It’s kind of safe to say that Marvel Studios owned Hall H Saturday evening, for obvious reasons. First up was everyone’s favorite American hero…none other than Captain America. Chris Evans (Captain America himself) took the stage along with co-star Hugo Weaving (The Red Skull). The crowd’s roar was almost deafening as they premiered the first-ever teaser trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger. It was not enough to give insight as to whether or not the movie will be any good, but it definitely served to whet my appetite. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Captain America: The First Avenger’

Yep…you read it correctly. Machete the film will have its own comic book. September 2010 will go down in history as the month of the Machete. The film hits theaters September 3rd. The Machete comic book will be released two weeks later on September 15th. This special #0 comic will serve as the Machete prologue to the film. It’s also expected that Machete will have a short series run of five issues 1-5 at some point in December. Continue reading ‘Robert Rodriguez Presents: Machete…The Comic Book’

I was excited when I got the word that I would be reviewing Mother, the new film by Bong Joon-Ho, writer and director of the amazing genre-bending film The Host. In the past few weeks I’d seen various promotional material about Mother which included stills and the trailer. After watching the trailer, I made the assumption that Mother was going to be a straightforward murder-mystery. Even the theatrical trailer makes it seem like it’s a straightforward murder mystery tale. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Continue reading ‘Mother (Blu-ray Review)’

This was the panel I came to San Diego for. If there was one Comic-Con 2010 panel I was not going to miss, it was this one. It would be the chance for me to see my favorite childhood action hero in real life, Slyvester Stallone, and I was not going to miss it for the world. After we got done with the Tron Legacy press panel, another highlight from the Con (here), we hiked over to the convention center and waited in line for over an hour to get into the place where all the action was going down on Thursday, July 22nd, Hall H. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: The Expendables’

Some critics have heralded the Swedish film Let The Right One In as one of the greatest vampire flicks ever. While I would not personally go that far, I will say it is pretty damn close. What is the best vampire film of all time in my opinion? Let’s not go there. Let’s save that topic of discussion for a rainy day. So anyway, we find ourselves back in crowded Hall H on Saturday, July 24th for another panel that was a must-see in my itinerary. The cast and filmmakers of Overture Films’ Let Me In descended upon the Hall H stage shortly after 1:30 PM. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Overture Films’ Let Me In’

After months of ad campaigns asking film-goers, “Who is Salt?,” only to be met mostly with a response sounding like, “who cares?,” it’s safe to say that the actual film does answer that question, and also manages to be a pretty effective action thriller. However, it does go into some hardcore ridiculous territory, but I appreciated Jolie’s work as a super spy, along with the very high stakes this movie presents. The solid, over-the-top action matches and sometimes diminishes the ridiculous story. Continue reading ‘A Pinch of ‘Salt’ Leads to Some Wild Action’

The Blu-ray/DVD panel is a new fixture at the San Diego Comic-Con, annually hosted by Bill Hunt from TheDigitalBits.com. The panelists include Cliff Stephenson, known for his work on the Rambo Blu-ray, Charles de Lauzirika, responsible for assembling content on the Transformer (films) Blu-rays, Brian Ward from Shout Factory, Javier Soto, who has worked with Guillermo del Toro, and finally Todd Doogan and Adam Jahnke. If you enjoyed the first two Family Guy Star Wars spoofs (Blue Harvest and Something Something Dark Side) like me, then you will love the final installment in the saga, It’s a Trap! I’ve always been impressed with how much effort the Family Guy team puts into matching the source movies down to the smallest details such as the escape from the Death Star scene from Star Wars where the Millennium Falcon evades a TIE Fighter. Even the editing is dead on accurate which thrills the inner Star Wars geek in me. Continue reading ‘Family Guy’s Star Wars Spoof ‘It’s a Trap!’ Comes to Blu-ray’

One panel after the infamous stabbing incident on Saturday, July 24th at Comic-Con 2010, Jon Favreau came enthusiastically running out onto the Hall H stage and grabbed the microphone as he woke up everyone in the crowd with his zest and energy. What a fantastic moment that was. Anyway, he then went on to bring out the 007 Agent himself, Mr. Daniel Craig. The place went crazy like a rousing crowd at a horse race track. Right before the infamous stabbing incident happened in Hall H on Saturday, July 24th, I was treated to another favorite of mine, Milla Jovovich and Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Afterlife. Milla’s battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights when Alice dukes it out in “real” 3-D, not the fake kind. Writer/director Paul W. S. Anderson treated us with a 3-D presentation of the film’s trailer and a really kick-a$$ clip from the movie. Wow! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Resident Evil: Afterlife 3-D’

Capping off my adventures at Comic-Con 2010 on Friday, July 23rd, I settled into a 4th row seat within room 32ab for the Hatchet II panel hosted by writer/director Adam Green. I’ll be honest; I attended this primarily to get an up-close glimpse of the beautiful Danielle Harris (a favorite of mine from the old and new Halloween franchises), but as I listened to the brilliant Adam Green speak, the inspiring filmmaker in me could not help but try to absorb every word of wisdom he had to say. When this movie was released in 1989 it I don’t remember hearing about it and I’d never seen it until now. At the time of this movie’s release, Mickey Rourke was near the beginning of his career freefall after a decade of hits. After this movie failed, his rollercoaster career began which is a shame because he did some good work in this movie. It all has a happy ending however, as The Wrestler brought him back front and center and he just played the main villain in Iron Man 2 so it will be interesting to see where his career goes now. Another Comic-Con is in the history books as Sunday saw the big event wind down and come to a close. Before the staff of Why So Blu packed their bags and were on their way, there was still time to gather last minute pieces of information. For all you Spider-Man readers out there, I have some interesting news that will fill the pages of Marvel’s most heralded title come this fall. Continue reading ‘Comic Con 2010: Spider-Man Comics’

Most of the time it pays to be a member of press at Comic-Con, but not when it comes to the lines. We must stand in the same lines as everybody else. And so was the tale of our early 7 AM departure on Saturday morning to get the first glimpse of Green Lantern footage before anyone else does. Was it worth standing in line for over 3 hours before getting into Hall H? Hell yeah, you better believe it was! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: DC Comics’ Green Lantern’

Although Gregg Senko kind of reported on all things Hall H yesterday, I have a slew of photos from every panel that I wanted to share with all our readers. First up, is the surprise event of the night, maybe even a lifetime, depending upon who you are talking to. As we were beginning to leave the press area and people were starting to file out after the encore presentation of the Thor trailer, Mr. Samuel L. Jackson unexpectedly took the Hall H stage and the place erupted in cheers and shouts. But wait! There’s more! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Marvel Studios’ Avengers’

For the second straight year in a row now, Ballroom 20 was packed full beyond capacity with fans of Alan Ball’s HBO series, True Blood. Even the peeps that waited for over 3 hours outside the Ballroom were not able to get in. Diehard True Blood fans suffered through preceding morning/afternoon panels just to get a glimpse of their favorite premium cable cast. Was it worth it? Of course it was! However, being a member of the press does have its advantages (insert smile). Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: HBO’s True Blood’
