Pet, from the promotional material available to filmgoers, appears to be a suspense or maybe even a horror film about a man who traps a woman in a metal cage where one is left to assume that the twists and turns either lead to her death or her escape. While there is definitely a story of a man trapping a woman in a cage and questions about whether she will escape, it would be reductive to think of Pet as something simple. What the audience gets when viewing the film is a deep, dark exploration of the transformative power of love and the lengths a person will go to seek the good in another. I imagine The Greasy Strangler to be the product of teens who have watched too many Tim & Eric episodes and discussed what a horror film would look like with their sensibilities. There’s about four jokes which are repeated endlessly throughout the film, which would make for (maybe) a decent short film, but at 80 minutes, I was begging for the film to just end. I don’t think I’ve ever exited a film so fast in my life.

The Lionsgate Panel truly delivered when it came to Hunger Games Mocking Jay Part 2. The panel started with four men in white military style suits banging on drums very dramatically. They started to filter down the aisles and the hall filled with loud rhythmic drumming that started as soon as it stopped and Hall H went black. A small message hit the screen saying,”Stand by for a message from District Thirteen.” The crowd which was deathly quiet started to tingle and cheers started to erupt. The Drumming that was previously playing blared through speakers and the crowd was ecstatic!

It’s that time of the year. What a glorious time it is! The excitement’s practically in the air! Can you smell it yet? The spotlight is once again on one of the most beautiful cities in the United States, San Diego, CA! How sweet it is! Movie stars, comic artists, cosplay, vendors, movie studios, exclusives and so much more all vying for your attention and awaiting you for five mind blowing days! I have been going to Comic-Con ever since 2009 and each year it keeps getting bigger and better. However, that doesn’t mean it gets less chaotic at all, quite the contrary. Every year it seems more crowded and packed, and if you want to see anything in Hall H, at least Thursday through Saturday, be prepared to camp out overnight. For these reasons and more I put together some tips below culled from my personal experiences that will hopefully get fellow Con goers this year the maximum bang for their buck. Good luck! WonderCon is here and while the high profile slate seems a lot lighter than normal (too many cons these days I suppose), there are still some worthwhile panels this year. One of them was for the upcoming Fox miniseries Wayward Pines. If you have been wondering where Wayward Pines is, don’t worry, so have I. The show screened its pilot episode at Comic-con last year, but has been MIA ever since. Now we know this M. Night Shyamalan mystery series will be premiering in May, which is good, because based on the pilot episode, there is a lot of promise here.
