In the fishing village of Aci Trezza, Sicily, the Valastro family dream of a better life. Living modestly thanks to merciless wholesalers, eldest son Ntoni takes matters into his own hands and – with the help of a bank loan – starts fishing alone. The venture is initially a success but an unexpected shipwreck means the family must soon fend for themselves. Originally commissioned as propaganda by the Communist Party, master filmmaker Luchino Visconti (The Leopard, Death in Venice) used the real villagers of Aci Trezza as his stars to craft a docu-fictional melodrama about the difficulties of rural life post-World War II. La terra trema was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 1948 Venice Film Festival and is considered one of the finest examples of Italian neorealist cinema. Peter Lorre (M, Casablanca) writes, directs and stars in THE LOST ONE (1951), his only film as writer or director. Haunted by a terrible secret, Dr. Karl Rothe’s dark past catches up with him at a displaced persons camp. Described by Ingmar Bergman as “a masterpiece”, director Hasse Ekman’s GIRL WITH HYACINTHS (1950) is regarded as one of the great films of Swedish cinema. STARMAN is a story of romance and adventure, as an alien (Jeff Bridges) observing life on Earth becomes stranded near the Wisconsin farmhouse of recently widowed Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). The alien, otherwise known as Starman, clones the human form of Scott Hayden, Jenny’s deceased husband. Due to be picked up by his mother ship in three days at Meteor Crater, Arizona, Starman is in dire need of human assistance. Thus Jenny becomes an unwilling participant in a trip that becomes a dangerous flight across the U.S. as the two are pursued by the U.S. Army and secretly aided by a government agent (Charles Martin Smith). Over the three-day journey, however, a strange and wonderful relationship develops between a confused human woman and a curious and determined alien, leading to a climactic rendezvous with Starman’s mother ship. Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League takes place immediately after the events of the first film. Upon returning from feudal Japan to present day, Batman discovers that historical changes have caused an upheaval in the present. Japan has disappeared from the world map and a huge island called “Hinomoto” appears in the sky over Gotham. Batman and his friends head for Hinomoto to seek the cause of the upheaval. There they find a world where the yakuza rule and where there is no honor.
