Hidden by darkness. Guarded by witches. Discovered by a boy. Stolen by a King. Whoever owns it controls the world. Or destroys it… That was the original tag line to Disney’s 25th animated release of one of my all-time favorite Disney movies. This was such a different kind of Disney film that a lot of people thought that it was too dark, especially after following The Fox and the Hound, but that darkness and the fantasy aspect to it is what made me want to see the movie so badly. This video spoof was brought to my attention via Adam Green and I thought this would be an appropriate outlet to share with all the geeks here, oops…I mean readers. The Geeks and Gamer Girls music video was made by Adam’s beautiful wife Rileah and stars her geeked out friends Michelle Boyd, Clare Grant and Milynn Sarley. The Katy Perry parody was directed by Dave Yarro and also stars the lovable Stan Lee, Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff and the hilarious Seth Green providing the Snoop Dogg-like vocals. Check it out! Continue reading ‘Geek and Gamer Girls Song (The Music Video)’

Even Comic-Con only showed just a prototype costume of Cap for the upcoming 2011 film starring Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving. As of this week, a photo has been released of an Evans stand-in in the decked out WWII Cap costume. Fans have been waiting with cautious trepidation as to what the final threads will look like. The fourth installment in the strangely popular Resident Evil movie series, based upon the original Resident Evil video game series continues to baffle me in its ways of being fairly unimaginative and derivative, yet still managing to get a pass from audiences. But this time it’s in 3-D! After a brief recap, utilizing the first of many, many slo-mo sequences, making sure that we understand that the world has been overrun by T-Virus infected zombies, the film picks up closely after the end of the third film, with Alice (Milla Jovovich) having both fully realized her enhanced powers and discovered that the evil Umbrella Corporation has a whole fleet of clones of her in one of their underground facilities. If you count 2003’s Past, Present & Future and 2006’s 20th Century Masters: Millenium Collection: The Best of Rob Zombie, then I guess you can safely say this is Rob Zombie’s third greatest hits album on the Geffen Records label. But who cares? This is Rob Zombie! Even if he put his own line of dog food out there I would buy it all. But really, you are all probably wondering what’s so different about this third compilation album? I know I was. So if you have a few minutes, I would like to show you around Rob Zombie’s Icon 2, in stores now. Continue reading ‘Rob Zombie’s Icon 2 (CD Review)’

For those 8.9 million Disney Channel Movie premiere viewers who made Camp Rock a huge success, here comes the sequel you’ve been waiting for…Camp Rock 2! All of the elements that made the first one so popular have returned – The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and a new talented group to round out the cast. I’ve never seen the first movie but thanks to my son’s love of the Disney Channel, I’ve seen plenty of music videos and clips of the movie to be familiar with it. It was like fate when I came home today and received this email. Adam Green’s Frozen film had been on my mind all day and I really just can’t wait to sit down and watch this one already, on Blu-ray of course. Our good friends in the PR department over at Anchor Bay passed along a clip from the Blu-ray extras of Frozen, available on Blu-ray September 28th. For some, that date can’t come fast enough! Rest assured, the cold temperatures will be upon us soon. Continue reading ‘A Sneak Peek at Adam Green’s ‘Frozen’ on Blu-ray’

Here’s a remake of a 1978 classic that was recently brought to my attention over the weekend by Why So Blu fellow writer Gerard Iribe. I seen this titled advertised all over Comic-Con this past July, but totally forgot to look into it. Well thankfully I was able to get my hands on the full press release from Anchor Bay and wanted to share that with you as well as the film’s intense trailer. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to I Spit On Your Grave this October. Check it out! Continue reading ‘Anchor Bay’s ‘I Spit On Your Grave’’

Ah…my good friends over at Sony Pictures Classics really know how to make my day brighter. Just when I did not think it could possibly get any better (I’m being facetious of course), this press release email comes across my desk. Say what you want about the film, but the fact that Gemma Arterton is the star here has Day 1 purchase on Blu-ray written all over it for me. Check out the full press release, poster art and trailer from Sony Pictures Classics below. Continue reading ‘Tamara Drewe’s Official Trailer and Poster’

A decade before the incarnation of Saw, the crime thriller Seven (stylized as Se7en) “saw” its reign in the theaters some 15 years ago in 1995. My God, has it been that long? And honestly, I remember really liking the film, but for some reason I never revisited the film again. Must be a lack of time thing. Yeah, that sounds about right. Anyway, that’s all in the past now and when I got the call to review the Warner Home Video catalog release, I took the plight despite all the other work I am currently buried under. All of the elements that made the first one so popular have returned – The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and a new talented group to round out the cast. This time, a rival Rock Camp opens up across the lake and rivalry develops between them. Of course that means war between Camp Rock and the snobby Camp Star and the returning cast from the first movie are back to help Camp Rock win. Let me start by saying Danny Trejo is awesome. The fact that we are living in a time where he is headlining a movie is great. Trejo has gone from boxing in San Quentin to becoming incredibly prolific, appearing in well over 100 films. He has served mainly as a memorable, tough Mexican in roles ranging from Navajas in Desperado to one of De Niro’s men in Heat to a bartender in Anchorman. Having a movie like this, with Robert Rodriguez’s direction and a very varied cast involved is wonderful. Continue reading ‘Machete – He Gets the Women & He Kills Bad Guys’

When I was looking through the list of potential press screenings I could attend a few weeks ago I came across a title that instantly grabbed my attention, Going The Distance. Now, when I think of the title Going The Distance my mind immediately drifts to against all odds films like Rocky and such. I tend to put a lot of deep thought into the meaning of words, more so than the average person, so imagine my surprise when I found out that Going The Distance was actually the name of a romantic comedy starring the real life couple of Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. Continue reading ‘‘Going The Distance’ is NOT a ‘Rocky’-like Film :-(‘

It’s safe to say that this is one of the most successful periods for comic books. Not only are there multiple storylines of the same character all taking place at once, but they’re selling out all at once, calling on the writing and artist talent out there to deliver more. Such success has allowed smaller press companies to get their foot in the door and get their high quality titles out to vendors. One such example is the horror-filled Moon Lake from Archaia Black Label. Continue reading ‘Moon Lake Graphic Novel No Placid Swim’
