SDCC 2015: FEAR the Walking Dead

SDCC 2015FEAR the Walking Dead followed The Walking Dead panel, naturally, and proved to be quite interesting at that. Chris Hardwick blesses us again as the moderator of this panel. This is an interesting one in comparison to the other’s in Hall H because we are meeting the cast of FEAR the Walking Dead for the first time.

SDCC 2015: The Walking Dead

2015-Comic-Con-ArticlesI watched the first season of The Walking Dead and never really cared enough to return, but I’m considering watching the newest season, premiering October 11th.  Of course Chris Hardwick was the moderator for the panel, which included Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Steven Yeun, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira, Greg Nicotero, Lennie James, Lauren Cohan, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz, Scott Gimple, Gale Anne Hurd, and Dave Alpert. The CellIn this science fiction thriller, child psychiatrist Catherine Deane (Golden Globe-nominee Jennifer Lopez “Selena,” “Maid in Manhattan”) has developed a technique that allows her to travel through the minds of her patients. When Stargher (Emmy Award-nominee Vincent DOnofrio TV’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Full Metal Jacket”), a serial killer who methodically drowns his victims and performs bizarre rituals with their bodies, falls into a coma, FBI agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn “Wedding Crashers,” “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”) asks Deane to enter the killers psyche in hopes of finding the location of a missing girl whom Stargher has kidnapped and, if she isn’t found soon, will drown in her torture cell. Roller Boogie (Blu-ray Review)

Roller-BoogieRoller Boogie is the film that asks: can a classical flautist and a roller skating dude find true love and happiness in the California sun while boogying on skates to 70’s disco tunes? Roller Boogie stars Linda Blair (The Exorcist) as Terry Barkley, a genius flautist (and Juilliard hopeful) and Jim Bray (real life roller skating phenomenon) as Bobby James, a maniac on skates with all the right moves and his sights set on becoming an Olympic Roller Skater.  Roller Boogie, with its amazing choreography and on-the-skate-floor acrobatics, is directed by Mark L. Lester (Class of 1984), from a screenplay by Barry Schneider, features a soundtrack stuffed with disco tunes including Hell On Wheels performed by Cher, The Roller Boogie written by Mavis & Bob Esty, Boogie Wonderland written by Jon Lind and Allee Willis and the Bob Esty & Michael Brooks song Summer Love.  Continue reading ‘Roller Boogie (Blu-ray Review)’

Ghost Town (Blu-ray Review)

Ghost-TownThe good. The bad. The Satanic. Scream Factory proudly presents the Empire Pictures classic Ghost Town on July 28, 2015 in its Blu-ray debut.   A dusty ghost town, seemingly abandoned, holds the lives of its original inhabitants in an animated netherworld for 100 years.  Starring Franc Luz (The Nest, When Harry Met Sally), Jimmie F. Skaggs (Oblivion, Puppetmaster), Catherine Hickland (Witchery) and Bruce Glover (Diamonds Are Forever, Chinatown, Walking Tall), Ghost Town is an unnerving, white-knuckle walk into the wild, undead west. SDCC 2015: Doctor Who

SDCC 2015Chris Hardwick from The Nerdist sauntered onto the stage in Hall H to introduce the cast of Doctor Who which included: Peter Capaldi (The Doctor) Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) Michele Gomez (Missy) and last but certainly not least Steven Moffat writer and producer of Dr. Who — we all know his work doesn’t stop there. If your a Sherlock fan you have his talents to thank as well. If you’re me that’s a whole portion of my life, I digress.

SDCC 2015: Hunger Games Panel

SDCC 2105The Lionsgate Panel truly delivered when it came to Hunger Games Mocking Jay Part 2. The panel started with four men in white military style suits banging on drums very dramatically. They started to filter down the aisles and the hall filled with loud rhythmic drumming that started as soon as it stopped and Hall H went black. A small message hit the screen saying,”Stand by for a message from District Thirteen.” The crowd which was deathly quiet started to tingle and cheers started to erupt. The Drumming that was previously playing blared through speakers and the crowd was ecstatic!

SDCC 2015: Open Road Panel HALL H

SDCC 2105Hall H began with a bang with Bill Murray sauntering down the middle aisle to the tune of “Smoke on the Water.” Of course he received a standing ovation, not only because he’s Bill Murray, but also because it was his first Comic-Con appearance. Joined by “Rock the Kasbah” screenwriter Mitch Glazer, they were comfortable, funny, and very charming. Murray joked that his collaboration with Glazer includes Glazer writing and Murray re-writing.

‘Minions’ Is Just Colorful Noise (Movie Review)

xminions-uk-quad.jpg.pagespeed.ic.TnuMPCmQ-3It has happened. The Minions now have their own film. Admittedly I am not a Minions fan. I have seen both Despicable Me films and have not been fond of their antics. A whole film about them is not exactly something that was going to rock my world, but I am happy to give everything a chance. Now having done so, my opinions haven’t changed. Additionally, even while not being a Minion-lover, there really isn’t much of a film here for those super excited for it. For those without kids looking to enjoy an animated comedy, Minions does little to justify its existence beyond being 90 minutes of colorful noise. Surviving San Diego Comic-Con 101

Comic-Con SurvivalIt’s that time of the year.  What a glorious time it is!  The excitement’s practically in the air!  Can you smell it yet?  The spotlight is once again on one of the most beautiful cities in the United States, San Diego, CA!  Like that Beastie Boys’ song, “No Sleep Till Brooklyn,” the same can be said for your experience at Comic-Con International, the largest annual gathering of geeks like me in the world.  How sweet it is!  Movie stars, comic artists, cosplay, vendors, movie studios, exclusives and so much more all vying for your attention and awaiting you for five mind blowing days!  I have been going to Comic-Con ever since 2009 and each year it keeps getting bigger and better.  However, that doesn’t mean it gets less chaotic at all, quite the contrary.  Every year it seems more crowded and packed, and if you want to see anything in Hall H, at least Thursday through Saturday, be prepared to camp out overnight.  For these reasons and more I put together some tips below culled from my personal experiences that will hopefully get fellow Con goers this year the maximum bang for their buck.  Good luck! STAR WARS Anthology Series Continues With A Han Solo Adventure!

Star Wars Anthology Han SoloAlright so here’s some big news that just came across my desktop in the past hour.  The next adventure in the Anthology series of Star Wars films will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, whose credits include the critically acclaimed The LEGO Movie,  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street.  Among the most sought-after filmmakers working today, the two have proven a formidable duo in film and television and are looking forward to applying their unique sensibilities to the Star Wars Universe.  While I’m not overly excited for a Han Solo “solo” film, I am at the possibility of what fun Miller and Lord will make with this project.  So bring it on and let the good times roll!  Check out the rest of the press release down below.
