I really wanted to see Antebellum when it came out, but I wasn’t frisky enough to head to the drive-in and the price tag on the rental for something I knew I’d probably be reviewing in a few short months was a bit high. Nonetheless, here it is and on a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray disc release nonetheless. Good things really come to those who wait. Lionsgate releases the film on November 3rd and its a surprisingly loaded with some quality bonus material (Feature length documentary) and Atmos sound. If you’re going to take it in at home, this is quite the way to be able to do so. The film has proven quite divisive, but trusted colleagues of mine have been on the minority end of it and loved the movie, so I’m optimistic going in. How’d it turn out? Well, you don’t usually find that out in the intro paragraph, but you’re not far from knowing. Its out now, and you can pre-order yourself a copy of this 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray edition of Antebellum by clicking the paid Amazon link following the review.

That time of year is upon us again, as we take a look at films that have still yet to arrive on Blu-ray in the year 2020. Looking ahead to next year, there are STILL so many terrific and worthy films of the format upgrade. Things seem to be shifting too, and we are in a spot where the home video landscape is pushing more toward the collector than ever before. Aside from Disney, the studios seems to be recalibrating their efforts in bringing more titles and better versions of those titles to our players. Paramount especially has been active this year with both its Paramount Presents label and just getting some stuff the hell out regardless (IE: The Two Jakes, Private Parts). The independent studios are getting the reigns on bigger titles and the studios themselves are putting in a bit better effort. Sony is killing it with polling collectors for the Columbia Classics line which hopefully becomes an annual set. I ask those who cry out to proclaim the death of physical media regularly, then why am I increasingly happier and happier year in and year out? Continue reading ‘Brandon’s Blu-ray Wishlist For 2021!’

4K BLUsday returns on election day in the United States (Please get out and VOTE). A rather ho-hum release day in terms of both announcements from the past week as well as movie coming out today. Still there is plenty to be excited about. We are about to enter that weird late December through February period where the studios aren’t going overboard after their big holiday releases hangover. On the YouTube Channel I have our Full Metal Jacket contest winner as well as a new contest for a digital code of 2019’s The Addams Family animated film. Please note, that code is an iTunes exclusive and not redeemable through other digital services. Listen to the podcast, watch the video, more details below!

Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection is going to be one very unorthodox 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review. You want to know why? I hope you do as I didn’t just set that up for nothing. It’s simply because this one whopping big box set that houses a total of 33 Discs (23 BD-100s, 7 BD-66s, 3 BD-50s). Wow! That encompasses all 8 seasons of the hit HBO show that plays across 73 episodes, which equates to roughly 75 hours. If that’s not enough, there’s also 15 hours of extras packed within this set. Now do you know why I say this isn’t your average 4K Disc review? I hope so. And rest assured I’m going to do my best to cover everything you’ll find here, but I’m only a mere mortal. You’ll have to forgive me as I’m not going to be able to go through all of this. Thankfully I have covered every Blu-ray release of the show so there’s that and I’ll be providing you pertinent URL links to all the coverage so you won’t miss a beat here. On top of it all you can also bank on my unboxing photos. I told you I have you covered! Continue reading ‘Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)’

The sequel to Back To The Future is a rare one that for some even eclipses the original. There is a new story with a somewhat familiar premise, but overall has a different feel to the original. The stakes as always are higher, and the cliffhanger ending is one that made the film’s fans crazy for the next installment. If ever there was a reliable franchise, Back To The Future was it. Check out more in depth on Back to the Future Part IIbelow and be sure to click the (Paid) links below to get your copy of this incredible set!

Early in the summer, during the tough month of June, I had a bright spot and small escape in the form of a DVD of all things to review. It was the first season of one of my favorite sitcoms from the 1980s finally getting put out onto home video 34 years after it first hit the air (Paired up with another all time favorite, Perfect Strangers). Said sitcom being the Howard Hesseman-led high school set Head of the Class. When I went through it, I was happy to find that the show still held up. My hope was that Warner Archive Collection would not stop and continue to put out all five seasons of the show. Good news, we are now officially 40% of the way through the series being on DVD as the second season arrives on October 27th. Unfortunately, no bonus materials again, but its nice to have ownership of this terrific little show.

Oddly enough, it appears I’ve become the de-facto “Tremors guy” here on Why So Blu. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy these goofy little camp classics (Some of them). But, I’m not super deep into lore and rewatches aside from the first one every so many years. But, I find myself writing a review for a third direct to video sequel in the series. And I’m not mad about that, they are what they are and they really do know what they are doing. Feels like back handed praise, but I’m not sure how else to put it. The latest is title Shrieker Island. Of course, it brings back Michael Gross, but Jamie Kennedy has opted not to return. Instead, he’s been replaced by Jon Heder (Though as a different character). What could Burt Gummer be up to now?

One of the most banner years for cinema was 1999. There were so many great and notable releases in that year that its pretty unbelievable to take in. Liam Neeson happened to be in two big releases that summer. Unfortunately for him, they happened to be two films that weren’t very well received. In addition to Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Neeson also starred in Jan de Bont’s reimaginging of The Haunting of Hill House and Robert Wise’s 1963 film of the same title. Paramount Presents asks that we take another look at this film, twenty one years later, as they debut it for the first time on Blu-ray as part of the Paramount Presents collection. On top of having a new transfer, the film will also feature a brand new interview with director Jan de Bont. It arrives just in time for some Halloween viewing on October 20. You can order yourself a copy using the paid Amazon Associates link at the end of the review.
