After The Sixth Sense, I believe that Signs may be M. Night Shyamalan’s biggest success to date. The creepy aliens-on-earth story struck similar emotional chords at The Sixth Sense did and gave Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix some excellent moments of acting. Now the film is 22 years old, so I wonder – Does the film have the same impact that it did in 2002? The first film released in VistaVision and a HUGE spectacle in 1954, White Christmas is undoubtedly a staple in many film fans’ holiday viewing queue. For me, White Christmas started as the movie my mother would show us to make us nod off on Christmas Eve and now is the one I can’t wait to watch as soon as Thanksgiving ends. By no means am I a video game afficionado. I can honestly say the last game I played was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on a PSII that I HAD to have. I had other games, but I only ever played this one. I wasn’t very good at the game and my attention span for gaming had never been the best. Despite my distaste for gaming, I still am easily aware of video games and Borderlands is a series of games that I know of. Don’t ask me anything about it though, but the title, I know for sure! All kidding aside, I was intrigued when Eli Roth’s film adaptation was announced. With a huge cast of recognizable talent and what seemed like a nice sized budget to make something big and fun for the spring, I was immediately ensconced when I saw the negative press and the abysmal box office returns. I don’t know about you, but I really missed Wolverine. I missed that gruff, hard, yet lovable X-man! I was in tears when he met his fate at the end of Logan and thought that was that. When the worlds of Deadpool and Wolverine were to collide in the appropriately titled Deadpool & Wolverine, I was ready to run to the nearest theater to see the film. And then I didn’t. Now, arriving home with a lovely DOLBY VISION 4K UHD Blu-ray from Disney/Sony, I have been able to witness the chaotic wonder of the film. The prospect of a slasher film told primarily from the killer’s perspective was intriguing. Hearing about In A Violent Nature, the reactions some have had, particularly to some of the kill scenes, let alone the assumed divisiveness given the pacing, had me geared up to take this high concept in and enjoy it. Fortunately, there’s a lot to like about what writer/director Chris Nash is going for. On top of that, this is a pretty stellar release from IFC Films and Shudder, complete with a solid transfer and tons of extras.

Nostalgia abounds when I watch movies from my childhood. The Addams Family and its sequel Addams Family Values are a lot of fun. Macabre and dark but still somehow light and comforting, the films work so well even 30+ years after their release. The 2021 4K release of the first Addams film was wonderful and then collectors waited to see when the second film would receive its inevitable release. Now just in time for Halloween we get it!
