The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (Blu-ray Review)

The People v. O.J. Simpson coverIn the beginning, the idea of producer Ryan Murphy being involved with a spin-off series of American Horror Story titled American Crime Story, with a focus on the O.J. Simpson murder trial for the first season, seemed risky to say the least. Now you put in a fantastic ensemble cast, use Jeffrey Tobin’s bestselling novel, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson as a framework for the story and relegate Murphy to merely a director on a few episodes and you have a much better chance of making something worthwhile. As it turns out, not only was The People v. O.J. Simpson good, it is one of the best seasons of television this year and certainly worthy of its 22 Emmy nominations (as of this posting). Now the series in on Blu-ray for many to dig into.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

TMNT Out of the Shadows 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray ReviewEver since it was announced way back when that the beautiful, thumb challenged, mother of three Megan Fox would star as April O’Neil in an all-new live action adventure/reincarnation feature film of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I knew things were completely on the right path.  Cowabunga!  I was so right!  While the 2014 outing was rather silly and probably inconsequential to the survival of the TMNT brand as a whole (the Nickelodeon cartoon carries it alone), the end result was helluva lot of fun to be had (see my movie review here).  So it’s with great joy, giddiness and absolutely no exacerbation that I in an unbiased fashion tackle the green subject matter contained within this review, the sequel to the 2014 Paramount hit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, with the utmost of care, caution and precious handling.  After all, these are cute, little green turtles.  But who we kidding?  These turtles love to kick arse!  Turtle power! South Park The Complete 19th Season (Blu-ray Review)

South Park 19 ThumbAlright everybody, listen up. The best full season of “South Park” in the 20 years of the show’s existence has arrives soon on Blu-ray and it is a must watch for fans, ex-fans, and non-fans of the series alike. Making their first foray into a serialized style, where the season has a full arc and things are carried over from one episode to another, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have crafted a work of hilarity and thoughtfulness. There is so much to like about what this season means for the series and for the four foul-mouthed little boys from that sleepy Colorado town. ‘Yoga Hosers’ Is A Skippable Midnight Movie Mess (Movie Review)

yoga hosers 1As one who has let his teenage fandom of Kevin Smith grow into continual admiration, as the New Jerseyan writer/director has forged a new career centered around podcasting and various forms of public speaking, in addition to occasionally making films, Yoga Hosers feels like another test. Following the walrus-themed horror-comedy Tusk, his latest features finds Smith directing his focus on his daughter and her best friend (Johnny Depp’s daughter). One can respect a parent for going to such lengths, but the resulting film is still just not very good.

Forgotten Friday Flick – “Dressed To Kill”

Forgotten Friday FlickHaving kept the love of all things De Palma going again this week (me and my kid were first and second in line winning free meals for a year from Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers – Lithgow’s multiple personalities would be proud!) in anticipation of the soon to be released doc on Blu-ray, I’m keeping the cinematic retrospective going too – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick!  This time out we’re going with a film that gave plenty of movie ammunition to naysayer fans of previous master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock.  Chocked with everything from a famous female icon used as a big part of the plot twists to the sexuality of characters being called into question, some say this was De Palma’s artistic ode to Psycho, some say a carbon copy.  But for the fans who love the film it’s simply called…Dressed to Kill!
