Well, once again there’s not too much to report on today in the world of Blu-ray. The only thing I learned about is the availability of an X-Men Origins: Wolverine Best Buy Exlusive Blu-ray Gift Set. It will be released at Best Buy on Wolverine‘s street date of September 15th. In other news, there is word of a sequel to Hancock being made official now. I’m generally not a fan of these teenage horror movies, but I have to admit that the film trailer’s plot really intrigued me. After seeing the trailer a record breaking four times before each of my Hangover viewings I really was down with the way it set up the movie on how the initial tragedy within Sorority Row had happened. Today was another light day in Blu-ray news. Although I only have one announcement to make it really seems like 14. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has officially announced their Blu-ray Diamond Collection, which consists of 14 of their most cherished timeless classics on the Blu-ray format. The October 6th Snow White release will be the first one slated as part of the Diamond Collection. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…September 10, 2009’

French playwright Jean Giraudoux once said, “Only the mediocre are always at their best.” And so is the case of Shane Acker’s new film, “9.” I’m not going to give much away so don’t worry about spoilers. However, once you’ve hit the 30-minute mark in the film, you pretty much get the idea of what will happen next. Continue reading ‘9 Sends Gregg Into Coma’

I have to admit that my initial interest in 9 was based solely upon the first preview that was touted to me in the theater not so long ago. The driving music, in the trailer, was the force that lit the wick on my inspirational candle, within my brain, to think that maybe this could be a good film. I really should stop figuratively judging a book by its cover, but I could not help it. What’s a boy to do? Continue reading ‘Brian Counts To 9!’

I think the biggest news of the day is also the saddest news of the day. New Line/Warner has seemingly delayed The Lord of the Rings Trilogy for Blu-ray. Originally scheduled for November 3rd, it looks like fans might have a long wait into 2010. That sucks! Hopefully they will reconsider and put out the Director Cuts too! Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…September 9, 2009’

Due to our flight being cancelled going out to Comic-Con, this past July, I missed out on an opportunity to meet and interview the Orphan‘s writer David Johnson. You can’t even imagine how bummed I was. Next, I missed out on seeing this movie in the theaters and all the patrons I know who went and saw the Orphan had nothing but praise for it. Continue reading ‘Blu-ray’s Orphan Halloween Surprise!’

It’s been a quiet Tuesday for Blu-ray news, although it sure seemed like a Monday to me. Anyway, I just have a couple tidbits of information to share. Sony has finally nailed down another date for the Blu-ray release of Sex, Lies and Videotape. The rescheduled date has the Blu-ray landing on November 17th. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…September 8, 2009’

The Inglorious Basterds. Ah, Mr. Tarantino likes to use shock value not only in his films, but also in his films’ titles. I have to be honest. Before I saw this movie and people asked me what it was like (which is a bit odd considering they knew I hadn’t seen the movie at the time), I would tell them that it’s probably typical tongue-in-cheek Tarantino humor with some exaggerated violence. Behold, Robert Langdon fans. Following on the heels of Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code, viewers can experience the next chapter of the story in Angels & Demons, which will arrive on Blu-ray Novemeber 24th. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Robert Langdon and is joined by a very talented cast which includes the likes of Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer. Jason Statham is back meaner, crazier and badder than ever as the beloved Chev Chelios in Lionsgate’s Crank 2 High Voltage and Brian White got the opportunity to screen the Blu-ray release early as he shares his thoughts over at Into The Blu. There’s no denying that 2007’s Crank became Blu-ray’s early flagship title, with pristine video and audio, and Crank 2 boldly matches the success of its predecessor in so many ways. This past summer, dusk arrived a little early in the DC Comics universe. The Blackest Night storyline finally made its debut and it did not disappoint. More than your typical sub-plot for existing storylines, Blackest Night is an 8-part series (issues 1 & 2 are already out) with two other mini-series taking place at the same time; Blackest Night: Batman and Blackest Night: Superman; both being 3-issue series. There is absolutely no Blu-ray release news to talk about or promote today. Aint that a stinker! All we have is a rumor from a story that was posted over on What Would Tyler Durden Do today. So the story goes, The Sun UK is reporting that Gia, the HBO movie starring Angelina Jolie as 1970’s supermodel Gia Carangi, is being remastered for an HD release. In an email received a few days ago, we learned that Lionsgate Home Entertainment is proud to announce the Blu-ray releases of three classic thrillers Angel Heart, Frality and Way of the Gun, three classic horror films Cujo: 25th Anniversary Edition, The Monster Squad: 20th Anniversary Edition and My Bloody Valentine: Special Edition and two classic action films Air America and New Police Story, all arriving November 24th. I know what you are thinking. It’s September 4th, not September 3rd. Unfortunately, I have been away from a computer all day long so I am just getting a chance to round up all the Blu-ray news now. Let’s see. Where should I start? Let’s start with New Line Home Entertainment. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…September 3, 2009’

There’s not too much going on in the world of Blu-ray today. Besides the press release I received from Fox today detailing the October 27th Blu-ray release of Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs, all I have is one other Blu-ray release to mention. Starz/Anchor Bay has announced plans to bring the thriller Not Forgotten to Blu-ray on November 3rd with a 1080P video presentation and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround soundtrack. I am sorry for the lateness in getting this post up. Today I have two quick Blu-ray pieces of news to share with you and one movie related. First up, Sony has announced plans to release Easy Rider, which stars Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson, on Blu-ray October 20th. Continue reading ‘The Daily Blu…September 1, 2009’
