In my early days I was a pretty big fan of BBC’s spy show The Avengers. No, I’m not even close to old enough to have seen it when it originally aired. When I was a kid they used to show reruns of it on A&E. I was at a spending the night at a friend’s when I was in Elementary school and his older sister was watching a marathon they were doing and we joined in and were hooked. You may ask why they are starting with Season 5 and not Season 1? Well, then you probably don’t know the history of the BBC’s old catalog. A lot of old episodes of their televisions series, like Doctor Who, have been lost forever because at one point they went to their vault and started recording over their backlog tapes of shows to save space and money. One of the few shows that survived this was Monty Python’s Flying Circus thanks to Terry Jones swooping in and purchasing every episode at the last minute. They are also likely starting at Season 5 because it was the first one in full color. And who can’t wait to see Diana Rigg as Emma Peel in full high definition gorgeousness? With this week comes the end of Scream Factory’s “Summer Of Fear”. But in two week’s they’ll be switching gears to their “Fall Frights” slate which itself is another rock solid list of film jumping to Blu-ray beginning with Pumpkinhead. Today’s details come on one of their October titles, Jeff Lieberman’s Squirm! Here’s another cult classic horror movie get the ultimate in Blu-ray treatment. Lieberman directed one of my favorite slasher films of all time, Just Before Dawn. This one is also another treat and feature goopy gorey makeup effects from none other than Rick Baker. Magnolia is release the punk rock story WE ARE THE BEST on Blu-ray. I’m not too familiar with this film, but am intrigued by the setting of a start up girl punk band in Stockholm during the 1980s. If anything there should be a good sense of style and energy with the costuming, sets, hair and music on display. Magnolia has more for details for you, and I have a pre-order link for you below.
