Is Ed Helms the nerdiest guy in Hollywood right now? I mean he’s the nerd-in-residence on The Office, he played the nerdy dentist in the hit comedy The Hangover, and now we get Tim Lippe, insurance salesman and nerd extraordinaire in Cedar Rapids. Tim Lippe is an innocent, wide-eyed, naïve, sappy guy, who LOVES the idea of providing people with their perfect insurance package. He lives for this stuff. Anyway, the premise of this movie is that Tim gets the chance to go to the annual insurance convention in Cedar Rapids, and he’s really never even been out of his hometown. It will be a day long remembered! The Star Wars Saga will be back in theaters next February in 3D starting with Episode I – The Phantom Menace and followed by the rest of the legendary series! I know some people will inevitably complain that it will be in 3D but the conversion is being supervised by ILM and George Lucas personally and it will look fantastic I’m sure. Besides, does it really matter? This is the Star Wars movies back on the big screen where they belong!

First things first. Guy Pearce rules. Okay, with that out of the way, our friends over at IFC Films have been generous enough to share some information with our readers about their newest thriller called In Her Skin. In Her Skin is the story of a young girl who obsesses over another girl before committing the ultimate unspeakable act. Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto play the parents of the missing girl and Sam Neil plays the father of the girl with the problems. In Her Skin looks intense and I’m expecting a great performance by Guy Pearce and all of those involved. Continue reading ‘IFC Debuts “In Her Skin” Trailer’

On October 13, 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the Andes Mountains with forty-five passengers aboard. Due to pilot error, their flight plan and position was incorrect which led search patrol to look for survivors in the wrong area and eventually to abandon the plane and passengers as lost. Left to survive on their own, the ill-equipped survivors had to survive in one of the most desolate places in the world and make choices that no human being should ever be forced to make in order to survive.

Has it already been twenty five years since the coming of age story Stand By Me hit theaters? Time flies doesn’t it. Well, it only took twenty five years for Stand By Me to hit the Blu-ray format, but here it is at long last! I also have a confession to make. I’ve never seen Stand By Me before. Yeah, I know. I knew of it, and I knew who was in it, but never saw it. I know that Monster Squad was a horror version of Stand By Me. Does that count? This will be an adventure for all of us. Norman Jewison’s Moonstruck paved the way for other culturally focused comedies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding where the story revolves around a large family who loves, fights, and eats together. In this case, the movie is about the Castorini family, an Italian brood that sticks together despite some problems which include infidelity, curses, and more. Gulliver’s Travels has a great cast with Jack Black, Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, and Amanda Peet who star in this classic tale of a regular guy who travel to the land called Lilliput where he is a giant among them. This version seems to be very family friendly and I’ve read that they created a new process of filming in 3D so I’m curious to see how it turned out.

Quite honestly, I’m not sure how many people are going to spend their time reading this review or care that I’m so passionate about this title. It’s a shame too. Most of the same people who put me down for liking this are the ones that get upset because I never saw “this” or “that.” Let’s see. How does the old saying go? I think it’s “to each their own” or something like that. Anyway, this review is for me. It’s a celebration of a film I really enjoyed last year. It’s a delicate time in my life when I will take my “man card” out of my pocket momentarily and lay it on the table as I write this and truly could care less if you hate this film or not.
