Dirty Grandpa – Unrated (Blu-ray Review)

Dirty Grandpa Blu-ray ReviewThere was something a bit subliminal that drew me into eventually reviewing Dirty Grandpa on Blu-ray.  Maybe it was partly my love of Bad Grandpa (see my review here) or my loss of my own grandfathers in real life, but it could have also been that ingenious swag Lionsgate sent over too (see below).  You pick.  However, I do miss my own grandfathers.  The one was very wise and I wish I would have listened to him a lot more.  He had a lot of valuable life lessons that went in one ear and completely out the other.  And after taking in Dirty Grandfather for the very first time, I could totally see my other grandfather nailing De Niro’s role.  That’s the kind of “dirty,” lovable guy he was.  R.I.P. guys. Where To Invade Next (Blu-ray Review)

where to invade coverPeople familiar with Michael Moore are aware he can be a polarizing figure. The other thing to keep in mind is how surprisingly charismatic and affable he can be. While he has made his views clear in past films, there is often plenty of humor to be found as well. This is what works best about Where To Invade Next, an enjoyable documentary that does a lot to keep Moore’s views somewhat in check, while he travels the world to look at how other countries function.

Deadpool (Blu-ray Review)

deadpoolThis year features a variety of superhero films and it turns out one of the wildest, offbeat ones will remain one of the year’s biggest hits. Yes, while the world deals with the various universes being created by Marvel Studios and Warner Bros., Fox has been plenty confident in this break from their X-Men films to deliver a fourth wall-breaking smart ass who supposedly changes what superheroes are all about. That is not quite the case, as Deadpool is about as straightforward as it gets (with added blood and swearing), but there is fun to be had. Now the film arrives on Blu-ray for you to get closer than ever to him.

Joy (Blu-ray Review)

joy coverCredit goes to writer/director David O. Russell for building a film around Joy Mangano, the woman who invented the Miracle Mop. It may be a surprise for some going into the film Joy, given how vague the marketing was for the film, but that’s a tricky subject to tackle. This clearly proved to be true, as star Jennifer Lawrence certainly puts her all into the lead performance that earned her another Oscar nomination, but the film is not quite a rousing success compared to Russell’s previous efforts. Now Joy has arrived on Blu-ray for a wider audience to look out for.
