Our love and admiration for Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures is no secret here on Why So Blu (see our other stories here, here and here). After all, any friend of Rob Zombie is a friend of ours. Last week, we broke a very exciting and insightful interview here on the site with Captain Clegg’s go go dancer Mistress Clegg (see here). So why would we depart from the Clegg train now? The answer is we WON’T. Continue reading ‘Adventures of Captain Clegg & The Night Creatures’

Don’t let the movie’s name deceive you. If you are looking for a wild romping good time this weekend with no brain power required, then look no further than your local cinema to check out Dark Castle’s adaptation of the Vertigo and DC Comics comic book series of the same name, The Losers. The film features very improbable and intense action sequences, frequent comedic relief moments, the sensuality of the beautiful Zoe Saldana and a very funny villain. Continue reading ‘The Losers are Really Winners IMO’

District 13: Ultimatum is the sequel to the French film District B13. I’d wager they dropped the “B” from this film, because of that “other” film involving aliens in South Africa. In my opinion, District B13 was the first film to truly bring the urban Parkour style to the main stream. Who do we have to thank for all of this? None other than the hardest-working man in France: Luc Besson. Luc wrote and produced it. He did that with the first one as well. Continue reading ‘Disctrict 13: Ultimatum (Blu-ray Review)’

I’m sorry. I could not help myself. Ever since I saw Clash of the Titans, the only actress I have had on my mind is Gemma Arterton. I probably don’t even have to tell you why, but just in case, check out her photo below. She’s the only reason why I want to see The Prince of Persia. Sony Pictures Classics has chosen Facebook to debut Gemma’s first image as the title character in the upcoming romantic comedy Tamara Drewe. I’m not much of a reader. I probably only read about one piece of fiction during any given calendar year. I know. It’s sad, especially coming from a guy who calls himself a writer. It’s not that I hate reading, but I’m usually too busy juggling so many projects and efforts that I simply don’t have the time to commit to a full blown epic-sized novel. However, that all changed the minute I heard about Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Continue reading ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Review)’

The 1980’s were definitely a memorable time. After all, that was my childhood. While I may not have grasped the full meaning of films like The Breakfast Club or Fast Times at Ridgemont High when they came out in theaters, I was definitely onboard with others such as Gremlins and Ghostbusters. These films may not have been Oscar-worthy, but they all staked their claim in the hearts and minds of an entire generation and their success at the box office didn’t hurt either. This one was announced a few days back, but I wanted to get this out for all the Depp fans out there. While I did not get a chance to catch Alice in Wonderland theatrically two of our reviewers did. You can see their reviews here and here. So without further ado I wanted to let you all know that Disney has announced a June 1st release date for the Blu-ray debut of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Oni. Rakshasa. Yautjas. The highly intelligent alien race that has been visiting our planet for eons is known best as the Predator. Ever since their film debut alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987, the space-travelling bipeds have achieved success in film, novels and comic books. I’ve made no secret that Dark Horse’s Predator storylines are what drew me into comic book collecting back in the early 1990’s. It was Predator: Race War that became my first exposure into the print foray of the dreaded hunters. Continue reading ‘Top 10 Predator Comics of All Time’

There hasn’t been much promotion for John Cusack’s latest work, Hot Tub Time Machine. If you are expecting an incredibly ludicrous premise for this film based on that title, then your expectations will be met. The story focuses on four guys; Adam (John Cusack), Nick (Craig Robinson), Lou (Rob Corddry), and Adam’s nephew, Jacob (Clark Duke). After Lou nearly does himself in after a night of drinking, on-again off-again friends Adam and Nick decide to take Lou to an old alpine lodge where the trio used to live up their younger days. Every once in a blue moon you come across some unlikely artistic pairing that just makes you wonder how the two ended up together. The funny thing is, these odd combinations can somehow come together and pull it off. Call it fate, call it the planets being in alignment, or just call it two different forms of talent gelling with one another. There was Nelly and Tim McGraw, Def Leppard and Taylor Swift, but how about the 1960’s flavor of go-go dancing and the smooth sound of rockabilly? …for the most part, but we’ll get to that in a moment. Spawned originally from writer Mark Millar and Marvel artist John Romita Jr., Kick-Ass made its presence known to the mainstream as a comic book in February of 2008. Going under the label of Icon Comics, Kick-Ass secured a cult-following to a loyal fanbase, though it hadn’t yet reached a level of grand success. Somehow, somewhere along the line, someone picked up on the concept and said, “Hey, let’s make this a movie.” Can you say ‘gamble’? Continue reading ‘Kick-Ass Lives Up To Its Name’

I went into Wednesday night’s screening of Death at a Funeral with a bad attitude. My day was lackluster. It was one of those days you just simply eek through life and would rather forget. So long story short, I went into the preview screening already expecting to hate it. That’s always a bad thing in my world, but in the film critic business, the results can vary. How you ask? Let’s put it this way. What if you were forced to watch something against your will and you ultimately end up liking it? Ordinarily, that’s a good thing. I’m on a roll! In one of my last reviews I mentioned that there were certain films I had no desire to see in my entire life. The Pink Panther 2 was one of those films. You gotta do what you gotta do. In my defense, I love the animated series, considering it’s now an almost 50 year show. Them, going live action with it made me cringe, but lessened somewhat when seeing that Steve Martin actually contributed to the screenplay. I like Steve Martin’s writing. Anyways, enough bantering, let’s get to the review. Continue reading ‘The Pink Panther 2 (Blu-ray Review)’

After seeing the trailer for Night at the Museum in theaters a few years ago, I said to myself, “wow, this looks completely, and utterly unwatchable.” I was prepared to go my whole life without giving this film a chance. Then of course, I became a film reviewer, and I had to play the part of the objective (non-judgmental) reviewer. The opportunity presented itself, and I would have to put aside my preconceived notions about films that look like garbage. Continue reading ‘Night at the Museum (Blu-ray Review)’

There is one reason why The Thomas Crown Affair will always be a bit memorable to me. It was the very first dvd I ever bought, soon followed by Metallica’s Cunning Stunts and an eventual library that is now dwarfed by my ever-growing Blu-ray collection. Okay, so that’s some knowledge few probably care about so let’s get down to it. Another reason why this film is memorable is because it’s just so darn clever and simply entertaining.
