There is only so much to say about movies like In The Blood. It is a thriller that had minimal exposure upon its initial release and will live in the realm of streaming and cheap Blu-ray bins. That said, as far as these fairly straight-forward action vehicles for lower-profile stars and fun character actors go, In The Blood is a fairly enjoyable experience that constantly rides the line of ridiculous and too ridiculous. Gina Carano continues to find her place as both a professional butt-kicker and as an actress, but even when she struggles, the film has enough going on to make it a decent distraction.

Wow! What can I say about this feature(s) that hasn’t been said before. There’s a million and one ways I can spin this. Am I curious about it? Hell yeah I am. Am I scared of it? Honestly, I am a little bit. I really don’t know what to expect except (those two words look so weird together) a whole lot of nudity. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing is it? Haha! So we all know that Lars Von Trier’s controversial Nymphomaniac: Volume I and Volume II is coming to Blu-ray, but now we also know what to expect in the releases too this July 8th, which coincidentally is my dog’s 13th birthday (with hopefully many more healthy ones to come…knock on wood). So while you get busy by clicking on the pre-order link below make sure you check out the bonus supplements below too! Enjoy! Of course when I heard there was a slasher musical I jumped on top of it. I’m looking forward to revisiting this one as I was sort of lukewarm on it the first time. The film starts off on fire and is everything you were wanting to to be when you hear about a musical slasher film. But, then it tails off and just keeps digging itself down a less interesting hole. Magnolia is bringing it to Blu-ray on July 8th, so you can pre-order it and read the details of the release in the little blurb they sent me below!

Here’s a movie I was really looking forward to in 2014 and then I wound up not even seeing it in theaters. I figured being something coming from a person off of the Nolan tree it had a chance. I still can’t pass a judgement the film as I’ve not seen it myself, but I never heard one positive thing regarding it. So, I decided I would wait to see it when it came to Blu-ray, which now means I’ll be seeing it sometime around or before July 22nd. The announcement for the film and its specs, as well as that groovy pre-order button are below!

Jared Harris and Sam Claflin star in the terrifying thriller, The Quiet Ones, arriving on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD), DVD (plus Digital), Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View on August 19 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. The film will also be available two weeks earlier on Digital HD August 5. This thriller sort of came and went quietly back when it was released theatrically. I think it may have been overshadowed by the hit film Oculus just a few weeks prior. Anyway, a more detailed description of this release follows below!

While seeing How to Train Your Dragon 2 was a neat departure for the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival, it seemed fairly in line with the fest to watch a film like Gremlins on the big screen. The holiday-horror-comedy classic celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year and fans were treated to both a screening of the film, as well as a Q&A with its director and horror-comedy fan-favorite Joe Dante. Dante talked about the surprise hit that Gremlins became, the making of the film, a possible reboot, and other things that don’t come anywhere close to nitpicking the rules of the Mogwai.

Hero Complex is essentially a genre media-themed offshoot of the Los Angeles Times newspaper and they have been holding a film festival in Hollywood for the past few years. While the films screened are always classics from the past, this year featured a screening of How to Train Your Dragon 2. I will post a review of this film soon, but following the screening, a Q&A was held with writer/director Dean DeBlois and stars Jay Baruchel (Hiccup) and America Ferrera (Astrid). The trio had plenty of admiration for a series they have heavily involved themselves with for the past seven years and were happy to share their thoughts.

Well, not only do we get The Winter Soldier on September 9th, we also get its companion, Marvel’s television spin off Agents Of Shield. The show had a lot of promise when it was announced, but boy, it got pretty terrible, a chore to watch and I just kept with it “because” (and my wife was big time into it, so I couldn’t escape it if I tried haha). But, then, The Winter Soldier happened and suddenly things got actually interesting with the show and I was eager to watch how it was going to finish. I don’t know if it can keep it up for season 2, but I’ll stay optimistic because pessimism is neither fun or a healthy way of living. So yeah, September 9th and the details on the release are below if you continue reading! Continue reading ‘Marvel’s AGENTS OF SHIELD Season 1 Coming Sept 9!’

I’m a day late this week, but I’ve had an eventful week to say the least (my second child and daughter, Noli, was born on Monday!). But hey, I wanted to make sure I got in one last summer double feature for my May edition of the Blu-ray wishlist series. We’re going in the realm of 90s straight to video this week.

Let’s let out a collective “Hail Hydra” as Disney and Marvel have announced the Blu-ray release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This terrific political thriller disguised as a superhero film easily won over audiences not too long ago and piled on the dough at the box office. Personally, I quite loved the film and the Captain America portion of the Avengers tales have easily been my favorite of the bunch. This is also the last we’ll see of an Avenger in a live action Marvel film until Age Of Ultron next summer. But we’re also promised Captain America three years in a row as Captain America 3 comes out the following summer. Below you’ll find all the details on this exciting release that I can almost guarantee will razzle and dazzle as well as spice up your player a bit on Blu-ray.

On the surface, placing audiences inside the head of one of the more memorable Disney villains of all time seems like a pretty interesting idea. Add to that a casting choice that has rarely seemed any less perfect and you have a high concept Disney film with built in appeal from multiple standpoints. I only wish the film actually delivered more fun to go along with its premise. Maleficent no doubt delivers on the visual noise one would expect from a big budget, live-action fantasy film and Angelina Jolie’s return to the big screen, in front of the camera for the first time in 4 years, is certainly the most worthwhile aspect of the film, but for a film with so much to look at, there was not enough going on to keep it engaging.

Scream Factory keeps rolling out the underrated gems. On August 26th they’re giving us the ghost tale Legend Of Hell House starring Roddy McDowall. This will cap off their, frankly amazing, “Summer Of Fear” that they’ve been just rather acing. It will lead us all into a Fall that will continue their remarkable run. But today, its all about the Hell House. You can find the dirty details on this haunting release below!

The surprising thing about Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West is how devoted to the genre it actually is. While I can only think of so many western comedies offhand, there are plenty of ways to turn the genre on its head and have a lot of fun with it. MacFarlane is happy to dive into that well, but while making fun of the genre, he appears to really respect it. The issue then becomes how to make a film that looks like a western and sounds like a western into a film that is entertaining for the audiences showing up, based on the goodwill created by Ted or Family Guy. Unfortunately, while MacFarlane is known for his comedic abilities, the laughs are not nearly strong enough to go along with a film that admirably spends its time on recreating the feel of a western, while rooting itself in character.

Here comes another one of those big time saves from Scream Factory. The 50s monster movie throwback film, Deadly Eyes never made it past VHS until now. While not their biggest format jump/save/resurrection this summer (just wait), it certainly is super cool. It gets to make the jump to prestigious Blu-ray. I’m not familiar with the film, but it sounds pretty fun. Today they’ve unveiled the specs including new bonus features for the film that entail a slew of new interviews with the cast and crew of Deadly Eyes (including Happy Birthday To Me and Curtains’ Lesleh Donaldson!!!) . This one comes out July 15th as a part of the “Summer Of Fear” and you can pre-order it below as well as get the full rundown from Scream Factory.
