KISS Goes Solo!

Echoing their famous series of 1978 solo albums, this March, legendary rockers KISS take to solo adventures in a new miniseries from IDW Publishing! Further exploring the deep mythology that’s made the Kings of Rock hold dual citizenship as Kings of Comics, this year, The-Four-Who-Are-One must take up arms alone against a slew of dynamic enemies and evil forces. Spread out across four dimension-shattering issues, this face-melting slew of hard-rocking comics tectonics kicks off with KISS SOLO: THE DEMON, a tale starring Gene Simmons’ classic alter ego, The Demon! Veteran KISS writer Chris Ryall and fan-favorite Kiss artist Angel Medina, rejoining the band for the first time since Kiss: Psycho Circus, weave another tale of epic bombast and explosive rock and paving the way for the accompanying tales of the Starchild, the Celestial, and the Catman!  Continue reading ‘KISS Goes Solo!’

GI JOE: Retaliation Trailer – Round 2

I know I wasn’t the only person bummed that GI JOE: Retaliation was abruptly moved a whole 9 months later from its original June 2012 release date all the way to this March, for a 3D post-conversion no less (with plenty of rumors surrounding other behind the scenes fiddling).  Regardless, the newest trailer for the upcoming action-packed sequel has hit the interwebs and still looks to be a lot of fun.  Continue on to check out the trailer, as well as the brand new poster for the film.  Go JOE!

Compliance Judges Your Morals on Blu-ray This January

Finally!  I get to talk about one of my favorite movies of 2012.  And it’s as simple as this.  Compliance asks the most primal of questions in life.  How far would you go?  How far would you go to prove your innocence?  How far would you go under the direction of the law?  How far is too far before you question your own morals and scruples?  Okay.  Well, maybe it’s not that simple after all, but I’ll tell you this.  It makes one hell of a great feature that I can’t wait to revisit again on January 8th.   So acquaint yourself with this gem’s trailer and synopsis below, pre-order a copy and make sure to check out our exclusive interview with Compliance‘s producer Tyler Davidson over here.  Enjoy! Django Unchained: A Fistful Of Tarantino (Movie Review)

Admittedly, this review may be more straightforward than others, because Django Unchained has been my most anticipated film of the year and it managed to deliver in every respect. Much like Bond films, a new film by Quentin Tarantino is very much an event for me. I get really excited, rewatch his past work, and wait in eager anticipation for what is coming very soon. Django Unchained is the kind of film that Tarantino has been building to, based on many of his previous films, which incorporate many western elements. This is a film that is rooted to the atmosphere of spaghetti westerns, but true to Tarantino form, feels like a genre film unto itself. It is just as much a Blaxploitation film as it is a western and it just as much a comedy as it is an action-thriller. The dialogue and colorful characters are of course a highlight, but there is certainly plenty going on in this lively western opus from the mind of Tarantino.

Gregg’s Worst Films of 2012

I don’t remember being as disappointed by movies during the course of 2012 than I was in any other year. I mean, there were some genuinely terrible productions released this year. Now I try and see as many films as possible, but this time around, I eventually had to put the brakes on because of the seemingly incessant waste of time and money I was spending on them. It wasn’t quite big enough for a top ten list, but it came awfully close.  Doom on you, Hollywood.  You screwed up a lot this year.

Ted (Blu-ray Review)

A foul-mouthed, hard-partying teddy bear and his 35-year-old best friend come together in the #1 comedy of the year, Ted, available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on December 11, 2012, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.  Directed by Seth MacFarlane, creator of television’s uproarious and irreverent hits “Family Guy,” and “American Dad,” Ted stars Mark Wahlberg (Contraband, The Other Guys), Mila Kunis (Friends with Benefits, Black Swan),  Joel McHale (“Community”), Giovanni Ribisi (Contraband, Avatar) and Seth MacFarlane as the voice of Ted.  The film’s all-star cast also includes “Family Guy” favorites Jessica Barth, Alex Borstein, Ralph Garman and Patrick Warburton, as well as Sam Jones (Flash Gordon), Multi-Grammy Award-winning recording artist Norah Jones and newcomer Brett Manley.  When I saw Ted in the theater, I gave the film a 4.5/5.  I’ve yet to award a 5/5 so a 4.5 is pretty rare coming from me.  Many people agreed it was a good film but were surprised how high I rated the film.  Sometimes, you just love a movie and I happened to love a movie about a foul mouthed talking teddy bear and his pot smoking best friend, and I still do. Silent Night (Blu-ray Review)

In 1984, the slasher classic Silent Night, Deadly Night stunned audiences, was banned across America, and remains the most notorious Christmas movie in history. Now, Santa is back, and he’s got a brand new bag of tricks. As their small Midwestern town prepares for its annual Christmas Eve parade, Sheriff (Malcolm McDowell of Rob Zombie’s Halloween) and his deputy (Jaime King of My Bloody Valentine 3-D and Hart Of Dixie) discover that a maniac in a Santa suit is murdering those he judges as ”naughty.” Their sins? Porn, adultery, greed… And he will make sure they rest in heavenly pieces. Donal Logue (Shark Night 3D, Blade ), Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World ), Lisa Marie (The Lords of Salem), and Brendan Fehr (CSI: Miami) co-star in this brutal and darkly humorous tale of Christmas gone bad.  Continue reading ‘Silent Night (Blu-ray Review)’

MIB3 Movie Touch First-Screen Immersive Experience Now Available

This year has seen the release of several apps related to the big blockbuster films of the year.  Films like The Avengers, The Dark Knight and The Amazing Spider-Man have all gotten apps that directly relate to their Blu-ray releases, giving viewers the ability to sync up their smartphone or tablet devices to their Blu-ray players and access all sorts of exclusive content.  It has been an interesting sort of experiment in terms of making the home viewing experience more interactive for the viewer.  Now Men In Black 3 has been given similar treatment, but in a slight twist on the idea, the Men In Black 3 Movie Touch app allows you to only view all the exclusive content, while watching the film on a portable device of some kind.  Given that I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed Men In Black 3 (Review HERE), I was happy to try this experience out.  Continue on to learn more about the details of the MIB3 Movie Touch app.

Stephen Sondheim’s Company (Blu-ray Review)

Set firmly in, and often about, New York, Company follows five married, once married, or soon to be married couples and their mutual friend, Robert, a 35 year old bachelor who has been unable to connect in a long-term relationship. The relationships are presented in a series of vignettes, primarily through Bobby’s eyes, so that we see the less than ideal aspects of commitment. However, it is obvious to the audience that the committed are happy. Eventually, Bobby learns that while relationships aren’t perfect, they are a necessary part of “Being Alive.” Continue reading ‘Stephen Sondheim’s Company (Blu-ray Review)’

Two More Blu-rays To Add To The Woody Allen Collection This January

On January 15, 2013, two more of Woody Allen’s film will make their way onto Blu-ray for the first time.  Sleeper and Hannah and Her Sisters are the films making their Blu-ray debut and both are wonderful films from writer/director Woody Allen.  Sleeper is a hilarious comedy based around the idea of Woody Allen’s character waking up 200 years in the future and discovering all that is new, not new, and just plain wrong with the world.  It also features Diane Keaton and is full of Woody’s witty sense of humor, along with plenty of his talents for physical comedy.  Hannah and Her Sisters is a comedy-drama revolving around a problematic family and all that occurs over the course of one year.  It also features Oscar winning performances by a wonderful Michael Caine and Diane Wiest.  Again, both films arrive in January, read on to learn more about these upcoming releases.
