‘One Hour Photo’ Develops Onto Blu This May

I remember checking out One Hour Photo in theaters and being genuinely creeped out.  Robin Williams was fantastically creepy as a man who takes things too far, as his obsession with a very photogenic family turns deadly.  Williams and the film in general received its share of praise, but director Mark Romaneck has not been given nearly enough to do since.  Regardless, One Hour Photo makes its debut onto Blu-ray on May 7th.  Additionally, the disc is packed with all new special features.  I know I am excited to check out this film again.  Continue on the find out all that will be included on this Blu-ray disc.

Sink Your Teeth Into True Blood:The Complete Fifth Season On Blu-ray!

I actually fell off the True Blood band wagon early last June.  After being a devoted fan for 4 seasons I kind of felt let down by the weak fairy story lines, but I’m willing to give it another chance.  I’m willing to extend the olive branch and see what I missed out on.  All this and more will be mine come this coming May 21st when my Blu-ray wish is finally granted (now if I could just get a good deal on Season 4…lol).  Check out the full press release below from HBO Home Entertainment and feed your thirst for blood by pre-ordering Season 5 today! This April Do ‘That Thing You Do’ On Blu

Well it’s about time!  As much as I like getting to see big blockbusters on Blu-ray for their awesome sound and video quality, and as much as I like to see old classics get their restored treatment on Blu-ray, there are still a good number of more modern films that have yet to make their way to Blu-ray, which I have been really excited to finally own in hi-def.  That Thing You Do is one of those films.  This delightful 90s comedy was the first theatrical film to be directed by Tom Hanks and it is a lot of fun.  It is the fictional story of a pop band from the 60s that blew up big with their hit song, “That Thing You Do,” and the film follows their journey into stardom.  On April 2nd, everyone will finally have the chance to own the film on Blu-ray, which also features the 40-minute longer extended cut of the film, along with many more extras.  Read on further to find out more about this upcoming release.

‘Jack Reacher’ on Blu-ray May 7th!

One of the most compelling heroes ever to step from novel to screen makes his highly-anticipated home entertainment debut when JACK REACHER blasts his way onto Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand on May 7, 2013 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.  The film will be available for Digital Download on April 23rd.  Tom Cruise tackles the title role with the brute force his character is known for and his “tightly controlled performance holds our attention all the way through to the tense finale” (Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News).  Based on best-selling author Lee Child’s wildly popular series of novels, JACK REACHER was adapted for the screen and directed by Academy Award®-winner Christopher McQuarrie (Best Original Screenplay, The Usual Suspects, 1995).  Filled with heart-pounding action, thrills and a “killer chase scene” (Chris Vognar, Dallas Morning News), JACK REACHER is “hard-boiled detective story entertainment” (Richard Corliss, Time) that “will have you gasping in surprise at the velocity and ferocity of the action” (Marshall Fine, Huffington Post).  The film also boasts “a top flight ensemble cast” (Claudia Puig, USA Today) including Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now), Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day), Werner Herzog (Rescue Dawn), David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods) and Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard).    Continue reading ‘‘Jack Reacher’ on Blu-ray May 7th!’

Iron Man 3 – The Final Theatrical Trailer

Iron Man 3 is getting closer and closer to its May 3rd release date and with all that anticipation bubbling to the surface, here is the latest and final theatrical trailer for the film, which sees Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) facing off against a powerful foe known as the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).  True to form, Marvel Studios is going all out to make this look like one of the action events of the year and I would be hard-pressed to argue against that, given how exciting this film looks to be.  I just hope it is still hope that there is plenty of fun to be had, given Stark’s attitude and chemistry with the rest of the cast, along with knowing writer/director Shane Black’s (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) filmmaking sensibilities.  Continue on to check out the brand new trailer.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D Cuts Into Blu-ray May 14th

I can’t speak for the movie itself as I have not seen it yet, but Lionsgate is doing it justice, IMO, by releasing both the 3D and standard versions in one Blu-ray package PLUS both the UV (who cares about that) and the DIgital Copy too!  Can I get a hallelujah?  Say what you want, the fanboys are still going to buy this one, but unfortunately we have to wait until May 14th to check this out on our format of choice.  Check out the full press release below from Lionsgate.  As of right now, there is no pre-order up yet, but don’t despair.  It’s coming! This April Schwarzenegger is Back and Better Than Ever In ‘The Last Stand’ On Blu-ray

So this past winter has seen the release of action films from a lot of the action starts, old and new.  I did not expect The Last Stand to be the best of the bunch, but given that A Good Day to Die Hard was a huge bust and Stallone couldn’t quite land a Bullet to the Head, Schwarzenegger actually ended up coming out on top.  The Last Stand was an enjoyable, old fashioned action flick, with plenty of style given the direction by Kim Jee-Woon (Review HERE).  Now, everyone who missed it in theaters will get the chance to take home this old, Austrian cowboy in his latest action romp.  The Blu-ray arrives on April 30th and appears to be loaded with some pretty cool extras.  Read on to find out more about this upcoming release.

The Blue Umbrella – The Next Pixar Animated Short

Not a huge development, but something as simple as a poster for a new Pixar animated short caught my eye and it was enough to make me want to post about it.  Many people are quite fond of the animated shorts that always precede the latest Pixar film, as well as the new shorts that tend to be packaged with Pixar and Disney films that serve as a mini spin-off for certain characters.  Why So Blu reviewer Sean Ferguson has actually reviewed the most recent Blu-ray collection of Pixar’s shorts, which can be found HEREThe Blue Umbrella will be the short that precedes Monsters University, which opens in theaters on June 21st.  Continue on to take a look at the poster and catch up with some other recent shorts.

James Bond Partners with Operation Gratitude for “Operation SKYFALL” on February 12

In anticipation for the upcoming release of Skyfall on February 12, I found this press release regarding an upcoming care package initiative to be quite interesting.  Apparently, beginning at 10:00am Feb. 12 at the Army National Guard armory in Van Nuys, California, volunteers including Military families, war Veterans, fans and more will be on hand to assemble up to 7,000 Skyfall branded care packages to be sent to active duty soldiers overseas. The idea is to promote the movie’s Blu-ray release of course, but by way of doing something incredibly nice for the troops.  Continue on to read all the details about this upcoming care package initiative.

‘LIFE OF PI’ Journeys Onto Blu-ray This March

Life of Pi was a film I was really happy to embrace.  This is the story, based off the bestselling novel (claimed to be unfilmable for a long time), which chronicles the journey of Pi, a young boy who is stranded at sea, along with a tiger.  I saw it multiple times in theaters, namely because the 3D experience was among the best I have seen in a theater and wanted to give it a few goes before it left the big screen.  Everyone will soon be able to see the beauty of this film (Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects are practically in the bag), as it arrives on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 12.  Continue on to learn more details about this upcoming release, which is packed with special features.
