One of the main questions going into Jason Bourne was not in regards to the story, as these films largely fall into a template at this point. No, the question to ask is what random tool would Matt Damon’s amnesiac/super would spy use to beat down his challengers. There is an answer to that question and more in this follow-up to 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, which reunites Damon with director Paul Greengrass. The series may have shifted to a new character the last time around, but for those who wanted more of the character originated in novel form by Robert Ludlum, this film delivers just that.

Based on the popular 1990s cult comic book series of the same name, the critically-acclaimed PREACHER: SEASON ONE arrives on Blu-ray™ and DVD October 4 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The darkly comedic, hard-hitting, supernatural thrill-ride follows Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper, TV’s “Agent Carter,” Captain America: The First Avenger) who, after a supernatural event at his church, is thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between. Along with his hell-raising ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga, World War Z, TV’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun, This is England, TV’s “Emmerdale”), Jesse embarks on a wild, dark journey of discovery and revenge unlike any other.

In addition to the superhero spectacular, last Saturday Warner Bros. also gave Hall H audiences a taste of magic. Muggles were treated to the trailer for the next J.K. Rowling adventure, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Set in New York during the 1920’s, the trailer definitely shows the glamour and intrigue of a good mystery during the era. With David Yates directing, I’m sure the film will live up to the expectation of adventure and fun Harry Potter fans are longing for.

Released today, Monstress Volume One is the latest and greatest from Image. Featuring blistering artwork from renowned artist Sana Takeda(X-23, Ms. Marvel) and a dense and richly packed story from the brilliant mind of Marjorie Liu(X-23, Black Widow). Monstress is one book you’ll want to get your hands on. I found myself blown away by the awe-inspiring complexity of Takeda’s beautiful artwork. I was immediately compelled to picked up a special edition hard copy at Comic-Con this year. Powerful, compelling, and chock-full of complex characters, Monstress feels like all the best parts of Final Fantasy, Game of Thrones, and Shadow of Colossus all rolled into one behemoth of a book. If you have any inkling of interest in this book pick it up immediately! Continue reading ‘SDCC 2016: Montress Volume One’

Grant Morrison is one of the most iconic, accomplished writers in comics today. Beyond having written The Invisibles, All Star Superman, New X-men, Final Crisis, The Filth, and many more, he has also been the focus of a documentary, Talking with Gods. Further still, he wrote the enlightening book, Super Gods: What Masked Vigilantes, Miraculous Mutants, and a Sun God from Smallville Can Teach Us About Being Human. Recently Morrison has delved into Indian mythology, and spearheaded the publishing company Graphic India. I was lucky enough to hear him speak about it. Audiences were given an introduction to Marvel’s Luke Cage already on the Netflix series Jessica Jones. This allowed Mike Colter to already make an impression as the character. However, this September, Luke Cage arrives on Netflix and looks to be kicking plenty of butt. That’s just one of the things Marvel and Netflix showed off at Comic-Con however, as there was also a first look at Iron Fist, as well as a teaser for The Defenders, which will combine all of these Marvel heroes from Netflix series into one team-up series. Check out all the trailers below.

Here’s a film I’m very much interested in seeing get produced. Its Zombinatrix! My pal Bianca Allaine is trying to get it off the ground and like most independent films these days, is taking it to horror and film fans in general to help with some production costs as this one is being paid for out of pocket. But she’s got a sweet deal. When you help donate at least $25, you are going to receive an awesome limited edition T-shirt with artwork designed by Jimmy Giegerich of Baltimore’s own Pizza Party Printing. Keep on reading for some pictures, information and a link to hurry up and go snag yourself a shirt before they are all gone!

Star Trek Beyond promises us one thing going in, a departure from J. J. Abrams’ direction. It of course delivers more, but my main concern was what kind of adventure are we in store for? For too long now I hear complaints from longtime Trekkies upset over the direction of the first two films. Most notably, many dismiss the second film as blasphemy. Rightfully so, but as a new fan to Star Trek I find myself quite fond of Into Darkness (review here). However, with Star Trek Beyond longtime Trekkies are singing songs of praise about this one. From what I hear, they love how closely it reminds them of the old television series. Therein lies the problem for me, but more about that down below. Today, during the Warner Bros. panel in H Hall, trailers and upcoming sneak peeks submerged audiences in the DC Comic Universe. From Suicide Squad to Justice League, the audience was mesmerized and dazzled by the good (and bad) guys who fight evil. However one DC superhero definitely stood out from the rest, none other than the Goddess Diana herself. Unveiling the much anticipated trailer to adoring fans, the director (Patty Jenkins) and cast the of Wonder Woman revealed much more than footage, but reasons why the world needs Wonder Woman and her story told now more than ever.

Okay! So like I needed a third reason! While I’m holding up the home front here in Austin, TX while my peers are living it up at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 today in Hall H, videos like this that Warner Bros. just released online make it a good time to be alive. After all, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is my favorite film of the year so far as indicated here and here. So why the heck shouldn’t I be happy with our new Comic-Con Hall H look at the Suicide Squad Official Comic-Con Soundtrack Remix trailer? That’s a rhetorical question. I’m flippin’ ecstatic! Every team needs a group of meta-humans and criminals to pull it off when ordinary mortals can’t. Excuse me while I go change my pants for the third time now. Ha ha!!!
