As a writer, Shane Black made a name for himself by scripting many successful mismatched buddy movies. Over time and after stepping into the director’s chair, Black has more evidently become a master of going against what’s expected to the tune of comedic and often times violent irony. The Nice Guys is a perfect embodiment of what we have come to expect from him and it only helps that this comedic caper is plenty clever and entertaining in weaving its silly detective tale. Sadly, the film did not catch on as strong at the box office as it did critically, but you can now seek the film out on Blu-ray.

Maggie’s Plan is a modern screwball romantic comedy that deals with another neurotic Greta Gerwig character. Gerwig is the central character of the film and this comedy directed and written by Rebecca Miller certainly wants you to invest in her. It plays as a film about intellectuals, but does nothing but show how incapable these people are at being great at relationships. That said it features a terrific supporting cast including Ethan Hawke, Julianne Moore, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph and Travis Fimmel. Now the film is on Blu-ray for people curious about this plan of Maggie’s.

Anchor Bay Entertainment is proud to present another season of The Walking Dead on Blu-ray. The hit zombie-drama series has been previously reviewed by Why So Blu’s Brian White (seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), but he has handed the duty over to me this time around. Fortunately for me, season six offered plenty of big shakeups for the series, complete with big twists, cliffhangers, controversy and at least one of the series’ best episodes. Now you can dig in to see just how well this Blu-ray set stacks up.

Oh yeah! You can almost hear the fire-breathing front man, Gene “The Demon” Simmons, scream watch this once-in-a-lifetime event on the Blu-ray format. And who am I to argue with his wisdom? I’m a nobody in regards to Mr. Simmons, but one thing you can’t question is my undying discipleship to the legendary, finally in the Rock Hall of Fame, rock band KISS. They have been like a religion in my life and my coverage of certain KISS related events here, here and here are a testament to my love and affinity to the four guys despite all the lineup shakeups over the year making them a resilient and indestructible force of nature). And the following Blu-ray review here is no exception to the matter. However, I am sad I missed out on all of this in 2014. I was really hoping that KISS would of brought their residency back to The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, but wish in one hand and you know what in the other. Even though I missed it all, I have to look on the bright side of things. I have one hell of a rock and roll souvenir now with Eagle Rock Entertainment’s KISS Rocks Vegas on Blu-ray. From Drafthouse Films and MVD Entertainment comes the release of Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on August 16th. After Steven Spielberg’s classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film. Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece in what IGN has dubbed “the Boyhood of fan movies.” Featuring interviews with John Rhys-Davies, Eli Roth and more, Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made is a critically acclaimed documentary from filmmakers Tim Skousen & Jeremy Coon. Special features include more than four hours of bonus content such as dual audio commentary tracks (with Skousen & Coon, as well as film subjects Chris Strompolos & Eric Zala), deleted scenes from the documentary, outtakes from the Adaptation, Q&A footage from the Adaptation’s 2003 premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX, a photo booklet featuring storyboard art from the Adaptation and a free HD digital copy of the film.

Who out there was a fan of Snow White and the Huntsman? I have to admit, I initially was going into the theatrical screening. It looked dark and broody and I was looking forward to seeing Charlize Theron as the evil queen of the famous fairy tale “Snow White.” However, I just don’t know. In the end, I just could not embrace Kristen Stewart in the role of Snow White, but I digress. There were more issues in that film than just Kristen. So when word broke that there would be a second film, which serves as both a prequel and a sequel to the aforementioned title, and best of all not involve Stewart, I thought win-win. However, my rejoice was short-lived when the reviews for The Huntsman: Winter’s War starting pouring in like this one from our Aaron Neuwirth here. Can you say ouch?
