
