‘Dead Space 2’ Delivers Action and Thrills (Video Game Review)

Dead Space 2 is a fantastic follow up to the original Science Fiction/Survival Horror sleeper hit from Visceral Games and Electronic Arts.  It is not as much a significant upgrade as say Assassin’s Creed to Assassin’s Creed II, but it takes what worked very well in an already great first entry and adds little tweaks and a more diverse setting to make the gameplay and overall experience very satisfying. ‘Sanctum’ Apparently Threw All Its Good Dialogue Down A Hole

Making an underwater, 3D cave-diving thriller, with producer James Cameron in your back corner, seems like an exciting idea for a film.  Using today’s technology, there are certainly a lot of ways to come up with a well made film that can pit people up against elements such as air, darkness, and tight spaces, as they struggle to survive.  Unfortunately, nothing really helps the cause when that film is glued together by a pretty horribly written script and poor work by some of the actors involved.  Such is the case with Sanctum.  There are moments, especially towards the end, that are quite involving, but the film as a whole cannot support its nice photography and moments of actual tension with the story and characters that it provides. Jackie Belts Out Riveting Riffs, Stirring Lyrics

There are so many variables that need to come together for a band to arrive at some plain of cohesion while achieving a high level of musicality. This is where many acts falter, some even stumbling out of the gate. Then again, there are those few that persist with a fiery determination to make it work while they continue to hurdle obstacles that are commonplace in their business. Jackie is one of these diamonds in the rough.  In a league where clones and studio masking are all too common, Jackie casts those weights aside to show what originality and talent sound like.

An arctic-like wind wasn’t the only blast that hit the north coast of Ohio this past weekend.  Rocktagon MMA was the architectural force behind another rocking and bone-crunching mixed martial arts event.  The fight card featured twelve bouts of jarring MMA action, two of which were title fights.  Read on to find out the results of the evening as well as our interview with the up and coming Dave Vandevelde.  Continue reading ‘Canadians Thrive in Latest Rocktagon MMA Event’

Take a Trip With The Tourist on Blu-ray

Lit: HOB Anaheim 10 Year Anniversary Series (Review)

You know you’re getting old when you can remember where you were ten years ago.  Me, I was at the grand opening of the House of Blues in Anaheim in Downtown Disney.  Why was I there?  Lit was there.  Lit were opening up the venue with two sold out shows Friday and Saturday night.  If memory serves me correctly.  I was there and so was my entourage.  It was a great double header and kicked off what would be one of the more popular and intimate venues for live music in Orange County.  Fast forward this to the 10th Anniversary, and here we are.   Continue reading ‘Lit: HOB Anaheim 10 Year Anniversary Series (Review)’

Hatchet II (Blu-ray Review)

Is it just I or has way too much time elapsed between when we last talked about Hatchet II here on the site?  Hmm…I thought that to be the case.  I mean come on, we only mentioned the film here, here, here, here and oh yeah…over here too.  Well don’t worry my little monsters (oh God….the horror…someone please shoot me…I’m talking like Lady Gaga!).  There’s enough of Victor Crowley to go around to combat everyone’s withdrawal symptoms no matter how intolerable they may seem. I Spit On Your Grave – 1978 (Blu-ray Review)

WhySoBlu is proud to present the original I Spit On Your Grave. Consider this a double whammy of sorts since we’ve already brought you a great review of the 2010 remake by our very own Gregg Senko (read here).  I’ll go ahead and introduce the film just like it says on the box. “This woman has just chopped, crippled, and mutilated four men beyond recognition…but no jury in America will ever convict her!” Now if that’s not great advertising then I don’t know what is.  Continue reading ‘I Spit On Your Grave – 1978 (Blu-ray Review)’

‘The Mechanic’ Provides A Few Spare Parts For A Quick Time Killer

Those in need of a new, quick action fix from Jason Statham should be pleased enough with The Mechanic.  I would give it a barely passing rating.  However, this recommendation is not really due to the movie being that good (it’s not really), nor because of the presence of modern action hero Jason Statham (although that helps).  No, I would recommend this movie mainly because the ending is ridiculous enough that I want others to see it so I can talk to them about it, since I don’t want to spoil it here.  The film, itself, is a straight-forward action movie, with a hitman at the center of the story and the added bonus of a “buddy film” element.  It’s fairly generic, but also silly fun, and fills the quota for brutal violence.  Do with that what you will.
