I’m definitely going to be picking this title up. I have not seen this one in quite sometime, but I remember truly liking it back in the day. Like who could ever not like a David Fincher film? I know! Well anyway… Yesterday, Warner Home Video announced the Blu-ray edition of New Line’s Seven (also known as Se7en) for a September 14th release date. The Blu-ray will arrive in the DigiBook format, complete with a 32-page booklet containing photos on the making of the movie and much more. What can be more indicative of a romantic comedy than the title of Valentine’s Day? Sure it’s sappy, and sure it’s formulaic as hell, but I just can’t shake the minority feeling that when I say compared to the handful of lackluster films I have seen theatrically these first five months of 2010, Valentine’s Day was one of the better ones. Many will argue, and I welcome the discussion below, but rest assured, I’m pretty confident that by December of this year Valentine’s Day will be far removed on my list of memorable 2010 films. If anything, 2010 will be remembered as the year Hollywood made its (arguably) strongest push to make three-dimensional films part of the constant mainstream. The concept took audiences by storm in the 1950’s, though it proved to be nothing more than a fad associated with C-grade sci-fi films. It was something to take a date to, but seemed to offer little staying power. Continue reading ‘The Rise and Fall (and Rise?) of 3D’

Believe it or not, Steven Seagal used to be a badass. I remember in junior high and high school me and my friends would geek out and hypothesize who would win a fight between Steven Seagal and Jean Claude-Van Damme. I always picked Steven Seagal, because he was one of the few martial artists that seemed to not exert himself when breaking bones. Van Damme would get his ass kicked, but always came back in the end. The Marvel universe has seen some tumultuous times in recent years, which have spurned book sales to atmospheric levels. Our heroes have been revealed, kidnapped, and nearly killed. The Siege was ground-breaking, literally, and has come to a monumental conclusion. With Norman Osborne falling from his plateau of power and the (Dark) Avengers rounded up, a team of old is about to begin anew. Continue reading ‘The Avengers Return’

This film actually snuck up on me in the not so distant past. I wasn’t even aware work had wrapped up on a new Robin Hood story, let alone through the direction of the great Ridley Scott. Well here we are in the third weekend in May and Robin Hood has arrived. Starring the controversial Russell Crowe (at least that’s the way the media has portrayed him), we find ourselves going back to 12th century England where the good old English are still butting heads with the French and corruption is in good supply. After many, MANY various adaptations of the same story, Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien) has directed a re-visioning of the classic tale of Robin Hood, with an all star cast including Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow. Many people say it looks just like another Gladiator, but my review will tell you why the trailers are completely misleading… as usual. Check it out! Before anyone goes bad mouthing this comedy I just wanted to go on record by saying it wasn’t that bad. I think Death at a Funeral had me laughing harder than this one did, but considering what we have to work with so far this year, Cop Out stands out amongst the best of the comedy genre selections in 2010 (see my full review here), IMO of course. Well with that being said, Warner Home Video has announced a July 20th Blu-ray release date for Cop Out: Rock Out With Your Glock Out Edition. I thought this was a pretty cool article/press release I received from my friends over at Spike TV and I thought it would fit in nicely here on the site and maybe…just maybe…it would even provoke a little bit of conversation/debate on the subject. Who needs another Hollywood super hero sequel when there are so many superheroes out there who deserve a chance on the big screen? Check out Geoff Shakespeare’s entertaining article below. I hope you have fun with it. I did! Continue reading ’10 Coolest Comic Book Heroes Who Need A Movie’

Since we just posted a Blu-ray review of the title (here), I figured it was my civil duty to announce that Paramount Home Entertainment will be issuing a recall of the Saving Private Ryan Sapphire Series Blu-ray disc. Special thanks to our writer Sean Ferguson for sending me the press release. All the information you need to act upon is provided in the press release below. The replacement product will be made available Tuesday, May 18th. Continue reading ‘Paramount Recalling ‘Saving Private Ryan’ Blu-ray’

When Elektra, a spin-off from 2003’s Daredevil, was first announced so many years ago my heart filled with overwhelming anticipation. Back then; I guess you could say I had a small crush on Jennifer Garner. She was, after all, in prime physical form for her hit TV series Alias, not to mention that sexy vixen outfit that adorned her promiscuous curves opposite Ben Affleck in 2003’s Daredevil. So I guess you could say that I was looking forward to seeing her fill that uniform once again and kick some ninja clan a$$. Continue reading ‘Elektra: Director’s Cut (Blu-ray Review)’

Our love for the Starz show Spartacus: Blood and Sand knows no boundaries around here. So it comes with great enthusiasm that I share with you all the latest press release I just received from the Starz network. I’m so excited about this news that I don’t even know where to begin, but I’ll try my best. Production on a six-part prequel will begin this summer. The prequel will feature Andy Whitfield appearing in two episodes along with Lucy Lawless, John Hannah, Peter Mensah plus other returning and new characters. Continue reading ‘JUST ANNOUNCED! In late July of 1998, the greatest war film of all time was released in theaters. Of course, a statement like that is filled with opinion, but in all honesty, is there truly a more gripping, more accurate war film than Saving Private Ryan? Arguments can be made for different represented eras, such as great films like Gettysburg and Full Metal Jacket, though the research, training, and authenticity that went into Spielberg’s World War II story was mind-blowing and likely unparalleled. Dr. Heiter (Dieter Laser) is a retired German surgeon who used to specialize in separating Siamese twins. But retirement can get boring, so it’s good to have a hobby. Dr. Heiter’s hobby is trying to surgically connect three people together, mouth to anus. Why would anyone want to do this? I don’t know. Why were Bela Lugosi and George Zucco always trying to transplant human brains into the bodies of gorillas in those poverty row horror flicks from the thirties? Continue reading ‘The Human Centipede’

In 2008, Iron Man was released to an audience that wasn’t very familiar with the character and with a lead actor that had a history of personal demons that never allowed him to achieve the success his talent deserved. It turned out to be an explosive combination that raked in over $535 million worldwide. By taking the risk of giving Downey Jr. the role of a lifetime in Tony Stark, Director Jon Favreau pulled off a an amazing success story for both the movie and for Downey Jr. personally. Robert Downey Jr. returns as the now considerably more famous Tony Stark, in the sequel to the movie that made Iron Man more popular then he had ever been before. This action adventure boasts a terrific cast including Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Samuel L. Jackson. It is directed by Jon Favreau. Alexx Calise spent her childhood, like most great artists, buried alone in the pages of a notebook and finding comfort in her parents’ diverse and influential record collection. Around age 11, she showed her first sign of musical brilliance as she picked up a guitar and instantly began formulating melodies with the poetry she had already written in her head. Here’s where we usually say “..and the rest is history.” But wait! Not so fast! Continue reading ‘Alexx Calise – In Avanti (CD Review)’

It seems like only yesterday when I reported the speculation that the Rambo Extended Cut Blu-ray would be coming soon. I never knew I would be reporting this so quick, but Lionsgate Home Entertainment has just announced a July 27th release date. The extended cut will feature 9 minutes of extra footage and nearly 90 minutes of newly created bonus materials. Sylvester Stallone fans around the world…REJOICE!
