‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Trailer Debuts

x-men poster-thumbLast week saw the debut of the trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  This week is all about X-Men: Days of Future Past, the latest mutant adventure, which will be based around one of the most iconic stories from X-Men comic series.  The most intriguing part of all of this is how this film will be utilizing actors from practically every X-Men film made so far.  It makes sense from a story standpoint, for those familiar with the comic, but I can only hope it does not hurt the film, given that the biggest issue has always been the hefty number of characters in each film and finding the right balance.  That said, this trailer has done a very convincing job of making me worry less.  Sure the enthusiasm I took from San Diego Comic Con was a good way to get me more on board, let alone teaser images of Sentinels, but I am quite excited all around for the release of this new X-Men film, in May 2014.  Continue on to view the trailer as well as a load of images from the film.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Trailer Debuts

captain america 2 whysoblu poster-001With Iron Man 3 sitting as the highest grossing film of the year and Thor: The Dark World just around the corner and building some great buzz, Marvel’s Phase 2 is certainly off an running.  Now we have the first trailer for Captain America:  The Winter Soldier, which looks to be just as exciting and in line with the other fun that Marvel Studios has offered up in recent years.  Based on this trailer and the footage screened at San Diego Comic Con this past summer, the film certainly seems to be keeping in step with what comes next, following the events of The Avengers, while also creating its own identity.  If The First Avenger was a pulpy, throwback superhero film, mixed with some war movie aesthetics, The Winter Soldier has more of an espionage-themed vibe, mixed with some pretty large-scale action.  Regardless, as fellow Why So Blu writers Sean Ferguson, Brandon Peters, and I were big fans of Cap’s first outing, this next adventure can’t come soon enough.  Check out the rest of this post to view the trailer, along with some posters and images from the film.

‘The Rooftop’ on Blu-ray and DVD December 10th!

The Rooftop - www.whysoblu.comTaiwanese pop sensation Jay Chou (The Green Hornet, The Viral Factor), drawing on his years as an actor, director, and recording star, creates a fantasy playground of music, moves, and magic as a backdrop to an action comedy which pays homage to the wondrous musicals of the past, while exploding to life with today’s sound and spirit in THE ROOFTOP, debuting on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital December 10th from Well Go USA Entertainment. Described as “Writer-director Chou’s ambitious Luhrmann-esque merging of musical numbers, kung fu, vaudeville and dippy romance is set in a candy-colored world with a deliberately retro vibe. (Think afros, polyester, vintage cars and bowling.)” by The Los Angeles Times, Chou composed 11 original tunes for this buoyant musical.  In addition to Chou, THE ROOFTOP stars Alan Ko (Goodbye May), Eric Tsang (Ip Man: The Final Fight), Wang Xue Qi (Iron Man 3, Reign of Assassins), Fan Xu (Saving General Yang, Back to 1942), and newcomer Hsin Ai Lee.  Continue reading ‘‘The Rooftop’ on Blu-ray and DVD December 10th!’

‘ALL IS BRIGHT’ With Rudd And Giamatti This November On Blu-ray

All_Is_Bright_BD-001I’m sure it has to do with the actors, but I am quite intrigued by this movie.  As a fan of movies like Bad Santa or even The Ice Harvest, something about a dark, off-beat comedy, set during the holiday season tends to bring a smile to my face.  It doesn’t hurt that the teaming of Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti sounds pretty good to me.  All is Bright is the name of this film and it will be making its way to Blu-ray on November 19th.  It is currently available via On Demand now as well.  Regardless, this looks like an interesting film about some small time crooks looking to make some money in the Christmas Tree game. Maybe they will pull it off, but find out more about this Blu-ray release in the rest of this post.

