The Angry Birds Movie is not something I woke up on Friday thinking wow I can’t wait to watch this one in 4K Blu-ray. No way! I came home from a hard day of work and found the latest Blu-ray care package on my doorstep that day. I immediately proceeded to rip the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment package open. I knew I was receiving The Angry Birds Movie for my reviewer, Brandon Peters, but what I didn’t know was that it was the 4K Blu-ray Combo Pack that pretty much contains everything under the kitchen sink. I’m not kidding you about that. I’ll talk a little more about everything you’ll find within here down below in the Extras section. Continue reading ‘The Angry Birds Movie (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)’

Lucy was one of those in-home viewing experiences you can’t take back. It was a religious experience, one of the best of my life. After being slightly disappointed by the quality of my sci-fi fave Oblivion on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (review here) and the story in The Huntsman: Winter’s War (4K review forthcoming) I thought Universal was a lost cause with their first-ever 4K Blu-ray offerings. They were 0 for 2 in my book going into tonight. I was almost ready to give up hope until Lucy came along. I wasn’t instantly a huge fan of the 2014 feature, but over the past couple years I have fondly come to enjoy it. However, that all changed tonight. I now L-O-V-E it! Lucy was the much-needed 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray viewing experience I have been waiting for. It W-O-W-ed me like none other, but I digress. I’m getting ahead of myself here. Oblivion is one of those extra special theatrical experiences that I’ll never forget in life. I owe it all to Aaron Neuwirth. The year was 2013 and my significant other and I had just moved down to Austin, TX from Cleveland, OH. This was before Cleveland was a championship town. We were both lost down here like deer in headlights. A learning opportunity put me in the close vicinity of staff writer Aaron Neuwirth for a week. He took me in that Sunday evening for Game of Thrones and even bought a roast beef sub to keep my stomach occupied. The very next day is when the magic happened. I forget what we had planned to do, but Aaron texted me and said do you want to see Oblivion. Back then I wasn’t much of a Tom Cruise fan, but I do like a good science fiction feature. Plus I was in posh California. Why would I say no? So I accepted his invitation. Surely it wasn’t just so he could justify riding in the carpool lane the entire way there. I’m kidding! Ha ha. When you learn of a film with a premise as bizarre as The Lobster, there has to be hope it can really work. Oscar-nominee Yorgos Lanthimos has taken the offbeat sensibilities that helped his film Dogtooth catch on and applied it to his first English-language feature, which involves people either finding love or being turned into animals. The results are wickedly entertaining, as The Lobster manages to push forward a satirical look at a society forced into a ridiculous existential nightmare. Now the film is on Blu-ray for anyone looking for an offbeat romantic comedy (to say the least) to enjoy.
