Well to conclude a whirlwind week of Blu-ray news I only have two topics of discussion today. First up, Magnolia has announced that they will bring the 2008 BBC film Is Anybody There? to the Blu-ray format on November 17th. The film stars everyone’s favorite, Michael Caine. The last item on the agenda refers to an email I got from Amazon today. It seems that another New Line title has been delayed in September. The release date for 2003’s The Texas Cahinsaw Massacre Blu-ray has been pushed back to September 29th. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…August 21, 2009’

Well, we obviously know already what the big news story of the day was in the world of Blu-ray so let’s move on. Ha ha…I made it sound like there is a lot, but there really is not. I only have one other piece of Blu-ray news to report on today. And here we go…(in my best Heath Ledger Joker voice)! Making this the second time a Blu-ray title will be available before their DVD counterpart, Dreamworks has revealed Imagine That will be released on October 6th. The BIGGEST news of the day belongs to Paramount Home Entertainment. They announced an October 20th Blu-ray release date for their summer blockbuster Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Whether you loved or hated the film, there’s no denying that this will be a colossal-sized seller on the young Blu-ray format, much like its predecessor, and of course, there’s always the sexual appeal of Megan Fox making young boys hit puberty faster around the globe. I’m sorry for the late hour in which today’s daily Blu-ray news is being posted. I just got back from my third DLP screening of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. I sat there like a kid mesmerized with a new lollipop as Sienna Miller’s Baroness character sprayed bullets like a bad-a#$ in every which direction. What an awesome way to spend an evening! Oh well…YES!…The daily Blu-ray news! The best news of the day, in my opinion, especially since I only have two items to report on is that Universal has issued a press statement announcing a Blu-ray release date of October 13th for Sam Raimi’s Drag Me To Hell. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…August 19, 2009’

Wow! How do you go about topping the news of the new PS3 Slim and the $100 price drop? The answer is really simple. You don’t. There was not much going on in the world of Blu-ray movies today so let’s cut to the chase and get down to business. First up, Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced a November 10th Blu-ray release date for both the Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Belushi action film Red Heat and the Bill Paxton teenage vampire love story Near Dark. Both titles will be presented in glorious 1080P and will feature a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio surround track. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…August 18, 2009’

If you scout the vendor floor at Comic-Con, you’ll find your senses under attack from all possible angles. There are authors, artists, filmmakers, celebrities, store owners and big companies all trying to attract your attention with a barrage of advertising and showcasing. It’s easy to miss something when you are out and about in this area of the San Diego Convention Center. Nevertheless, there was one particular booth that did successfully capture my eye without the need of someone convincing me to step closer. I first saw the trailer for The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, starring Jeremy Piven, in July. Based on what I saw, I had no desire to see this film. The whole speech on the plane that Piven gives about the alleged right to smoke on a flight is just hokey to the Nth degree and completely fake. I know, what’s wrong with me? I can suspend disbelief and watch cars transform into robots, but when someone convinces a stewardess that he should be allowed to smoke on the plane, I can’t buy into it. District 9 has been called a lot of things over the past several weeks. It has been said that the movie will blow your mind and that it is the must see movie of the year by Entertainment Weekly. Harry Knowles of Aint It Cool News has gone on record as saying he was mind f*#ked by the movie. Heck, when last checked today, the film even held an A- rating by both critics and users on Yahoo! Movies. So why do I feel like the bearer of bad news and in the minority here? That’s because I am. Continue reading ‘Brian Questions Whether District 9 Really Does Blow Your Mind?’

Today was a little busier on the Blu-ray news front, but not by much. First up is a release I am not sure even needs to be made, or mentioned for that matter, but this is the news. Universal Studios has announced that they will re-release the musical Mamma Mia! as Blu-ray gift set on November 10th. Are you ready for this? The title is simply, and I am being sarcastic, Mamma Mia! The Movie – Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! More Blu-ray Gift Set. It will come with extra stuff. Yada, yada, yada…you get the point! As my title implies, this movie should be called A Not So Prefect Getaway. Bam! Wow! What a way to start off a movie review. I guess the pressure is off from me having to craft and write three acts to this story, as you all know where this review is going and how it is going to end. Now that the cat is out of the bag, let’s spend a few moments dissecting why A Perfect Getaway will not see its second life on my Blu-ray shelves. Continue reading ‘A Not So Perfect Getaway’

The 6,000 seat capacity Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center was the location for the Kick-Ass discussion panel. Yes I’m being serious and if the ‘me’ from two weeks ago is like most people out there, then we are on the same page in not having a clue what the rather blunt title refers to. Truth be told, it started out as a small independent comic from creators Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Now it’s a full-fledged film featuring the likes of Nicholas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad, Role Models) and Aaron Johnson (The Illusionist). Well, for the second day in a row, it has been real quiet on the Blu-ray news front. Probably the most exciting tidbit of information I want to share with my readers today is something that is near and dear in my heart. Although no formal announcement has been made from Fox, Amazon is now showing a November 17th release date, posetd on their website, for the Blu-ray release of David Fincher’s Fight Club. I cannot wait for that one to come out! The only other Blu-ray announcement today comes from Sony. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…August 13, 2009’

Well because it is my wedding anniversary today I plan on keeping this short, and it’s a good thing too because there is not much to report on today, in the world of Blu-ray. The only news I have for my fellow readers today is that Disney has set a Blu-ray Proposal date. The romantic comedy, The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds will hit the Blu-ray format on October 13th. The Proposal will debut with a 1080P AVC video presentation accompanied with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio surround track.
