Confession. I missed out on Neighbors when it hit theaters a couple months ago. Just didn’t work out for me. But, I’m excited as ever to see it when it drops on Blu-ray in a few months. I have heard nothing but positive about it. I was also a member of the fraternity with which they are basing their jokes off of in college, so I’m excited to have some laughs at myself as well. Cohort Aaron Neuwirth reviewed and liked the movie quite a bit, so that has me looking forward to it too. Anyway, details below, this drops on Sept 23!

I have to admit, I was a huge fan of Heavenly Sword back in the early Sony PlayStation 3 days when this game made its debut. The graphics and gameplay were simply amazing and till this day it’s still one of the games I managed to keep in my very small PS3 collection. But low and behold people…a deity is reborn in the fantasy film adaptation, which I heard so much about already, on Blu-ray September 2nd! I cannot be the only one excited for this title, can I? Well, if you don’t know what Heavenly Sword is all about, then I suggest you take this time to review the below press release and find out everything you need to know! Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is the hotly anticipated comic book space adventure, from director James Gunn, starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Bradley Cooper & Vin Diesel as the voice of a talking raccoon and tree creature. Marvel thinks this is crazy enough to work and dammit if I (and movie geeks everywhere) are not at least curious as well. Michael King (Shane Johnson) doesn’t believe in God or The Devil. Following the sudden death of his wife, the documentary filmmaker decides to make his next film about the search for the existence of the supernatural. Michael decides to make himself the center of the experiment – allowing demonologists, necromancers, and various practitioners of the occult to try the deepest and darkest spells and rituals they can find on him – in the hopes that when they fail, he’ll once and for all have proof that religion, spiritualism, and the paranormal are nothing more than myth. But something does happen. An evil and horrifying force has taken over Michael King. And it will not let him go. Dale Dickey (IRON MAN 3), Tomas Arana (GLADIATOR), and Julie McNiven (Mad Men) co-star in this intense supernatural spine-tingler from the producers of WHITE NOISE and THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to not only see the new Richard Linklater film, Boyhood, but attend a press conference for it, featuring writer/director Linklater, along with stars Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, Ellar Coltrane, and Lorelei Linklater. Boyhood was shot intermittently over the course of 12 years, as the story follows a boy, Mason (Coltrane), from 6 to 18-years old, and depicts his life with his family along the way. I will have a review of the film posted later in the week, but this post contains the highlights from the press conference, along with the audio from it. Continue on to learn more about the film, the stars, Linklater’s filming process, and more!

There is going to be a lot of ‘Apes’ talk this week. We at Why So Blu were big fans of the 2011 re-imagining of the Planet of the Apes franchise, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes set to be released on July 11th, we are very much excited for what this entry will have to offer. With that said, a number of deal on Amazon are going on right now, which includes an awesome low-price for the original Planet of the Apes series on Blu-ray. It is not only very cheap, but comes with movie cash to use for your ticket to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The other films, ‘Rise’ and Tim Burton’s remake (if you dare to go down that road) are also fairly cheap as well and also come with movie cash. Continue on to get your hands on these deals, while they are going on!

Following the previous (and great) teaser trailer, we now have a full theatrical trailer for director David Fincher’s (Se7en, Zodiac, The Social Network) upcoming 2014 film, Gone Girl, based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn. After The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it seems that Fincher is fine with adapting popular pulp novels found in grocery stores, but I am not one to complain, if he at least continues to make these films entertaining via his visual and directorial style and stocked with a great cast. This film features Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Kim Dickens, Scoot McNairy, Patrick Fugit, and of course, Tyler Perry. Continue on to see the new trailer along with four new teaser posters from the film.

I look forward to seeing The Walking Dead’s presence at Comic Con this year, as they always have pretty elaborate set ups on the showroom floor, let along super popular panels. A few years back I was happy to participate in The Walking Dead Escape. This is The Walking Dead-themed obstacle course that takes over San Diego’s Petco Park during Comic Con. It is a ton of fun to run away from zombies, let alone admire the zombie makeup creations on regular folk who are apparently happy to go after geeks running through a baseball stadium in full on zombie makeup for hours at a time. It is returning to Comic Con once again this year, along with several other stops around the country. Read on to learn more, including details on deals for signing up early!
