The idea behind Southside With You was to make a date movie featuring a notable couple. Removing future context beyond the idea of knowing where things will eventually end, this story of the first date between Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson is about seeing two people coming together based on curiosity and attraction to one another. Using a “one long day” format, the film is all about capturing performances on camera and making the chemistry play cinematically. It works well enough and the film can now be seen on Blu-ray by anyone looking for a modern romance.

We all need someone to look up to – though these may not be the guys! But if your New Year’s Resolution is to laugh more in 2017, then you won’t want to miss out on Vice Principals: The Complete First Season which will arrive on on Blu-ray and DVD (both with a free digital download copy) on February 7, 2017. Created by Danny R. McBride and Jody Hill (creators of HBO’s Eastbound & Down, along with Ben Best), this acclaimed new HBO comedy series tells the story of North Jackson High School and the two people who almost run it, the vice principals. McBride and Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified) star as the school administrators, who are in an epic power struggle to become school principal. 
I know I’m in the minority here, but I loved this simple flick. It goes a little something like this. He’s not your average accountant. Discover his secrets when The Accountant arrives onto Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray DVD and Digital HD. Oscar winner Ben Affleck (Argo) stars in the title role of The Accountant, from director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle, Pride and Glory, Warrior). Fox Home Entertainment announces this morning the home release of its wildly imaginative fantasy adventure, “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” arriving just in time for the holidays on December 13th. The arrival includes availability on Digital HD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD & DVD and will be fully loaded with two hours of immersive content to delight fans. The Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD versions of the film include a variety of special features, and a limited edition DVD is available with a unique collectible “Stay Peculiar” bracelet while supplies last.
After taking December off, Vestron Video is getting back to work in January. The first 2017 releases from the hot new cult release label with be the horror comedy Parents and the Ken Russell film The Lair Of The White Worm. Both were hotly requested titles for years and ones that most people just sort of accepted would never get to Blu-ray. Well, pigs are flying and they are flying high as these will be getting the coveted suped up bonus feature treatment when they release on January 31st. Lionsgate is really doing great work here and hopefully people are showing their appreciation with their wallets for them to continue. I also hear we are in for a big treat in February, though I don’t know what it is.

Four weeks to go until we see the first of the three planned Star Wars “spinoff” films, Rogue One. This film about the band of Rebels and spies that steal the plans to the Death Star, kicking into motion the original film, is the kind of spinoff I’m more eager to see from these than younger versions of characters’ we’ve spent many films with origin stories (Though I must say, the Han Solo film is doing and saying all the right thing and seems to be having all the right people). This one features some good footage and behind the scenes, and while being a bit of a softball, still manages to get me really pumped for the film. This is a film that has a lot of questions as what its going to be like. For instance…how does the film open? An opening crawl? They’ve said there’s probably not one. So, then how? These and more questions will be answered on December 16th (But, lets not be silly, we are all going to see it on the 15th). 
Here’s one I saw in the theaters and I liked quite a bit. So this is what it’s all about. Questioning everything she knows, a woman must face her terrifying past in the wake of a darkly mysterious event to piece together the truth in the provocative thriller, The Girl on the Train. Based on USA TODAY’s 2015 Book of the Year and the #1 New York Times Bestseller by Paula Hawkins, the suspense comes home when The Girl on the Train arrives on Digital HD January 3, 2017 and 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand January 17, 2017 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and DreamWorks Pictures.