Treme: The Complete Third Season Comes to Blu-ray November 19th!

tremeTwo years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Crescent City, crime and corruption are on the rise, and outsiders with their own agendas are starting to pour money into the city. In the third season of the critically-acclaimed HBO series Treme, the ordinary people of New Orleans must band together to demand that their music, art and well-being be protected against opposing institutions. For the people of New Orleans, even the promises of redevelopment come with strings attached, and every dollar that shows up – whether from government disaster relief, or from venture capital, or even from those seeking to remake New Orleans in the wake of Katrina – carries with it new dynamics and new risks. National interest has waned, moving on to the next headline, but those who know and love the Crescent City have no choice. They must find their way back to what matters in the life of their city. However, little of what they can bring to bear yields a quick result, and nothing about New Orleans – its government, its police department and courtroom, its school system – works as it should. Nothing is easy. Continue reading ‘Treme: The Complete Third Season Comes to Blu-ray November 19th!’

Steven Seagal, Ving Rhames & Danny Trejo Are A FORCE OF EXECUTION!

Force-Of-ExecutionAnchor Bay Films is bringing an all new action film pitting together Steven Seagal, Ving Rhames and Danny Trejo on December 17th.  This synopsis sounds all sorts of crazy.  Seagal is playing an old school mob boss and Danny Trejo the leader of a cartel.  The film seems like its going to follow martial arts superstar Bren Foster however.  I’m kinda hoping this film isn’t super serious, and goes all out to be as crazy as it possibly can.  Its probably really low budget and playing stuff very pulpy and over the top may just be the best way to go.  And if Seagal can ham and mug it up, even better.  More in depth details follow below. Lethal Ladies of Horror Triple Feature in LA on October 17th

Artwork page 2-001I should start by noting this is a location-specific event, as this awesome-looking horror event will be taking place at the Historic Regency Village Theater, in Los Angeles.  With that out of the way, this upcoming event is a themed horror marathon, the “Lethal Ladies of Horror”, featuring the films Night of the Comet, Christine, and the upcoming remake of Carrie.  This event is being brought to audiences by the same folks involved in putting together the “Evil Dead Fest” earlier this year, which screened all four Evil Dead films and was a ton of fun.  This means the films will have a lot of additional fun going on in between films and within the theater lobby as well, which includes Q&As with cast and crew from the films, prize giveaways, props from the film (such as a very specific car) and more!  I’ll note right now that I’ll be posting an interview from two of the stars of one of these films in the very near future, but for now, continue on to learn more about this exciting, upcoming event.  IMPORTANT UPDATE: This event has been cancelled.

BIG’s Wish Is Granted – 25th Anniversary Edition arrives on Blu-ray DVD Combo Pack This December

img1Given that Tom Hanks has a couple films coming out this fall, might as well put out one of his classics as well, so here we have the 25th Anniversary edition of Big on Blu-ray.  Big is one of those films that I love to watch, whenever I see it on somewhere.  It features a wonderful performance from Tom Hanks in the best of the bunch, as far as 80s ‘body-switching’ comedies are concerned (Always weird to know that was a big thing for that decade).  Big feels like one of those movies that almost anyone can enjoy in some way, even if they don’t love it, because the movie hits all the beats in just the right way to be a crowd-pleaser.  Learn more about this new Blu-ray release by continuing on.

The Exorcist – 40th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray Review)

The-ExorcistI’ve been spoiled here lately at Why So Blu?  I’ve gotten to cover and write about all the Friday the 13th movies, Norman Bates, Halloween, Romero Zombies and John Carpenter films.  Now, oh…nothing real big, just THE FREAKIN’ EXORCIST!  Warner Bros is putting out another edition of one of horror’s greatest achievements and a masterpiece in filmmaking in time to celebrate its 40th anniversary.  Didn’t they just release something more than substantial not too long ago?  Yes.  What more could they have done to make this a “must have” release.  Well, sadly, the answer to that question is “not much”.  There was word from William Friedkin himself that there would be a new transfer of the film for an upcoming Blu-ray release that he said was even better than the amazing one already available.  However, this release does not carry said transfer.  It’s the exact same two discs they’ve given us before with new packaging.  If you read on, I’ll explain.
