Taking a nostalgic look at one of the greatest baseball teams and most memorable seasons in the game’s history, 61* spotlights the summer of 1961, when Maris and Mantle chased one of the most hallowed baseball records ever – Babe Ruth’s 1927 single-season mark of 60 home runs. In the spotlight of the press and at the mercy of public opinion, Maris and Mantle paid a high personal price for doing what they did best, when what should have been a season of triumph turned into a nightmare. Ultimately, it was their deep friendship and mutual respect that saw them through their historic pursuit. 61* refers to the asterisk that baseball commissioner Ford Frick affixed next to any season record set after 154 games (by 1961, the American League has expanded to a 162-game schedule). The “distinctive mark” showed that it had taken Maris 162 games to break Ruth’s 154 games record. It was not until 1991 that the qualifier on Maris’s achievement was lifted. This week’s episode of the web series adaptation of the Mortal Kombat video game, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, finishes what the previous week’s episode started. Having pitted two fan favorite characters, Scorpion and Sub Zero, against each other in last week’s episode, seeing the conclusion of that match must have certainly been anticipated by the fans of this series. Seeing as how only five minutes, not including the previous episode recap and the end credits, have been given to the actual episode, this was a quickly paced episode that brought out some of the goods in true Mortal Kombat fashion. Signature moves were used, techno music was utilized, and some other key characters made an appearance. Enjoy: Continue reading ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 8: Scorpion and Sub Zero (Part 2)’

On May 28th, at the K1 Speed Indoor Racing facility in Gardena, California, I was able to witness the Celebrity Go-Kart Tournament, which brought forth a number of stars helping to produce awareness and show their support for the American Diabetes Association. Many stars, both young and adult, along with their families, were willing to come out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and race for awareness, while also have a fun time for the sake of a good, charitable cause.
